THE UNEXPECTED ADVENTURE ABHIRAMI VISWAM Grade 7 Read about how a 10-year old was lead into a mysterious journey. After lunch, I sat down and started organizing myself to do my homework. Since my favorite subject was English, I decided to start it first. My homework was to write a story using the elements and since I couldn’t think of a suitable story, I laid down on the table and kept on thinking until I decided to finish it after doing the homework of other subjects. While doing so, I heard a loud thud right behind me. When I looked behind, I couldn’t believe my eyes! A prodigious time machine had fallen into my room!

Even though I was flabbergasted, I gradually pushed myself forward towards the time machine and scrutinized it. After this, I was appalled by the turn of events!Unfortunately, I slipped and pressed an enormous red button, which made things worse. The colossal time machine started to move and dragged everything in it like a vacuum cleaner! I tried my best to run away but it gobbled me and my homework and took us to a different world. I was filled with apprehension that I held my homework tightly and closed my eyes. When I leisurely opened my eyes, I was astounded with the world around me. While I stood there nonplussed, I felt something behind me. When I looked behind, I saw a gigantic and fearsome dinosaur, who tried to pounce on me. With terror, I ran so fast that the dinosaur was not seen behind me after sometime. Since it was far away, I decided to hide behind the bushes.

After a while, when the dinosaur came to the spot where I was, I realized something. My homework, which I reserved very carefully, was right in front of the ferocious creature.I couldn’t do anything but watch it eat my valuable homework and go away happily. After it went, I sat there with a feeling of penitence and negligence and started crying. After a while, I heard someone calling me. When I opened my eyes, I saw mom behind me and I was back in my room. She asked me,” Chris, what happened to you? Were you sleeping?”  She was undoubtedly right! Everything, including my homework was there as it was. And you know what! I found a story for my English homework! What I thought was bad actually turned out to be good, am I not right?

DO YOU BELIEVE IN SUPERSTITIONS? Excessively credulous belief a widely held but irritational belief Does it actually bring probability? Or does it bring improbability Why should people believe it? When it is a casual myth Can it concede our desires? Or will it jump into conclusions Alas! There you see people running around in circles thinking about the repercussions of their drawbacks But you know there is someone out there Who will decipher the troubles? But bringing back the beliefs OH no! There goes the same old fashion chain “Don’t do that, something bad is going to unfold Do this; a modified exploit will transpire;” People say 100’s, 1000’s; how repeatedly must I endeavour But nothing has brought me a pleasurable measure Is this some kind of nifty? Or has it brought you some beauty I definitely have no idea Should I believe it or not I think now it’s up to you Do you believe in superstitions? -Nandana Vinod Grade 9

Book review Tales of Mystery and Imagination Author - Edgar Allan Poe Every mystery contains Rohan Rajesh imagination, and every imagination Grade 12 contains a mystery. This is a review of a book I had read recently. The book that I have read is “The Tales Of Mystery and Imagination”, by Edgar Allan Poe. Now Poe was a writer of the 18’s. And by 18’s.. I don’t mean 1918 but far back in the 1800’s. And he is still known for his works even after 150 years past his death. He was considered as the inventor of the ‘detective-fiction genre’. Poe was also applauded for his remarkable work in the ‘horror- fiction genre’. Now, back to the book.., this book contains 10 best short stories of Poe and it's filled with mysteries. I can give you a few of my personal favorites, which I personally liked a lot and I am pretty sure you guys will too.. The first one, “William Wilson”. This story is about a boy who goes to school to find out that there is another boy with his similar name and an equally same figure. As the days pass.. he notices that the boy looks more similar to him and his voice also changes to that of William. He found this very odd and disturbing as he didn’t know what was his aim.

The next one, “The Murders in the Rue Morgue” This is a tale about a mother and a daughter who was horribly murdered in their apartment. But the police has found no evidence against the murderer. Sooner or later, someone comes up from the crowd and solves the mystery. The 3rd story is, “The fall of the house of Usher”.This story takes place when the author visits his childhood friend who now suffers from a mental illness. He lives in an old house living in continual fear of death and far away from human company. Read about the strange occurings at this house. The next one is, “The Stolen Letter” This story is about a letter, not just any letter.. a letter that gives massive political to whoever posseses it. This letter had been stolen and if it had reached in the wrong hands, bad things can happen and I mean really bad things. This letter had been stolen and no one knows where it has been hidden after the robbery. Will they find out where the letter had been hidden ? The 5th one is, “The Barrel of Amontallido”. Amontillado is an expensive wine. And this story is about two young men who had great interest towards wines. But there is this unbeatable hatred between them. And one finds a way to end it all. Were one of them has to face a death situation. And the last one, “The Red Death” This story is about a deadly plague that comes in the form of a humanoid figure, and anyone who looks at it will experience a sudden horrible death. I have really enjoyed reading this book and I am pretty sure you guys will too. So next time you hit the book store, be sure to pick a copy.”Tales of Mystery and Imagination”.

CLEANLINESS IS NEXT TO GODLINESS HAND WASH HAND WASH HAND WASH, you can see and hear these words everywhere. I selected this topic because of the high importance of the above subject during current fearful situation. In this new generation different types of diseases are found in the world which is causing to huge loss of human lives. Many of these diseases we can simply avoid by maintaining good hygiene and by properly washing our hands. Washing your hands properly can help prevent the spread of the germs (like bacteria and viruses) that cause many diseases. Some forms of gastrointestinal and respiratory infections can cause serious complications, especially for young children, the elderly, or those with a weakened immune system. Currently, we are facing very big threat from coronavirus named covid 19 for which no proven vaccine has been found until now. Thousands of people lost their lives around the world. The best way to prevent this disease is to wash our hands frequently at-least 20 secs with soap and water or use alcohol based sanitizer when the above is not available, and avoid touching our face unnecessary. When to wash your hands You should wash your hands thoroughly:   • After using the toilet. • Before preparing food. • Before handling and eating cooked or ready-to-eat food. • Before and after attending to sick children or other family members. • handling rubbish or working in the garden. • After handling animals. • After touching any public areas like elevator button, hand rails, door handles etc.

How to wash your hands properly Wet your hands with clean, running water, turn off the tap. Apply soap and rub well for 20 seconds (or longer if the dirt is ingrained). Rub hands together rapidly across all surfaces of your hands and wrists. Don’t forget the backs of your hands, your wrists, between your fingers and under your fingernails. Avoid wearing rings and watches, as microorganisms can exist under them. Rinse well under running water and make sure all traces of soap are removed. Dry your hands using a clean towel or air dry them It is best to use paper towels (or single-use cloth towel). Hot air driers can be used.   Stay home, wash your hands frequently, and stay safe until the threat is under control.   A CLEAN HAND IS A CARING HAND. Sreelakshmi Santhosh Grade 12 80% of communicable diseases are transferred by touch. Proper handwashing can reduce diarrhea rates by 40%. Touching the face with contaminated hands spreads illnesses like covid 19, pneumonia,  cold, and the flu. Proper handwashing can reduce respiratory infections by close to 20%.

MY SHADOW Oh my shadow,  Who’s not so appealing!  A big black soul, That follows me the whole.   Pretty in the heart, And not in the face. Never guides me through But is with me in my ebbs and flows.   Amongst one of the hundreds who's With me in my ebbs And only the one among the hundred's With me in my flows.   She is with me when I laugh, And with me when I cry.   A big black soul, That follows me the whole.
