CHIP VERSATILITY AWARDThe Chip Versatility award is offered in memory of Britannia Chip Thrills, the first Beardie to qualify for a BCCA MasterOf Versatility Award. To be eligible, teams must compete in at least three venues offered during the National Specialty.These include: agility, herding, rally, obedience, and conformation. Points are earned by competing, qualifying or placingdepending on the venue.This year seven Beardies competed in the required three or more venues to be eligible for the Chip Versatility Award.For the second year in a row the winner was Balderdash Bedazzled At Balgrae who is owned and handled by JoanneWilliamson. Wewanted judges who could and would appreciate the Volume 48, No. 3 Beardie BulletinBearded Collie working style and judge consistently.We could not be more pleased with our selections. JohnHolman & Ken Theus were a wonderful compliment to thetrial and to each other. Their style and scoring were verysimilar, which to participants is a bonus. In addition, theywere helpful, humorous, knowledgeable and so willing toshare their perspective with participants.Prizes, trophies and ribbons were expertly handled bySharon Prassa, chair of the National event. The weatherwas near perfect! Saturday morning started crisp and coolwith a thick layer of dew on the grass fields. Cars neatlylined up along the field with dogs walking (on leash)with their owners. Sniff, sniff, sniff! So, this is NorthernCalifornia grass, you could hear some of them saying.The grounds are not large although more than adequatefor us. It is a beautiful setting with the moist grass fieldsand the sun rising over the walnut trees to the east.Afternoons were breezy and low 80s. I am grateful to allwho participated and visited for making this outing such asuccess.Our judge, John Holman summed up the weekend withthese thoughts. On Sept 29th and 30th of this year, I wasprivileged to judge the herding trials at this year’s BeardedCollie Specialty. The trials were held at the JR Ranchfacility in Patterson, CA and I am happy to report that56

Agility results 2018 BCCA NATIONALCHAIR’S REPORT – PAM HARRIS I want to thank all the workers and the trial committee for their dedication to our club’s trial. As usual, membersThe 2018 BCCA National Agility Trial has come and gone. eagerly filled all the working spots so that the exhibitorsLooking back at the day, we had great weather, great could focus on the dogs and runs. Several people came toexhibitors, a great judge (Jeff Ipser), great help and a great work who didn’t even have dogs entered. HIT awards andtime! Jeff is known for having challenging, fun and doable worker prizes were very impressive. Thank you again forcourses as well as for his own expertise in trialing and asking me to judge our National Specialty.obtaining many MACH titles on his Beardies. We were sopleased he could join us. I would like to thank my co-chair, The Qualifiers – Libby Myers-BuhiteJack Buhite and the agility committee of Libby Myers-Buhite, Jana Dozet, Suzi Beddoe, and AKC/USDAA Judge 20 Beardies entered the trial. 6 out of the 16 who ranTammy Domico, as well as our show secretary Lorie qualified. 12 of the 43 runs were successful.Abbott for their dedication and expertise for putting on atrial. Our Chief Course Builder and equipment supplier, Score Place Time/SCT/Yds CH ptsTammy Domico, is well known for being fast and efficientin setting up courses! Together she and Jeff made a perfect Standard - HIT - Emma - 1st/13 NAteam! As usual I was proud of our Beardie community forvolunteering and stepping in where needed, but mostly Novice B Roxie 85 1st/3 57.16’/67’/140 17 ptfor all of their friendliness and camaraderie! Excellent Fyvie 74 1st/1 28.38’/32’JUDGE’S COMMENTS – JEFF IPSER Masters P Emma 63 1st/1 32.23’/35’Thanks to the Northern California Bearded Collie Fanciersfor asking me to judge the 2018 National Specialty agility Time2Beat - HIT - Emma - 1st/6trial. The trial was held outdoors on grass within walking Masters P Emma 10 1st/1 37.82’/37.82’distance of the hotel rooms. The weather was sunny andin the 70s. When I walked on the grass the day before the SPECIAL AWARDStrial, I noticed that the grass was thick and fluffy. I had a High Combined - Emmaconcern that dropped bars would be an issue. High Combined Champion of Record - Emma Oldest Qualifying Veteran - LarkWe started with the Time 2 Beat class. Five dogs ran the High Combined Novice - Echocourse. The first four dogs did drop bars. The fifth ranclean and was HIT. The next class was FAST. The entry Suzi Beddoe’s Emma - QQQQ, GCH MACH PACHwas a little larger and bars seemed to stay up for the most Headlines Upcoming News CD BN RAE PT MXS MJS MXP3part. The dogs and handlers made the adjustment to therunning surface. The next two classes were Standard and MXPB MJP4 MJPB PAX XF T2B2 T2BP THD CGC TKA MVJWW. We ended the day with the relay that featured eighttwo-Beardie/two-Handler teams with a baton exchange Volume 48, No. 3 Beardie Bulletinarea.60

Many congratulations to Suzi Beddoe and Emma who Congratulations to Sue Banfield Kirk and Echo who madeearned a quadruple Q for qualifying in all her runs. Emma a spectacular agility debut, qualifying in both JWW andwon High in Trial in Standard, Time2Beat, as well as High FAST and earning High in Trial for Jumpers with WeavesCombined and High Combined Champion of Record. and the Highest Qualifying Novice award.Suzi wrote that the 2018 BCCA National Agility Trialwas definitely one for the memory books. She ended up in 1st place in her four and in doing so, were there for me and it felt like Mom.runs and was delighted with all the tug toys (made byJana Dozet) that she got to take home. Our day ended on a Echo and I bumbled our way thru the day and managedmajor high - High in Trial in both Standard and T2B plus to end up on our feet. At the end of the JWW (anotherHigh Combined and High Scoring Champion of Record!!!! acronym) a new friend said, ‘You got a Q!’ I had to askWe went home with enough trophy chairs to outfit our what that meant. The nerves began to let up near the endpatio!! What a truly amazing day!! Lastly, I want to give when the delightful Christiana Taylor and I participatedmy thanks to all who competed, watched, worked and in the tunnel relay.
