The sword stayed in my mind for the next year, but I never researched the skull and crossbones aspect of it. During this time, I was gearing up to get ready for a hospital stay. My brother-in-law, who suffered with failing kidneys and was on dialysis, was in need of a kidney transplant to save his life. I volunteered the year prior and underwent the thorough testing and process to be a living organ donor through University of Maryland. Seven months later, I was surprised to find out I was cleared to be a donor. I was not a direct match for my kin, so we acted as a team and put our names on the National Donor kidney change list. Within one month, I was called, and told they found a matching donor pair and they wanted to do surgery as soon as possible. USHEATHED PAGE 10
