What’s New at Camco… Spring Edition “Welcome to the Spring Edition of our What’s New Newsletter. The start of Spring marks a significant time of year for us – yes the weather is improving and giving us hope to salvaging some of the projects hardest hit by the winter rains, but it also marks our anniversary. This year is particularly significant as it marks our 15th year in operation. Whilst many of you have been involved from the very beginning, we have also built many new relationships so I thought it an opportune time to reflect on the journey that we embarked on all those years ago……It was early September 2001, I was driving to our small 40m2 shop front office at St Bernard’s Road, Magill. Wehad spent the previous few days purchasing second hand office furniture from auction houses acrossAdelaide and I was keen to get the office set up and running as we had just been awarded a small watermain re-lay project. The date was in fact September 11th. So immersed in what I was doing, I was oblivious tothe world around, I overlooked the front page of the morning paper showing the twin towers beingdestroyed by terrorists. Once the reality of the situation had actually dawned on me, I recall being veryconcerned about what this would mean for the new business we had just started. Several weeks later,Melbourne Cup Day, we found out that my wife was pregnant with our first child. New business, world underattack and child on the way – what next! Well it turns out that was the easy bit.Over the course of the next 15 years we would see change in business ownership, substantial revenue growth, the size of the team also grew significantly, we expanded into commercial construction to compliment ourcivil backbone, a global financial crisis, worldwide political unrest, recessions, significant construction industrycontraction and record high unemployment in this state. Fortunately, we are still here and going strong!Fortunate also that so many people that have been involved from the very early days are still here too.Funnily enough, when we talk about those early days we always reflect positively on them. The thought ofwhat lay ahead was exciting. Today, whilst different in many ways, there is still plenty of optimism about thefuture and I am looking forward to sharing the stories of the next 15 years with many of you on our 30thAnniversary. Thanks to all of you who took a chance and supported us back then and continue to do so now.Happy Birthday Camco!”…..Chris Goold, DirectorIn-house NewsWe would like to welcome the newest member to the Camco family, Melanie Laneas our new Administration Assistant. Melanie brings over 8 years administrationexperience and has a strong background in construction, mining, oil and gas. We areexcited to have Melanie on board and wish her all the very best at Camco. Melanie has been welcomed into the Administration team as a replacement for Administration Officer Lori Kitson-Currie, as her and her husband Jarrod are expecting their first child in November 2016. Congratulations are also in order for labourer Jake Friend and his partner Emma on the safe arrival of Ivy Rose.We would like to also congratulate Sam Piotrowski on his new appointment as Project Manager at Camco.Sam has been with us since August 2012 in the capacity of Project Engineer. Sam has seamlessly merged intohis new role and we wish him all the best. And finally, in line with our 15th Anniversary we would like to make a special mention to Site ManagerMalcolm Hurst. Malcolm has been with Camco from the very beginning and we would like to congratulatehim on 15 years of service. Thanks for all of your hard work and dedication over the years Malcolm!

In the CommunityDuring the month of August, Camco once again supported theJeans for Genes campaign. A national event, aimed at supportingthe work of Children's Medical Research Institute whotirelessly research genetic defects and childhood diseases in orderto give kids around the world a better chance of a healthy, happyfuture. Our campaign was a huge success with Camco kindlydoubling the donation total. Also of note this quarter is the employment of 4 new personnel in association with Renewal SA, through its Training and Employment Initiative. This initiative was established in 2008 as a community training and employment model, to maximise community and social inclusion benefits from Renewal SA urban renewal activities. Now known as theWorks Program, this initiative was designed to produce work-ready candidates for industry employment.Participants gain valuable experience working on real infrastructure projects within their communities andaround the immediate area. The 4 candidates participating in the Works Program are assigned to 2 separate projects currently underwayand will continue in those roles until the projects are completed. Camco’s commitment to providing workexperience and onsite training assists clients to meet their responsibilities under the South Australian IndustryParticipation Policy and provides participants with valuable “hands-on” skills.CMS Update...Further to my comments in the last newsletter, a recent review of incidentdata revealed that Camco has in fact significantly reduced the incidenceof damage to underground infrastructure. The frequency and severity ofservice strikes is significantly lower than previous years, confirming thecommitment of all Camco personnel to process improvements, especiallyin terms of consulting “Dial Before You Dig” plans and engaging servicelocators before any excavation work.I am also pleased to report that there were no significant work related injuries and no lost time injuries in the2015/16 financial year. This means we have achieved 2 years without a lost time injury. My congratulations goto all the Camco site personnel for their ongoing commitment to working safely. The graph below shows thetrend for injuries by type, all of which are decreasing Marco Puz, Systems Manager

Withgentle rolling hills and a tree-lined creek that capture the essence of the “country atmosphere”Many of the allotments in the development are elevated, making the most of the stunning views. Great carewas taken to retain as much character of the natural landscape as possible, which made this build particularlychallenging as the scope included a 5m high 2,500m3 earth mound in the creek acting as a stormwaterdetention and service crossing over the creek. The project scope also included bulk earthworks, sewerconstruction, sewer pump station which was built into the side of the gully in bluestone rock, stormwaterinfrastructure, new water main, kerbing, pavement, common service trenching, electrical infrastructure, NBNpipes and pits and public lighting.Environmental protection measures were needed to control the silt runoff that could have potentially run intothe creek. Camco installed silt fencing and hay bale sediment barriers, which worked particularly well duringthe heavy rain events that we experienced during the winter months.

What’s New continued....Narnungga Car Park, Mile End, City of West TorrensCamco was engaged to re-landscape the Narnungga Park, adjacent to JamesCongdon Drive, Mile End. The projectscope included demolition of existing pavements and drainage structures, careful management and balance of existing materials onsite during bulkearthworks in order to increase the grade of the site and to ensure no additionalfill material was carted offsite. The landscaping components consisted of timberbridge construction over stormwater swales, soft landscaping to garden andcement treated footpaths, granular pavements, re-alignment of park accessroute and irrigation.Butterworth Road, Stormwater Drainage, City of OnkaparingaConstruction of a new stormwater outlet drain to the beach at Seaford. The existing outlet pipe and headwallhad failed. Our project scope was to directional bore of twin 450mm HDPE pipes down the cliff face andapprox. 27% grade, construct a new retention basin including new precast concrete junction pits. The outletchannel was reshaped and rock pitching and sand bag weirs were installed to help reduce erosion damage. All the works were complete whilst keeping the existing system online, during the wet Adelaide winter.Cooke Terrace Carpark, Wayville, Adelaide ShowgroundsThe existing site on Cooke Terrace had been used as a stockpile location and overflow carpark for manyyears. This project involved formalising the carparking by means of new hardstand pavements. The scopeincluded earthworks, drainage, electrical and communication upgrade for lighting and security, granularpavement construction, concrete kerbing, fencing and brick paving. There was a section of the pavementunder some existing large gum trees that was constructed using “Ecotrihex” a permeable pavement to assistin maintaining the health of the trees, whilst maximizing the useful carparking space.
