ROTARY INTERNATIONAL PRESIDENT MESSAGE In Rotary, 23 February is our anniversary, and February is also the month when we focus on promoting peace. There is a reason for this: Contributing to peace and international understanding has been a high priority for us since our earliest days. We are often asked: “How can we get involved in peace now?” There are many paths to peace in Rotary. Our youth programs point us in the direction of Positive Peace, as does the work of intercountry committees and the Rotary Action Group for Peace. Another path is the Rotarian Peace Projects Incubator (RPPI), an inspirational collaboration among Rotarians, Rotaractors, and Rotary Peace Fellows and alumni. Led by Rotarians in Switzerland and Liechtenstein, RPPI has designed 48 global projects that any club can support, either directly or through Rotary Foundation global grants. Nino Lotishvili and Matthew Johnsen, alumni of the Rotary Peace Center at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand, are two of the many volunteers. RTN HOLGER KNAACK During my Rotary peace journey, I have learned how personal resilience helps build inner peace and create sustainable outer peace. This was the inspiration behind RI PRESIDENT (2020-21) the Women Peace Ambassadors for the South Caucasus project, which is based on my field research in Georgia. The RPPI team of Rotarians and peace fellows recognized the incredible potential of women from mixed-ethnicity families who live on borderlands to be role models for peace within and beyond their communities. Through workshops on building inner and outer peace that draw on the power of storytelling, 40 participants will be sharing their stories and reaching around 400 extended family and community members. These inspiring but marginalized women will reclaim their inner strength as peacebuilders at the grassroots level. In this way, we will take steps toward the sustainable, peaceful society we need so much, not only in our region, but throughout the world. — Nino Lotishvili I was excited to join the peace incubator project and to further strengthen my ties with Rotary’s peace community by working with past and current peace fellows to develop these proposals. My team wrote five proposals — three in Bangladesh, one in Iraq, and one in Poland — that focus on the arts and on education to generate dialogue across religious divisions and avert the radicalization of young people. I was inspired by how, despite the pandemic, we came together via technology with a vision to develop, test, and strengthen ideas and to produce workable solutions that clubs across the world can support to advance peace. ROTARACTOR’s NITE कk सफलता के कारण यह रोटरD पटना vमड टाउन का एक वा!षक< xथायी कायy< म बन गया। हम \"Jतवष< अपने \"ायोजक रोटरD पटना vमड टाउन jलब म= जाने लगे जहाँ हम= हमेशा ,यार vमला। रोzेjट म= सदxयता कk उ{ सीमा १८ से २९ वष< तक हD है। जब २९व= वष< म= हमलोग अपने रोटरD पटना vमड टाउन jलब म= Rotaractor’s Nite के vलए पहूँचे तो मेरा मन बहुत !वचvलत और उदास था Tक अगले वष< से हम नहDं आ पाएँगे। उस Mदन धZयवाद †ापन देते वjत जब म_ रो पड़ा तो Rtn. Dr. R. N. Singh ने कं धे पर हाथ रखते हुए कहा Tक “अब तमु लोग रोटरDयन के mप म= हमारे साथ रहोगे।” 1994 म= उस समय के \"ेvसड=ट Rtn. Dr. B. N. Singh ने हम= सदxयता Qहण करने के vलए आमं’lत Tकया और पाचँ रोzेjटर2 ने रोटरD कk सदxयता एक साथ लD। इस \"कार मेरD रोटरD कk जीवन याlा का शभु ारSभ हुआ। रोटरD म= अपनी “मता, सTyयता और सौ \"Jतशत उपिxत0थ के कारण ज•द हD मझु े बोड< ओफ़ डायरेjटर म= Jनयvमत mप से xथान vमलने लगा।अपने व˜र™ठ रोटरDयन2 को म_ बहुत हD ›यान से सनु ता और सेवा के सभी योजनाओं म= बढ़चढ़ कर Mहxसा लेता था।वे मेरे \"ेरणा के œोत थे। सभी लोग मझु े बहुत मानते और मझु पर अपने xनेह, सौहाद< और अपन•व कk बौछार करते थे। कु छ लोग2 को जलन होती थी लेTकन अगर आप ईमानदार ह_ और आपकk नीJत और नीयत स]ची है तो कोई आपका कु छ भी नहDं ’बगाड़ सकता। आपकk छमता खदु अपनी राह बना लेती है।वा!षक< अवाड< समारोह2 म= Best Director, Four avenues of Service Citation, Best Rotarian, Rotarian of the year जसै े बहुत सारे अवाडस< ने हमेशा मेरा मनोबल बढ़ाया और रोटरD मेरD आदत बनती जा रहD थी।सरxवती कk कृ पा से अ]छ¤ आवाज़ और अ]छा बोलने कk “मता के कारण म_ परू े मडं ल म= ज•द हD एक जाना पहचाना चेहरा बन गया। मडं ल के कई jलब मझु े वjता के mप म= भी आमं’lत करने लगे। एक बार बोकारो jलब म= पीडीजी सरु =¦ साहनी के §वारा मझु े यथू स!वस< माह म= मडं लDय सेvमनार म= वjता के mप म= आमं’lत Tकया गया। वहाँ RID सशु ील ग,ु ता म¨ु य अJत0थ एवं xपीकर थे।उZह2ने और सभीलोग2 ने मेरD आवाज़ म= मेरे उदगार2 को बहुत ›यान से सनु ा और बहुत सराहना कk।यह मेरे vलए ’बलकु ल नया अनभु व था। PDG अJनल कु मार ने मझु से कहा Tक “You are a DG material. Go for it.” मझु े बेशक अ]छा लगा था jय2Tक म_ तब तक अपने jलब का \"ेvसड=ट भी नहDं बना था। सेवा काय® म= मेरD सTyयता को देखते हुए सन 1999 म= मझु े jलब का स0चव चनु vलया गया।रोटरD म= मेरा जनु नू और आदत इस कदर बढ़ चकु k थी Tक म_ स0चव पद पर रहते हुए \"ेvसड=ट कk सीमा म= अJतyमण कर देता था।मेरे \"ेvसड=ट रो. 0गरजा शकं र vसहं मझु े बहुत मानते थे और ,यार से समझाते थे लेTकन मझु े अपने आप को सा’बत करना था।म_ हमेशा सव¯< े™ठ करना चाहता था। उस समय धनबाद के DG पंकज कु मार vसZहा थे।परू े सl म= मेरे jलब ने बहुत सेवा काय< Tकए।सl समाि,त पर अवाड< समारोह म= हम धनबाद गए। मेरे jलब ने कई अवाडस< जीते लेTकन सवा<0धक ख़शु ी और आ•मसंतोष देने वाला अवाड< BEST SECRETARY का अवाड< था। इस अवाड< के vलए मचं से कहा गया Tक “दोxत2 ! ये एक ऐसा अवाड< है िजसके vलए Jनणाय< क मडं लD रो. डा. सशु ील पो§दार के नाम पर एकमत थी।मेरD आखँ 2 म= ख़शु ी के आसँ ँू थे।म_ सेवा के पथ पर कदम बढ़ा चकु ा था। इसका \"Jतफल मझु े तरु ंत vमला। सन 2000 म= पीडीजी बसतं हेतमस˜रया ने मझु े पहलD बार मडं ल 3250 के कै ’बनेट म= DRCC( District Rotaract committee Chairman) का पदभार Mदया। मेरे रोटेरjटर साथी बहुत ख़शु थे। उZह2ने मझु े जो ,यार और सSमान Mदया, वह म_ कभी नहDं भलू सकता हूँ।उस समय रोटे˜रयन और रोटेरjटर के बीच इस बात पर काफ़k तनाव रहता था Tक \"ायोजक रोटरD jलब के रोटे˜रयन अपने यवु ा रोटेरjटर सा0थय2 के साथ नौकर कk तरह सलकू करते ह_।तब DRCC होने के नाते मन_ े DG बसतं से एक मडं लDय सेvमनार एक साथ रोटे˜रयन और रोटेरjटर के vलए आयोिजत करने का अनरु ोध Tकया। सेvमनार का नाम था “मलु ाकात : रोटरD और रोटेरjट का vमलन”।भारD सं¨या म= रोटेरjटर आए थे। वो Mदन था जब रोटे˜रयन और रोटेरjटर के बीच एक नए यगु कk श¹ु आत हुई। आपसी मतभेद लगभग ख़•म हो गए। मन_ े मंच संचालन Tकया और उस सेvमनार म= इस बात पर बल Mदया था Tक रोटरD म= साथक< सदxयता व§ृ 0ध का समाधान “Membership Growth in Rotary through Rotaract” \"ाथvमकता होनी चाMहए। तब सभागहृ म= मौजदू म¨ु य अJत0थ, वjतागण और व˜र™ठ रोटेरDयन मेरD बात पर एकमत नहD थे लेTकन समय बहुत बलवान होता है। मझु े आज बहुत ख़शु ी है Tक मेरD उस सोच को आज 18 वष® के बाद रोटरD इंटनश¿ नल ने साकार Tकया। वे भी अब रोटेरjट कk महÀा को समझने लगे ह_। तभी तो डू अल मेSबvशप< कk अवधारणा को लेकर आए ह_। चvलए ! देर आए पर द¹ु xत आए।To be continued in next issue........... आशा है Tक आपको एक रोटेरेjटर कk कहानी अ]छ¤ लग रहD होगी। आप यूँ हD Jनरंतर आगे बढ़ते रMहए। हम आपस म= बात= करते रह=गे और इZहDं शभु कामनाओं के साथ, रोटरै%टवाद म+ आपका, PP Rtn. RI President-elect announces 2021-22 presidential theme by Ryan Hyland Incoming Rotary International President Shekhar Mehta urged members to become more involved in service projects, saying that caring for and serving others is the best way to live because it changes not only other people’s lives, but also our own. Watch the theme address Mehta, a member of the Rotary Club of Calcutta-Mahanagar, West Bengal, India, revealed the 2021-22 presidential theme, Serve to Change Lives, to incoming district governors on 1 February during the Rotary International Assembly. The assembly, a yearly training event for district governors-elect, was originally set to take place in Orlando, Florida, USA, but was held virtually because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Mehta spoke about how participating in service projects through Rotary changed him as a person and made him empathize more with the needs of others. Soon after joining his club, he helped carry out projects that benefited rural communities in India. Some of the poor conditions he saw in those communities strengthened his commitment to service. “I truly understood the plight of my brethren,” he said. Mehta participated in initiatives that brought artificial limbs to children, clean water and sanitation to homes, and better health care facilities to communities. “Rotary kindled the spark within me to look beyond myself and embrace humanity,” he said. “Service became a way of life for me and I, like many others, adopted the guiding philosophy that ‘Service is the rent I pay for the space I occupy on this earth, and I want to be a good tenant of this earth.’”

Mehta encouraged district governors-elect to lead by example during their term and inspire Rotary and Rotaract members to participate in projects that have measurable and sustainable impacts. He’s asking each club to conduct a Rotary Day of Service. “At the end of your term as district governor, you should feel that because of your leadership, because of your inspiration to Rotarians and Rotaractors, the world has changed for the better because of the service done by them during the year,” he said. Focusing on diversity, membership For the 2021-22 Rotary year, Mehta wants members to focus their efforts on empowering girls and ensuring their access to education, resources, services, and opportunities so that future generations of women leaders will have the tools they need to succeed. Mehta asked members to use Rotary’s belief that diversity, equity, and inclusion is critical in all we do as a compass to guide this work. “There are many issues that girls face in different parts of the world, and you as leaders will ensure that we try and mitigate the disadvantage of the girl that they may have,” he said. To be able to do more through service, Rotary needs to increase membership, Mehta said. Membership has hovered around 1.2 million for the past two decades. He challenged the incoming governors to be catalysts in their districts to help increase membership to 1.3 million by 1 July 2022. Mehta’s Each One, Bring One initiative asks every member to bring one person to join Rotary within the next 17 months.
