What’s New at Camco… Winter Edition...Winter has certainly arrived! After one of the busiest Autumn’s I canremember in our 17 years in existence, it is great to see thingssettling down into a more routine pattern (minus the electionhysteria!). The end of 2017 and beginning of 2018 has seen ushand over several school term projects, hit a key launch date atthe Tennyson Dunes site in early February and finally get some con-crete down at the Waterfall Gully Walking Trail Upgrade. The run tothe financial year end has been it’s usual “brutal” self with manycouncils getting projects out ahead of the 30 June deadline. Roadreconstructions, stormwater drainage upgrades and several community centre redevelopments are the mainhighlights on our tender board. In the school space, planned hardplay upgrades and pavementmaintenance have come to the fore, and STEM, for Camco at least, is getting into gear. All in all, the 2017-18financial year has been a successful one, and the new financial year ahead at this stage looks very positive. In-house News... As we ease into the cooler months Winter has hit us with some very chilly weather. Since the last issue we have added yet another employee to our ranks. We would like to welcome Ashlee Trimmer to the Camco Family as the new Business Support Officer, taking over from Melanie Lane. Ashlee has a wealth of knowledge in administration bringing over 6 years’ experience from reception, data entry and accounts payable/accounts receivable. Ashlee’s dedication to providing top quality administration support and caring nature will see her flourish within the Camco team.We would also like to congratulate Melanie Lane on her promotion from Business Support Officer to Accountsand FBMS Coordinator. Melanie’s keen eye for detail and quick thinking will see her thrive in such a role whereattention to detail and problem solving are a key factor in ensuring the Accounts and FBMS process runsmoothly.Since the last addition we would also like to congratulate Martin Reid on successfully graduating from Uni SAwith a Bachelor of Civil Engineering. Martin is a shining example of enthusiasm and dedication. Martin sets outto exceed client expectations while delivering exceptional support to the Project Managers by deliveringhigh quality work in a timely manner.
In-house News continued...Along with the new faces, we would also like to recognise the ones whohave been around for a while. Project Manager Mark Hayes celebrated 7years at Camco this month along with Site Manager Phil Downes whoalso celebrated a whopping 15 years this month. We are truly grateful tothose who have chosen to take their professional journey with us and aredelighted to celebrate such milestones with each and every one of them. The Camco family would like to take this opportunity to congratulate first time parents Michael and Karin Bruggemann on the safe and joyous arrival of their beautiful girl Alya Jade Bruggemann born on Friday 20th April. We would also like to congratulate Melanie Lane and Daniel Newsham on the exciting news that they are expecting their first child in November. On Friday 13th April we had our annual golf day tournament and this year it was held at the picturesque Mount Osmond Golf Club. The rain held off and sunshine peered through the clouds for the duration of the Ambrose tournament before bucketing down shortly after getting to the club rooms for lunch & post-game beverages. Special mention to Anthony Flett from Greenhill who took home both the straightest drive and nearest the pin (1) and our very own Martin Reid for winning nearest the pin (2). Ben Parrish and James Weir from Spotless both came away as overall winners on the golden team with Chris Gooldand Martin Reid. Congratulations to all the winners and we hopeto get more people involved next year, as it was a fabulous day. The Administration team were lucky enough to venture out of the office, away from their computers and usual duties to visit the Waterfall Gully to Mount Lofty Trail Restoration Project. It was great to see the site-based team in action and experience first-hand how a project of this complexity is operated with little to no disruption to the existing environment. We are looking forward to the finished product, we may even be brave enough to hike the full trail next time. Keep an eye out for our next instalment to see where the Administration team go next…..half of all the s Keep an eye out for our new look website – coming in 2018!!
Camco Management System (CMS) UpdateNew financial year already? The line between 2017 and 2018 issomewhat blurred given the amount of work ongoing right across theholiday period, into the new year, and right through the first six months. That work requires support in terms of ongoing training, risk assessments, safety audits, document preparation, quality evaluations, and reporting. These activities are aptly delivered collaboratively by the Camco officeteam and site personnel working together to ensure we deliver what wepromise, every time. The combination of office-based and site-based people workingtogether strikes a vital balance between theory and practice and delivers a quality process aimed atstrategic and methodical improvement across all areas of the business. The Camco team’s passion indelivering a superior product and experience is evident in the dedication I see every day especially withrespect to safety, quality and the environment. Our “no-blame” system, gives personnel the confidence to identify and report all risks and incidents without fear of disciplinary action or retribution. This is achieved by focussing on system and process failures rather than any individual’s contribution to an adverse event. “Operator error” is never an outcome of our root cause analyses, which means that on occasions when things don’t quite go to plan, we don’t focus on the negatives but rather approach it as an opportunity to improve our systems. Consequently, reporting has significantly increased in the last 12 months, which has allowed us many opportunities to improve how we go about our business. Our “close call” (commonly referred to as “near miss”) reports have more than doubled in the last 6 months, allowing us the opportunity to minimise the likelihood of recurrence and significantly reduce the magnitude of the potential consequences. This has been a team effort and an excellent introduction into the business for several new personnel that have started work at Camco in the last few months. This focus on behavioural and motivational factors will continue until the end of the year, when we will reviewoutcomes and determine the best approach for transitioning toward the recently released ISO45001Standard.I am also happy to report that our recent independent surveillance audit only identified minor systemnon-conformances, confirming once again the dedication of all staff to meeting all necessary standards.TraineeshipsFurther to our previous report, Camco has again provided work experienceplacements for personnel through a variety of initiatives, one of whom has beenprovided a paid position working on one of our larger subdivision projects. We willcontinue this successful relationship with our clients and training providers with the aimof systematically adding diligent, professional, and dedicated staff to our workforcewho have a genuine interest in a long-term career in civil construction…….Marco Puz, System Manager Innovation We are determined to continually enhance the way we operate be it on site or in the office by challenging how we dothings to find better, more effective and efficient solutions. This creates an environment to lead in innovative thinking and creative problem solving. There is no innovation without taking initiatives – we strive to be one step ahead. Passion We dedicate our energy and aspiration to exceed our clients’ needs and expectations. A successful passionate environment creates trust in confident decisions and positive actions in line with our vision, which reinforces belief in Camco. Professionalism We constantly strive for and deliver service which will make us our client’s no. 1 choice. This is demonstrated by the following key attributes:

What’s New....DEWNR Flows for the FutureThe Flows for the Future Program is a joint AustralianGovernment and South Australian Governmentfunded program that commenced on 30 November2016. The Program aims to restore low flows toimprove catchment health at key locations in theEastern Mt Lofty Ranges (EMLR) and Water ResourcePlan Area (WRPA) as defined in the Murray DarlingBasin Plan. The Program will invest in the design, constructionand installation of low flow devices to facilitate thereturn of low flows to watercourses on predominately private landholdings within the EMLR/WRPA. Securinglow flows will help re-establish more natural flow patterns across catchment areas, contributing to a healthyenvironment, while maximising water for production and the community. In order to deliver this program, request for tender documents were issued in a bid to shortlist companies andultimately form a panel of select contractors. Camco was successful in being awarded a position on thispanel, which will see approximately 500 sites throughout the region have various forms of low flow devicesinstalled across dams and catchments. The projects will be short duration builds, working closely with the locallandowners and community stakeholders to deliver a high quality product with a “value for money” focus. It isanticipated that this work will run through to the end of the 2018-19 financial year.Adelaide TAFE, Crèche Facility, Spotless Services.Construction of a new compliant crèche facility within existing teaching spaces at the Adelaide TAFEcampus.
