Dear Friends, As we write this letter in late March, we are in much different circumstances than we were at the end of 2019, but there are a lot of positives on which to reflect… Thanks to our donors—and a cooperative stock market— we had our best year ever. As you will see in the financial portion of this report, the assets of the Community Foundation increased significantly. Because most of the donations were to create new endowments or to be added to existing endowed funds, those resources will be there to help our neighbors throughout east central Illinois forever. Due to the changes to the tax laws a couple of years ago, Donor-Advised Funds continue to be another great way for donors to take advantage of the laws and to support their favorite churches, universities and nonprofits as an annual donor. Through these funds, and our special project funds, we were able to distribute $1,219,807 to 150 organizations in 2019. This marks the eighth year in a row that we have provided at least $1,000,000 to enhance the lives of the residents of our area. We couldn’t do it without our donors and the great nonprofits in our area. Our Center for Nonprofit Excellence continues to actively engage nonprofit executives and board members. In 2019, we held our initial “Board Bootcamp.” It was a great success and we plan to continue this opportunity to engage board members in the vital roles they play in their organizations. In addition, our Building Better Boards, Executive Director Support Groups and the Community Solutions Incubator continue to pursue reliable and innovative ways to elevate our local nonprofit ecosystem. We continue to be grateful to our loyal donors and our new friends who appreciate the flexibility the funds of the Community Foundation offer and the many ways we can help them realize their charitable intent now and forever.
