One dam didn’t have any/much exposure and wasn’t really interested at this point in her life. Her offspring, which I didn’t know before hand, wasonly five months old and was ready to go. I couldn’t send any paperwork on because of his age, but he is definitely agood candidate for more herding training.Qualifiers 11; Entries 20 AllAround Mockingjay: Girl on Fire Owners, Gretchen & Darron Blackburn Britannia Ripple In Time, Owner, Joanne Williamson Britannia Turn Back Time, Owner, Joanne Williamson GCH Daybar Heigh Ho Silver CGC, Owner, Chris Hays Denters Whirlwinds Bourbon on the Rocks, Owner, Lisa Werkhaven CH Heartstone “Over There, Over There”, Owners, Bill & Suzanne Easley Buck Jenuwin’s Open A New Window at Sebring, Owner, J. Owned by Tracy and Don Parciak, the facility has hosted many herding trialsthroughout the years. Known for its excellent stock, both sheep and ducks, this year’s Specialty trials proved to be noexception to its reputation. With temperatures in the mid 90’s the preceding week, the weather looked like it might be a little trying for stock, aswell as dogs and handlers. However the powers that be looked favorably on the Specialty trial weekend with a high bothdays twenty degrees cooler. The following week the temperature bounced back into the 90’s when luckily the rest of theSpecialty events were held in the air conditioned Purina Event Center.Saturday’s trial, judged by Rochelle Sanford-Diaz, started with ten dogs entered in the HT class. It was a tribute to thepreparedness of all who entered, there was a 100 percent qualifying rate! The duck trials followed with both B and Acourses being run. Out of the nine combined runs, there were five qualifying runs with Joanne Williamson’s Dazzlescoring a high in trial of 99 on B ducks as well as the high score in A ducks of 96! Terry Manganiello’s Liz was awardedRHIT with a score of 93.Fall 3017 Specialty Issue 59

With the duck portion of the dayover we moved back to workingthe sheep with the advanced, intermediate, and started classes. The advanced class had fourentries with a move-up fromthe intermediate class and theintermediate class had one entry. The started class had an entry CH Balderdash Bedazzled At Balgrae CD PCD RE PT AXP OJP OFPof 17 dogs. This class was a joy Owner: Joanne Williamsonto watch as all the dogs andhandlers looked well preparedfor the task at hand. Althoughonly 10 of the runs qualified, allof the teams had areas in theirrespective runs that looked great. One could tell that it wouldn’ttake much to achieve success in the future.PT class followed with all entries qualifying. Expect great things from them as they advance in their careers. Finally therewere many entries in the herding instinct test with 10 qualifying.High in Trial Sheep and Reserve High in Trial both came out of the started class with Terry Johnson & Linda Porter’sTweeddale’s Star Spangled taking first and Lucy Campbell-Gracie’s GCH Briarpatch Look What’s Next taking second.Saturday evening everyone was invited to the herding dinner held at Bandanas Bar-B-Q. It was very well attended and allenjoyed great food and conversation.Sunday’s day of trials under judge Sean Hathaway started in much the same way as Saturday’s with all HT runsqualifying. The trial runs had a bit of competition with the distant neighbors electing to reduce the amount of ammunition they hadbefore the expiration dates passed. This did not deter most of the herding runs and the qualifying rate was still very high.Sunday’s High in Trial Sheep was again awarded to Tweeddale’s Star Spangled, with Reserve going to GCH Pentangle’sUp Up And Way To Headlines, owned by Barbara Burton and Lisa Voss.HIT ducks went to Joanne Williamson and CH Balderdash Bedazzled At Balgrae and RHIT went to CH Moonstone GetOut Of My Way, owned by Linda Porter, Sandy McDonald and Casey Minner. Life at the farmThere is nothing quite like a vacation trip to the farm. Up at the crack of dawn, chores to do, animals to feed and groom, regular meals, and then relaxing in the rocking chair reflecting on the peace and quiet of life in the country. Not quite howthe 21 committee chairs who helped to put on the 2017 BCCA National Specialty, “At the Farm,” held at RottiEwe Farmand Purina Farms respectively, might describe their days. Hopefully, those who attended the week-long event, however, experienced a relaxed and positive atmosphere in which to compete, socialize, and enjoy themselves - our goal for thisBCCA National Specialty. Some of the hidden moments and highlights that many experienced were• seeing Pioneer breeders, some long absent from our gatherings, enjoying themselves• meeting and cheering on our international visitors as they competed in different venues• enjoying a wonderful welcome party complete with live music by a Brazilian jazz ensemble• blessing our lucky stars that the years of experience with BCCA national specialties that committee chairs brought to the table made up for things unknown, forgotten or unexpected• noticing how smoothly the conformation chair, the ring stewards and assistant kept the conformation ring moving without a hitch• enjoying a photo exhibit with 109 entries exhibited in the Great Hall at Purina• watching the rescue, therapy and titleholder parades so skillfully put together complete with an official MC dressed in formal attire• participating in a first-ever on-line auction when coupled with a huge bag auction, put smiles on faces• noticing how excited agility folks were with an extra 1/2 day to compete with their Beardies• hearing how important the obedience and rally C Match were from those who qualified the next day• appreciating the talents and diplomacy of the RV chair, concierge of the mobile hotel• acknowledging the skillful work of the vendor chair to mediate many demands for space• admiring the elegance and craftsmanship of the trophies created by our own BCCA members• marveling at the graciousness of Purina staff, performance secretaries and the conformation superintendent• holding in highest esteem our treasurer, webmaster and others with financial, technological and design skills that illuminated this special week togetherThere are so many people to thank from committee chairs to Purina staff to judges to all of you who attended the NationalSpecialty! Thank you on behalf of the members of the Great Plains Bearded Collie Club who served as the host of the 2017BCCA National Specialty. We could not have done any of this without you. And, to those Beardie folks who passed thisyear, including GPBCC’s own Ann and Harry Witte, we hope from afar with Beardies at your side, you had the time ofyour lives “At the Farm.” Carol Sirrine, 2017 BCCA National Specialty Show ChairAKC AGILITY2017 AKC Agility- 3rd Quarter ResultsCheri Omnus, Libby Myers Buhite, Joanne Williamson Richard and Rosanna Masley’s Szaffi In July, August and September, 83 Beardies earned a total of 708 legs. 40 of these dogs completed 70 titles, including MACH Wookie Gang Ambermoon MXB MJS OF 8 championships.
