I am..music I am Markus Trudor, a Romanian 35 years old musician. I love people and continuously look for good times, right timing and emotions. Since 2005, my music has been one of the things that I cannot live and breathe without in my life. Whether I am playing on the streets, at a venue, for friends and famly or simply for myself, I give 110% of my heart and soul into this gig. I play a couple of gigs a week. When asked “would I ever stop playing if money never came to me”? I said “When music stops singing to me, is the only time the sound inside of me will stop”. That answer was easy to answer. No! I love what I do. There is a famous quote by Rumi that says “Let the beauty of what you love, be what you do.” I wouldnt have it any other way. Some say get a real job, support your family. I say the ones who bring money in doing a “job” they do not like are the ones truly unhappy. The ones that are really hurting their families due to frustrations, anger, resent- ments and exhaustions. I survive and thrive as well as my family. DO WHAT YOU LOVE, is all I can say.18 Motovaded Magazine

Umphrey’s McgeeUmphrey’s McGee Steve AndersonHouse of Blues Writer & PhotographerSan Diego, Ca Motovadedmagazine.com/March 5, 2015 steve-andersonThe Best Band You Have Never Heard Of!Have you ever wondered why some of the bands you really like, don’t get more airtime on your local radio station? Well, read on about Um-phrey’s McGee, a band who has been playing together for “16 years, performing 100 concerts annually, has released seven studio albums andhas sold more than 3.3 million tracks online”, but hardly anyone has heard them play on their local radio station! How can a band like this beso under-appreciated on the radio?I first heard Umphey’s McGee when I signed up for the digital radio service called Sirius Radio and listened to the Jam Station. UM was a dai-ly player on the Jam Station and I immediately liked their improvisational style of playing and soon watched all of their videos on YouTube. Then I began to wonder; why was a band with great songs like UM not played on my local radio stations? Then it began to dawn on me thatthe problem wasn’t in the quality of their songs….but it was in the length and style of their songs. Their songs (some as long as 10 minutes)don’t fit in well with the shorter song format that the local radio stations favor. One of the co-founders, guitarist Brendan Bayliss, summedit up when he said, “We’re definitely not associated with a three-minute verse-chorus-verse song structure”. For example, on their new album“Similar Skin”, they have included the song “Bridgeless”, which runs for nine minutes. The band, made up of Co Founders Brendan Bayliss on Guitar/Vocals and Ryan Stasik on Bass, Jake Cinninger Guitar/Vocals, Joel CumminsKeyboards/Vocals, Kris Myers Drums/Vocals and Andy Farag on Percussion, (originally formed on the Notre Dame campus in 1997), knewthat their style of music was not going to be in the “pop” category when they started out. According to Ryan Stasik “we truly believed that wecould do exactly what we are doing by combining hard work and communication with a dedication to playing improvisational music together….forever!” And even though they aren’t played on the local radio, they have created fans all over the world with their albums and live shows. They have taken their show to the people and the people have spoken by supporting the band over these last 16 years.A few months later, I saw that UM were coming to The House of Blues in San Diego and I got a Photo Pass to take pictures of the band. Thenight of the concert arrived and I took my place in “the pit” (the area between the barricade and the stage) and snapped picture after pictureas the band played some of the best improvisational music that I have ever heard in San Diego. Their music is like a layer cake versus a flatcake; it may take longer to get through it, but the reward of the combination of flavors is worth waiting for. Song after song, the band startedout with a predictable beat, melody and rhythm only to have it all expand …as if the music was growing and evolving in complexity on itsown. I asked co-founder and bass player Ryan Stasik how he felt the music and energy expands and he said, “It’s all in the power of the music.I can’t explain it.” Entertainment Weekly goes even farther when it called Umphrey’s “musical alchemists, deftly re-configuring sounds fromrock’s vast panoply of styles”.After the show I caught up with the band and told them I wished that their music was played on the radio so more people could hear theirgreat style of music. Stasik replied, “Pop runs the radio and we are not a pop band. Unless Taylor Swift or One Directions covers one of ourtunes, then I think we will continue to be a touring band that doesn’t get much airplay”. So, I asked them what projects are they working onthat will get their music out to the masses and I was handed a sticker that said “THE LONDON SESSION…A Day at Abbey Road Studios”. Iasked them what pulled them across the Atlantic Ocean to record in the studio where the Beatles rehearsed and played and they replied that“it all started with a smart remark and a phone call. The experience was phenomenal and quite amazing to think about everything that hadbeen recorded there. We worked straight thru on a 12 hour day to record 10 tunes for everyone to hear”.Since listening to the LONDON SESSION….A Day at The Abbey Road Studios, my favorite is “I Want You So Bad” a cover of the great Beat-les song…but find out for yourself by clicking on the links below! All of the music and video of Umphrey’s McGee is available online. Start by going to their webpage: www.Umphreys.comThen you can watch and listen to Umphrey’s McGee songs on YouTube at:Like them and follow them on Facebook at: Facebook.com/UmphreysMcgee And finally as a tribute to the band Mike Keneally (Former guitar player for Frank Zappa) calls “one of the best live bands I have heard in the last 10 years”….get out there and attend one of their live shows. And then share the message in all social media outlets that are out there. One person to another and then on and on until we have done what the radio station’s w ouldn’t or couldn’t do….lift up and share the music that WE the fans like!!34 Motovaded Magazine
