ACADEMIC REPORT This Academic Report covers the activities of the University from 16th July, 2018 to 30th June, 2020. Visitor Hon’ble Ms. Justice R. Bhanumati, a Judge of Indian Supreme Court. She is sixth woman to be a Judge of Supreme Court. Earlier, she had served as the Chief Justice of High Court of Jharkhand. She is Visitor of NUSRL, Ranchi Rector Her Excellency Smt. Droupadi Murmu is 8th and the first woman Governor of Jharkhand. She is the first woman and tribal leader to be appointed as a governor in an Indian state. She is Rector of NUSRL, Ranchi. Chancellors Hon'ble Mr. Justice Dhirubhai Naranbhai Patel was appointed as the acting Chief Justice of the High Court of Jharkhand from 10th of June 2017 to 10th August, 2018 and from 24th of May 2019 to 6th June, 2019. He was the Chancellor of NUSRL, Ranchi. Hon'ble Mr. Justice Aniruddha Bose was 12th Chief Justice of High Court of Jharkhand. He was the Chancellor of NUSRL, Ranchi. He is at present Judge, Supreme Court of India. Late Hon'ble Mr. Justice Prashant Kumar was acting Chief Justice of High Court of Jharkhand. He was the Chancellor of NUSRL, Ranchi. C Child Rights Centre for Child Rights (CCR) aims to becomes a center of excellence for Child rights in the state of Jharkhand ,by acting as repository of knowledge related to laws related to child and their procedural implementation, obtaining feedback from the field and understanding of bottlenecks in delivery of justice through action research and by teaching a diploma course for the duty bearers in Juvenile Justice System. The Centre is led by Dr. K Syamala (faculty convener), Mr. Shubham Srivastava (member) and Charu Kriti (member) . yy Restorative justice workshops in CCIs (Baalashray and Premashray) in Ranchi. (17th-19th December, 2018) – Initiating Restorative Justice, victim offender dialoguing and healing in children violating children in CCIs yy CCR in collaboration with UNICEF and Judicial Academy organised training of JJB and SJPU at Capitol Hill, Ranchi.(27 November, 2018) – Enhanced understanding of JJ Act POCSO and their implementation. yy CCR organised a Refresher TOT in collaboration with UNICEF and with support of Judicial academy as a follow up of the TOT organised earlier in September 2018. (19th-20th December, 2018). yy Training of JJB members held at Hotel Le Lac. ( 3 rd-4 th September 2018) – The training helped the JJB members in using principles of diversion, of implication POCSO charges, transferring children to “place of safety” and ensuring its existence. yy State Level Training of Trainers on JJ Act, POCSO and Child Marriage (25th-27th September, 2018) – Creation and Identification of local trainers who could be a State Resource. yy State Level training and review meeting of Principal Magistrates held at [Jharkhand Legal Services Authority] JHALSA, Ranchi. Moot Court Mooting, as an art of argument is crucial to the craft of lawyering. The of the National Law University of Study and Research in Law from its inception in 2011 has only grown by encouraging students to expose themselves in Moot Court Competitions held nationally and internationally. Not only moots but fests, lectures, seminars etc. are also organized for the overall development of the students. MCC is headed by Ms. Priya Vijay along with an energetic and industrious group of faculties and students. The year of 2019 saw some excellent performances in moot court competition. The students performed exemplarily in both national and international arenas. yy In a first of its kind achievement, NUSRL qualified for international rounds of Fifth Prof. N. R. Madhava Menon SAARCLAW Moot Competition, 2019-2020 while also winning the Best Memorial and Best Speaker Award. yy Emerged as the winners in NLUD Insolvency & Bankruptcy Moot Competition 2019 and also winning the Best Speaker Award. yy The Best Memorial award in the prestigious 13th Pro Bono Enviro National Moot Court Competition, 2019, M yy Best Researcher Award in 19th Henry Dunant Memorial Moot Court Competition, 2019 yy Best Speaker Award in 9th Justice P.N. Outreach Activities Centre for Legal Aid The aim of this Centre is to spread legal awareness and give real time effective legal aid to people from the marginalized section of the society. CLAP has conducted several seminars, workshop, programmes, and legal aid campaigns in remote areas of Jharkhand. Quality Quest The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) has been established by the University in May, 2019. The Committee comprises of a Convener, members and the Assistant Registrar (I/c) as an ex-officio member of the IQAC. The objectives of IQAC are to get NAAC Accreditation and to realize the goals of quality enhancement and sustenance. The IQAC has worked towards registration on RUSA portal, CBCS system and Library Management softwares. The Committee is currently overseeing the requirements to register for NAAC. Second Annual Convocation The second Annual Convocation of the University was held on 1st December, 2018. Her Excellency Hon’ble Smt. Draupadi Murmu, Governor of Jharkhand and rector of NUSRL was the Chief Guest and delivered the Convocation Address. Chief Justice Hon’ble Mr. Justice Aniruddha Bose delivered the special address. Padmashree Professor (Dr.) N.R. Madhava Menon graced the occasion, Prof. (Dr.) A.K. Koul and Mrs. Dulari koul, former vice-chancellor NUSRL, Ranchi and NLU Jodhpur was also present on the occasion. Ms. Padma, Examination Officer, NLS Bangalore, Prof. (Dr.) Rambhatla Venkata Rao was also present to advice the University for smooth conduction of Second Annual Convocation 2018. The Hon’ble Members of the General Council, the Executive Council, the Academic Council and the Academic Planning and Development Board also attended the Convocation. yy Hon’ble Mr. Justice Aniruddha Bose presided over the convocation and awarded the degrees to eligible candidates. Tribal Rights Centre for Study & Research in Tribal Rights (CSRTR ) was established in 2013 at National University of Study and Research in Law with the objective of initiating and conducting research study on tribal issues i.e. Land Right, Tribal Ecosystem, Displacement of Tribal in Jharkhand, Livelihood of Tribal and related customary laws.
