MESSAGE FROM U.S. COMMERCIAL SERVICE (FCS) MS BRENDA VANHORN Principal Commercial Officer, U.S. Commercial Service (FCS) U.S. Consulate General, Mumbai Dear USIIC Friends, It brings me great joy to send you this message for inclusion in the U.S. India Importers' Council Timeline issue. Since the very beginning, USIIC and the U.S. Commercial Service have been partners in the truest sense of the word. Successful partnerships are those in which the partners complement each other's strengths and become stronger by their associa on. One of my first acts as Principal Commercial Officer in Mumbai was to meet with the board of directors of USIIC. It was immediately apparent that this group had an expansive strategic vision for promo ng economic growth to benefit both American and Indian Companies. Having a partner organiza on with a shared vision, who operates with the highest professional standards and business ethics is a dream for any commercial officer. USIIC has been that partner during my tour of Mumbai. Despite the challenges of the past year, we accomplished much, from a highly successful summit on Ar ficial Intelligence to introducing American and Indian firms to each other via Webinar to an event on Cyber Security that drew hundreds of a endees. These events are emblema c of our mutual interest in providing a pla orm to share informa on that helps enrich our broad and diverse audience while further strengthening the strong es between our two great countries. This would not be possible without the shared goals and long-standing trust that exists in the partnership of USIIC and the U.S. Commercial Service. I sincerely wish the members and directors of USIIC and all the team at the U.S. Commercial Service (FCS) many more years of a happy and produc ve partnership. Congratula ons on the publica on of this special meline issue. With warm regards, Brenda VanHorn 3

MUMBAI CHAPTER PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE MR. NALLORE SRINIVASAN Director, USIIC Execu ve Director - Fuji Silvertech Concrete Pvt. Ltd. Dear Members and Patron, With profound pleasure, we are bringing out this updated issue of USIIC meline. In this meline we have tried to showcase all the important USIIC events over the years. The story of the genesis of USIIC began at the turn of this century when the world saw rapid growth in global trade, due to the opening of economies. Most leading economies which were used to having trade surpluses slowly became consumer of goods and services from leading developing countries such as India. Tradi onally many U.S. firms never thought of going global, since the domes c market was large enough. Many started to export their manufacturing to cheaper loca ons in Asia and this created a situa on where exports from U.S. was seen as a challenge. To assist U.S. exports, the U.S. Government through the U.S. & Foreign Commercial Services (FCS) assisted American companies to explore markets for their products and services. In India, there were importers of American products who also felt the need to come together to assist the USG by working on the pull side of the demand and help Indian importers of U.S. products with their import-related problems. The net impact of all these culminated in the forma on of the U.S. India Importer's Council (USIIC). We hope our good work con nues and USIIC becomes more and more visible and help accelera ng the imports from U.S. to India and vice/ versa. Thanks and with warmest regards Nallore Srinivasan 5
