E-LEARNING DURING COVID- 19 : MY PERSPECTIVE E-learning during Covid-19: your perspectives ?Surabhi Chetia DHSK College, Dibrugarh B.A. 2nd Semester E-mail: [email protected] Introduction The rapid growth and development of modern science and technology helps invent many things and it also influences greatly the educational system of all the countries of the world. They make the education system more lively, realistic and more easier. The whole world now turns into a global village due to surprising development of the skills of science and technology. As a result, the education system of every country creates different educational system through online. E-learning is one of those educational system which is programmed for children to adults who do not get to opportunity to get four walls of classrooms of formal education or those who wants to learn more. E-learning is a recognised educational practice that supports a flexible model of access to knowledge, enabling education and training numerically larger with many audience. It tries to fulfill the demands of the learners through online classes, lectures, visual resources like photos, videos etc. that helps to recognise easily. It can also be termed as a network enable transfer of skills and knowledge, the delivery of education is made to a larger number of recipients at the different times in different. Body In my perspective, E-learning method is more advantageous preferable for those learners who belongs to privileged areas. It has proved to be the best in the corporate sector, especially employees are able to acquire important skills while sitting in a board room, or by having seminars etc. In India, here education system is developing. Now-a-days but for different reasons like financially, 44
E-LEARNING DURING COVID- 19 : MY PERSPECTIVE mentally, physically, socially people are unable to interact with this type of learning method. No doubt, it is helpful for the learners in visual, audible aspects but it doesn’t give the actual learning environment for the students. A teacher is physical presence is always necessary for students for face to face learning because it creates concentration, interest, attraction, interaction on studies. Though, it is a time consuming method but it affects learner’s mental health as well as physical heath like it effects our eyes, also creates the problems of migraine etc. Though it gives online degrees and all, but practically it is less effective for learners and if it comes to adults, then they not introduced by this type of methods. Some people are unable to take courses in the place of immediate face to face feedbacks. On the other hand, it is also unable to develop communication skills for the learner’s. Therefore, I think this type of education or training system is only useful for those who are apt for it and belongs to urban areas. During Covid-19, learning is not possible for all the learner’s. Due to such critical time of circumstances, people are not able to receive proper classes. If they have any Covid-19 patient, then they can also be infected, they should get themselves tested and maintain proper protocol. It just totally destroys their concentration, self- motivation whether they will live or not, and I think there is no way for education to continue where people are effected by their mental breakdowns. In India, the financial status of every Indian is not equal and therefore, large amount of people who are from below middle class. So basically half of the student population belongs to lower middle classes and under privileged sections of societies. On the other hand, the main source of E-learning is the ‘internet’, but in India, the present network connection is so poor that we are not able to connect or join online classes, lectures, attend seminars etc. And also there is no surety of availability of suitable devices for every learners in our country. Because the system of E-learning is only available in android devices, which may not be affordable to all. For example, during our online classes, it is not possible for the teachers that 45
E-LEARNING DURING COVID- 19 : MY PERSPECTIVE discussed all problems of every student and immediate interact with the student. Some of the students are not comfortable discussing their problems in front of others as they lose their self-confidence. So that nothing could be better than E-learning in this time of pandemic. In country like India, there are many remote and underdeveloped which areas are not touched by Internet connections. There are also adverse effects of E- learning system in immature children, as by procuring the internet facilities, they could get some unethical information from the internet. On the other hand, if there is an examination then, cheating becomes inevitable aspects during such online examination. So, I suggest that our education system should not take examinations online, because of poor internet connection and unavailability of costly android mobiles. Secondly, if the situation arises then online classes should be provided and free internet connection should be given for 4-5 hours in a day. Thirdly, I suggest that Peer feedback be made to solve problems. Although E-learning causes social isolation, it promotes increasing interaction between online students. After this crucial time, schools, colleges and universities will be open and then examination should be taken. Self study is the only way to gain knowledge and experience during this period. Conclusion According to Nelson Mandela, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” And in India, education is open for all, and efforts have been made to make it affordable and easy like other countries. And now this dynamic situation, E-learning tries to fulfill the needs, desires and provide materials to the learners. It also helps in the sector of official sides like work from home, training from home etc. But here self-influence provides more knowledge and information. Thus, I suggest for all the learner’s without wasting their times, they should read not only their courses books but also reads other books and articles at their home. #stay safe #stay home #stay healthy 46
