What is Sensory Assessment? Sensory assessment evaluates how your child copes with the load of sensory information that they perceive from their environment and body every day and how it influences their function in day-to-day activities. It is an assessment of a person’s sensory perception, integration, and discrimination, and it is necessary to determine the motor and sensory factors that influence the development of personal autonomy. Sensory Strategies That Help Student’s Success in School Children who find it difficult to process sensory information may have trouble completing school tasks, which may affect their school, based professional development. They may find it difficult to participate in tasks that require

them to attend to instruction, sit still, socially engage with peers or work cooperatively with others. These sensory strategies are Hug your knees Students sit on the floor with their knees up, and feet planted firmly on the floor. Have them move their knees below their chin and hug them tightly. This integrates proprioceptive input by applying deep pressure on joints. Backward hug Students sit tall on the floor and reach both arms backward, crossing their hands to squeeze their wrists. This also helps to integrate proprioceptive information through joint compression. Tangle/sting fidget tools Fidget Tools are provided so students can fidget with them in a functional and repetitive way to eliminate excess energy. The tool provides feedback from tactile input.
