Dazzle is the latest, and perhaps most accomplished, of all the wonderful Beardies I have been privileged to beowned by. As both her sire and dam are dual champions and Masters In Versatility, it came as no surprise that Dazzle had inheritedboth instinct and ability, but the amount she has accomplished in such a short time (Dazzle will not be 4 years old until November)is also a testament to her own unique combination of beauty, intelligence, trainability, and drive: BOB from the classes over a specialto finish her breed championship and making the final cut in BOB at the 2017 BCCA National Specialty; multiple all breed HITs inherding on both A & B courses as well as the the 2017 Bishop and Jack Awards from the BCCA; multiple high combined awards, multiple BCCA year end awards and qualification for the AKC National Championships in Rally; the CHIP Versatility Award winnerat the 2017 Nationals; the youngest dog to achieve a BCCA Masters In Versatility award to date.At a recent trial, someone asked me what Dazzle and I have left to do together since she had finished her herding championship soquickly. I had no problem with an answer: an agility championship, a UD, a Rally Masters title, and maybe that elusive tracking titleI have worked toward with several of my dogs, but never achieved. And beyond the titles and awards, Dazzle remains my lovingcompanion and helper around the farm. I couldn’t run my stock dog training business without her!I’d like to thank a number of people who have helped Dazzle and me along the way. First and foremost, Sonja Blanchard who selectedmy Jack to sire Quincy’s first litter and then allowed me to have little “Pumpkin.” Diane Menard who got us started on the right footin herding and Terry Wofford and Molly Wisecarver who have shown us how to hone our trialing skills so that Dazzle could becomethe fierce competitor she is today. And Betty Belliveau, our obedience and agility instructor, who helped me convince a very reluctantDazzle that she REALLY could pick up and hold that pesky dumbbell and even jump with it! Joanne WilliamsonEditor’s LetterUnfortunately, the Spring 2018 issue had a delay at the fulfillment house, and I realize that our subscribers received their issue late. This also impacted our advertising community since many of you did not realize the closing date was August 1st. Due to the delay,I extended the deadline date to August 10th. We needed to get the magazine to the printer by August 25th in order to distribute themagazine prior to the Specialty. Hopefully, most of you have this issue to enjoy before your journey to the Specialty.Looking at issues from the past, we all can see that our advertising community, our membership, and our breeders are in decline. In order to keep our magazine solvent and in paper form, we have been trying new ways to increase advertising. Our sections of“sharing” a page with other advertisers for special sections, i.e., Stud Dog section, Puppy/Veteran section and Brag Performancesection seem to be well received. We will continue to offer these special sections in each issue. The next issue is the Specialty Issue andwe are going to also include a special section for those ads. Look for the special bonus rate.We always allot pages for critiques and photo essays, so perhaps you can encourage members in your club to advertise their success inthe Bulletin rather than on Facebook. I know that this is not the first time I have stated that you don’t have to be a Best of Breed winnerto advertise in the magazine. Black/white designed ads can be purchased for $110, if color does not meet your budget. We look forward to seeing many ads from those who attend this year’s Specialty. Good luck, safe journey and I hope you bring homethe ribbons! Lillian Esposito, EditorSummer 2018 Performance Issue 1
