Itis governed by a five member Board of Commissioners elected to six year terms in biennial public elections. They receive nocompensation for attending meetings. The terms of office are staggered so that no more than two Commissioners are electedat one time. The board establishes general policies, adopts the budget and appropriation ordinance, and appoints the DistrictAttorney and Director. Park Board meetings are held on the third Monday of each month at 6:00 p.m. at the Park DistrictAdministration Building located at 105 S. Spruce St., Washington, Illinois. Mission Statement - To provide quality recreational programs, facilities and parks that meet the leisure needs and improve the quality of life for the residents of Washington.Dear Residents,We are excited to be celebrating our 50th anniversary in 2018. A big thank you is due tothe current and previous commissioners who helped get us to the point we are at today.This brochure is packed with fun things for all members of your family. Be sure to check outthe many offerings we have included. Summer is also a great time to catch a ball gameat Washington Park, take a walk along the Washington Recreational Trail, take the familyswimming at the Washington Park Pool, or take your dog to the Washington Dog Park. Executive Director This summer, work will continue on the Washington Park parking lot near the ball Brian Tibbsdiamonds, along the Washington Recreational Trail, and to our Recreational Facility onSpruce Street. We will also begin renovation work to the Oak Ridge Park ball diamonds.Over the course of the next few years, it is our intention to make upgrades to all three ball diamonds at theOak Ridge complex. This will be a tremendous asset to our community and our programming.If you are looking for a great volunteer opportunity, be sure to check out the information for the Take Pridein Washington Cleanup Day that will be held Saturday, April 21. This is a great way to give back to our town.Keep an eye out for our upcoming editions of the “Small Town, Big Fun” video series. BIG Fun! • 3Gym Parties at the Washington Park District Preschool Birthday Parties at the Washington Park DistrictBring your special celebration to the Washington Park District Recreation Have the special celebration of your preschooler’sFacility. Washington “Bark” District Small Town... BIG Fun! • 5 The Washington Park District provides various places for residents to enjoythe outdoors and socialize with neighbors. And now part of Meadow ValleyPark has gone to the dogs with the creation of the Washington “Bark”District Off-Leash Dog Park. Through a number of generous donations including fencing from KeystoneWire Red Brand Fencing, Honeywell Turbo Technologies, and Peoria Brick andTile, the Park District has completed construction of the Off-Leash Dog Park.The Washington “Bark” District Off-Leash Dog Park Donations and brick purchases to the Washington “Bark” District may be made payable to the Washington Park DistrictFoundation. Good Neighbor Days Running Events Small Town... BIG Fun! • 7 Washington Park District presents the 2018 Washington Good Neighbor Days 5K Run and1 Mile Fun Run on Saturday, June 2nd at 7:30AM. Thisevent will feature our chip timed 5K and 1Mile races and Kids Fun Runs. These runs are presented by the Uftring Chevrolet-Washington.The race will begin in front of Five Points Washington at 7:30AM. The entry fee for the 5K is $28 through April 29, and $32up until race day. Race day registration is $36. Registration includes an event performance running shirt to every registeredrunner. Packets will be available for pick up on Friday, June 1st from 5:00-7:00pm and Saturday, June 2nd from 6:00-7:00AM atFive Points Washington. Check in and late registration is available at Five Points Washington from 6:00-7:00AM on race day.1 Mile eventThe 1 Mile Fun Run is an event for the entire family, or for those individuals not wanting to compete in the 5K race. Theroute will follow the same path as the 5K event, but just before Dallas Road, the 1Milers will turn into the access road andcomplete an out-and-back course around Central School. The 1Milers will get an official time and use the same finish line asthe 5K participants. Each participant will receive a t-shirt. This event will also start at 7:30am. BIG Fun! • 41WPD ELITE – Competitive Recreational Cheer & Tumbling TeamsThe Washington Park District now offers programs and opportunities for kids of allages and levels to get involved in a cheer or tumbling team. These teams competerecreationally in cheer or tumbling competitions through the Illinois RecreationalCheer Association (IRCA) and the Illinois Park District Gymnastics Conference(IPDGC). This provides kids at any age or level who love to tumble or cheer theopportunity to do a little more within the sport and the benefit of being on a teamwithout a huge cost or requiring a big commitment.The ELITE program gives kids the opportunity to be on a team and build selfconfidence, strength, coordination, a sense of accomplishments and team unity.Being a part of the competitive teams can be very challenging but also veryrewarding. There is a strong focus on setting and accomplishing goals, anddeveloping higher skill levels. Performing in front of large groups of people andreceiving awards gives the kids a sense of pride in their accomplishments. Studentsare welcome to participate in the cheer teams, tumbling teams or both.WPD ELITE – CHEERCheer teams will begin forming in July & August. There may be a few practiceopportunities throughout the summer for those who are already committed andinterested; however, the season will officially begin mid-late August. The fullseason will run August – May.
