It is governed by a five member Board of Commissioners elected to six year terms in biennial public elections. They receive no compensation for attending meetings. The terms of office are staggered so that no more than two Commissioners are elected at one time. The board establishes general policies, adopts the budget and appropriation ordinance, and appoints the District Attorney and Director. Park Board meetings are held on the third Monday of each month at 6:00 p.m. at the Park District Administration Building located at 105 S. Spruce St., Washington, Illinois. For more information, you may contact the Park District. Mission Statement - To provide quality recreational programs, facilities and parks that meet the leisure needs and improve the quality of life for the residents of Washington. Dear Residents, It’s hard to believe that we are already talking about our summer offerings. Our staff has worked hard to put together another brochure that is full of great activities and special events. Be sure to check out the Nitsch Theater Arts Summer program offerings for youth that are interested in performing arts and be sure to put the Back to School Bash scheduled for July 30th on your calendar. We have recently added our first outdoor fitness area in Washington Park near the tennis courts. Stop by and discover the many ways that you can get a workout in while visiting that park. Executive Director We are continuing to work on updates to our comprehensive parks and recreation master Brian Tibbs plan. This plan will help guide our decisions for the next five years and should be completed in the early part of this summer. After 40 years of dedicated service to the Washington Park District, Brad Kanaga will retire from his position of Superintendent of Parks and Property on September 1. We have promoted Jeremy McMenimen to this position and he will be working alongside Brad until his retirement. Be on the lookout for a reception coming later this year. We wish Brad all the best in his well-deserved retirement. Be sure to stay in touch with us on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram. Thank you for your continued participation and support of our programs and parks. Brian Tibbs Ext. 102, [email protected] WashingtonParkDistrict.com • 105 S. Cheer & Tumbling Small Town... BIG Fun! 41 WPD ELITE – Competitive Recreational Cheer & Tumbling TeamsThe Washington Park District now offers programs and opportunities for kids of all ages and levels to get involved in a cheer or tumbling team. These teams compete recreationally in cheer or tumbling competitions through the Illinois Recreational Cheer Association (IRCA) and the Illinois Park District Gymnastics Conference (IPDGC). This provides kids at any age or level who love to tumble or cheer the opportunity to do a little more within the sport and the benefit of being on a team without a huge cost or requiring a big commitment. The ELITE program gives kids the opportunity to be on a team and build self-confidence, strength, coordination, and a sense of accomplishment and team unity. Being a part of the competitive teams can be very challenging but also very rewarding. There is a strong focus on setting and accomplishing goals, and developing higher skill levels. Performing in front of large groups of people and receiving awards gives the kids a sense of pride in their accomplishments. Students are welcome to participate in the cheer teams, tumbling teams or both. WPD ELITE – CHEER Cheer teams will begin forming in July & August.
