EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW Despite the challenges we have all faced in 2020, I didn’t want the year to pass without marking our significant achievement of 40 years in business. Founded by my parents Brian and Iona Gott in 1980, the business has spent 40 years making garage workshops safer, more efficient and more productive. I think that’s something to be proud of and also something we could not have achieved without the support of our staff, customers and suppliers. From fairly humble beginnings in a back bedroom, to our offices in Morpeth, we have grown to meet the needs of the industry throughout. When we started there were no emails, websites or even mobile phones but our mission to provide first class customer service has been ever-present. This was particularly highlighted during the lockdown period when we helped to keep the emergency services, ports and MOD operational with our amazing engineer support. I wanted to share some of our birthday celebrations with you, especially when we can’t do this face to face, by offering some amazing deals, the chance to win a prize in a competition and sharing with you the lighter side of garage workshop life. When our business started in the 1980s epic on screen cars such as the DeLorean in Back to The Future and the sleek KITT Knight Rider were depicted as cars of the future. Whilst we may not be able to achieve time travel in our cars yet, emerging autonomous technology means we may not be the ones in the driving seat much longer. Back in the 80s we still used a manual choke and only One of our customers vehicle workshop, 1980s had 4 gears in our cars. When it came to aircon this was achieved by manually and slowly winding down your window and Volvo owners were mocked for driving with their lights on during the day, “that will never catch on” they said. Finding your way around when the only type of navigation system was an A - Z made reaching your destination sometimes impossible if the location you were going to required a turn of the page to find it. We even had a choice about wearing our seatbelts! Probably the most epic change in cars is how much technology there is everywhere and as it changes so has the equipment and services we offer. Some of us still remember those cold frosty mornings when we couldn’t even get our keys in the lock and the tape player (if you were lucky to have one), had eaten up our new charts tape we had recorded on the previous Sunday evening’s radio show. Who knows what will happen during the next 40 years until our 80th birthday. What won’t change is our passion for the industry and having our finger on the pulse to all the changes even when the years go by so quickly. Doesn’t time fly? Although sadly our cars don’t… yet.
