What’s New at Camco… Autumn Edition Welcome to the Autumn Edition of “What’s New…”. They say Autumn in Adelaide begins with “Mad March” and that certainly seems the case at Camco. In fact, it seems Christmas was merely a pause for a few days and the rush continued on into the New Year. We have a diverse range of projects currently on our books, ranging in both complexity and size. Pleasingly, the remainder of the financial year and into the early part of 17/18’ looks strong with several large projects carrying over through this period. This solid foundation should be a perfect segue into an electionyear, where the urgency of getting projects out into the public view will no doubt be key. It’s certainly goingto be an interesting, if not exciting time in the Adelaide construction industry. As we say, “bring it on!”…..Chris Goold, DirectorIn-house NewsWe would like to congratulate James Clarke on graduating University in December 2016. James studiedBachelor of Engineering & Civil Construction with honours and has passed with flying colours. In-house News continued...The annual Camco Golf Day Tournament on Friday 10th March at the West Lakes Golf Club went off without ahitch. It was a great networking opportunity for all involved and we have certainly noted for next year that“some of us” need to brush up on our golfing skills. Special mention to Simon Bartosak of DPTI who won bothnearest to the pin and the longest drive with a whopping 300+ meter drive, well done Simon, you mostcertainly put us all to shame. James Clarke and Greg Davey were both teamed with Conrad Mansfield &James Weir of Spotless in the Ambrose style tournament and as a group they came out the overall winners ofthe day with an overall score of only 2 over par.....well done guys! Thanks to all of those who attended andwe look forward to carrying on this annual tradition for many years to come so keep an eye out for nextyear’s invite.Prequalification, Panels & AccreditationCamco is prequalified for conducting works for a number ofentities. CMS Update...The phrase “hit the ground running” is often used in a literal sense to describe forexample, troops dropped into a conflict zone by parachute or people jumping off atrain trying to match the speed so they don’t fall and hurt themselves. Figuratively, itmeans to start something at full speed. That is how I would describe our start to 2017.The momentum from the end of last year continued through the (short) festiveseason and accelerated when we returned in January. From a process perspective, in times of high work volumes and strict deadlines, part of the challenge is tomaintain quality of service while achieving the same high levels of compliance with respect to safety, environment and overall risk management. This challenge is accepted. While it is unfortunate that 2016ended with a relatively minor (but none-the-less relevant) lost time injury, the overall feedback from our clientsover the last 3 months indicates very high levels of satisfaction with our service quality, contract management, safety, environmental compliance, and project collaboration. As I have stated in previous newsletters, by virtue of the work we undertake; civil construction inherently posesrisks to peoples’ safety. Working in an environment where large machines are constantly moving andoperating, public vehicles are driving past the workzone (often carelessly and at much higher speeds thanthose sign-posted for roadworks), holes and trenches are excavated to install new infrastructure components, and difficult physical labour is required, it’s a wonder how we have such low levels of safety incidents. So is it good luck or good management? Definitely the latter. The commitment of our Site Managers and Site Personnel to safety, quality, and environment surpasses all else and is a major contributing factor to our success in the field. Notwithstanding this, the challenge to improve remains. Camco is due for recertification this year in Safety, Quality, and Environment. Our focus is on achieving full compliance with all standards but in particular, meeting the requirements of the revised standards ISO 9001:2015 for Quality, and ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management Systems. I look forward to reporting a favourable outcome on this exercise in future editions. What’s New....Waterfall Gully, Demolition & Bank Stabilisation Stage 1 & 2, Spotless ServicesStage 1: Demolition and soil stabilisation of a land slip on the Utopia Restaurant at Waterfall Gully. The projectscope included the salvage removal of heritage building materials from the building structure, demolition ofthe existing roof, temporary propping to allow safe access inside the demolition zone, soil/rock removal ofslippage debris (approximately 50 tonnes) and making safe the site for resumption of normal operations.Stage 2: The second stage of the Utopia remedial works included; stabilisation of the embankment to safeguard against future slippage and provide a safe environment for members of the public. The project scopeincluded the removal of vegetation from an area of 800m2 above the kiosk building and installation of hightensile mesh pinned to the rock face by 70 soils nails drilled 6m into the exposed rock surface. The entireprocess was constructed using a 200 tonne crane and a “dog box” to drill from and the mesh was pinned byhand with the crew “abseiling” down the embankment. Innovation We are determined to continually enhance the way we operate be it on site or in the office by challenging how we do things to find better, more effective and efficient solutions. Professionalism We constantly strive for and deliver service which will make us our client’s no. 1 choice. This is demonstrated by the following key attributes: Competency | Reliability | Honesty | Integrity | Positivity

Reynella East College, Sports Court Resurfacing, Department of Planning, Transport & InfrastructureConstruction of a new acrylic surface on an existing hard playing surface at Reynella East College. Theproject scope includes the removal of the existing failed surface, construction of a new engineered surface(Rebound Ace) and associated linemarking. The choice of an engineered solution was based on the existingsurface construction. The current playing surface was constructed over “floating” concrete slabs which, under certain weather conditions, would heave and create large gaps between the slabs. The gaps werereflected into the overlaying acrylic surface resulting in a WHS issue. The “Rebound Ace” system utilisescushioned matting with “bond breaking” tape over the construction joints. These un-bonded sections allowthe cushioned surface to move independently of the concrete surface below, thus removing the effect ofreflective cracking and reducing the potential for WHS issues on the playing surface.Kapunda High School, Bitumen Upgrade,Department of Planning, Transport & InfrastructureUpgrade of the existing hardplay surfaces at KapundaHigh School approximately 1500m2. A significantstormwater upgrade was part of the works, this involvedreducing surface flow from down pipes and plumbingthem into the new stormwater system. It also included theupgrade of the school’s main stormwater run, this was dueto the old PVC main being both undersized to cope withthe flows and the existing tree roots penetrating into thePVC main. The existing hard play areas were demolishedand rebuilt, the new design had reduced grades to allowfor a more suitable and flat area for sporting activities. Amixture of asphalt and paving was laid including a core filled retaining wall as part of the upgrade. Theproject was undertaken in January and February which meant that planning and logistics associated whilstworking within an active school during construction had to be adhered to. A significant focus was put onlimiting the impact to the school and handing areas back as they were completed in order to allow safepedestrian egress and access to all buildings as required.

Christies Downs Primary School, Sewer Replacement, Department of Planning, Transport & Infrastructure Reconstruction of the existing failed sewer drainage network and connection to the SA Water system at Christies Downes Primary School. The project scope included relaying approx. 110m of 150mm DWV, and 120m of 100mm DWV through existing bitumen carpark. The new drains were connected to the existing pipework just outside the building line. Removal and replacement of concrete and paved footpaths were required. Due to numerous large roots above the existing SA Water connection we were unable to relay approx. 4m section of pipework. This 4m was internally lined to ensure the integrity of the system and prevent root penetration in future.
