Summarized History of F.M.C.O.G. One day while in prayer Overseer Teslyn King had a vision. She saw a woman giving birth to a man child and the voice of the Lord said to her that the church was born. Although she did not know where, when or how, she knew that God had spoken to her. Overseer Teslyn King was on route from May Pen, Clarendon, Jamaica to Kingston. She was led to get off the bus at Feather Bed Lane (off the Old Harbour Road, St. Catherine). As the Lord led her, she fearlessly walked for a while then left the community. Following the leading of the Lord, Overseer King returned to Feather Bed Lane on Sunday May 14, 1978 with a team of 4 other persons. They did door to door evangelism and having received favourable responses from members of the community, an open air service was held the same evening. This was followed by10 weeks of nightly services. At end of the 10 weeks there were 28 converts. Numerous persons from in and around the community attended the services which continued thereafter; miracles were experienced, souls were saved, and lives were transformed. A church was born and established at Feather Bed Lane, Spanish Town, St. Catherine. Special events & dates The first Sunday morning worship service and Sunday School were held on Sunday June 4, 1978. • On Sunday March 25, 1979 we had our first fellowship service where 39 persons received the right hand of fellowship.
• The first Anniversary service was held on Sunday, June 17, 1979. • On February 6, 1983, the church experienced one of our greatest attacks when the church was stoned while prayer meeting was in session. • As the church continued to grow, it became apparent that we needed a bigger place to house the church. The church relocated to 194-195 Park Avenue in Sydenham, in June 1988. • A temporary board building was constructed and the first worship service was held in Sydenham on Sunday, July 3, 1988. • Two (2) months following the first worship service, we suffered yet another setback in the passage Hurricane Gilbert on Monday, September 13, 1988. This hurricane greatly affected the roof of the building and we had to do some reconstruction. As the church became an independent body, its name was further changed and subsequently registered on the 28th of October 1989 as Faith Mission Church of God.
Song We’ve Come This Far By Faith We've come this far by faith Leaning on the Lord Trusting in His holy word He never failed me yet Oh, oh oh oh, oh oh oh Can't turn around We've come this far by faith I will trust in the Lord I will trust in the Lord I will trust in the Lord 'til I die I'm gonna stay on the battlefield I'm gonna stay on the battlefield I'm gonna stay on the battlefield 'til I die I'm gonna treat everybody right I'm gonna treat everybody right I'm gonna treat everybody right 'til I die
Song Stand Up, Stand Up For Jesus Stand up, stand up for Jesus, Ye soldiers of the cross; Lift high his royal banner, It must not suffer loss. From victory unto victory His army shall he lead, Till every foe is vanquished, And Christ is Lord indeed. Stand up, stand up for Jesus, Stand in his strength alone; The arm of flesh will fail you, Ye dare not trust your own. Put on the gospel armor, Each piece put on with prayer; Where duty calls or danger, Be never wanting there. Stand up, stand up for Jesus, The strife will not be long; This day the noise of battle, The next the victor's song. To those who vanquish evil A crown of life shall be; They with the King of Glory Shall reign eternally.
