NON PROFIT ORGANIZATION U.S. POSTAGE PAID PERMIT NO. 641THE GOOD SAMARITAN HEALTH CENTER, INC1015 DONALD LEE HOLLOWELL PKWY.ATLANTA, GA 30318 THE FULL CIRCLE OF HEALTH 2014 ANNUAL REPORT THE CHANGING LANDSCAPE OF HEALTHCARE: FIVE REASONS GOOD SAM IS STILL NEEDED1) C urrently, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Sciences, 16.4 million previously uninsured people have gained insurance through the ACA. Millions remain uninsured. This is particularly true in Georgia, as Georgia did not expand Medicaid. Those left without insurance include the poorest of the working poor and undocumented immigrants, populations Good Samaritan continues to serve.2) G ood Samaritan provides care to vulnerable populations, which include the poor, racial and ethnic minorities, women, children, people with mental illness, people with disabilities, and people with language barriers. People can still be vulnerable to poor health and quality even when they have insurance.3) G ood Samaritan overcomes patient barriers to care through bilingual providers and staff, Saturday hours, location and community outreach, full family services in one location, full diagnostic capacity, and access to specialty services.4) M edical care alone prevents only 10-15% of premature deaths. Improving health care outcomes requires providing people with the information and tools needed to make healthy choices and prevent disease. Good Samaritan offers a variety of health education programs including nutritional counseling, diabetes education, kidney classes, prenatal education, our teaching kitchen, the urban farm, and caring for their spiritual needs, a critical piece of the Full Circle of Health.”5) Regardless of changes in health policy and clinical practice, Good Samaritan continues to focus on a unique mission of showing God’s love to our patients.
