What’s New at Camco… Summer Edition...Merry Christmas and welcome to our Summer Edition of “What’sNew?”. This time of year, also marks the anniversary of the “birth” ofCamco and it never fails to make me think back on the “old” days. This year is our 16th, and haven’t things changed? Faxes and Nokia1300’s have been replaced with emails, smart phones and socialmedia. Fortunately, not everything has changed – I only need totake a look at the long service leave liability on the balance sheet towork out that many members of our team have taken the long (andhopefully rewarding) journey with us. The new faces are great to see,and we hope they will also become long term members, but the old faces are very reassuring in a world ofconstant change. Despite all the new age technology, there is something comforting about reflecting on thejourney with those that have shared such a big part of it with you. This extends also to clients andsubcontractors, many of whom have also experienced the changes with us. Growth aside it remains thecornerstone of our values at Camco to maintain the personal, “family” feel where the human side takesprecedence over the hustle and bustle of the corporate world. To all of you that have shared this journey, beit for a short stint or the whole nine yards, thank you. Have a Merry Christmas and a safe and prosperous NewYear. Looking forward to seeing you all in 2018!.…..Chris Goold, DirectorIn-house News... Prequalification, Panels & Accreditation...As outlined in the previous Newsletter, Camco’s Quality, Safety, and Environment Management System wasdue for recertification this year. Given that the existing Standards for Quality and Environment were updated, and new Standards released in 2015, we chose to have our CMS assessed against those new Standards.I am pleased to report that, apart from a few minor non-conformances, our CMS has been successfullycertified to ISO 9001:2015 (Quality Management Systems) and ISO 14001:2015 (Environmental ManagementSystems). Of course, we also retained our certification to AS/NZS 4801:2001 (OH&S Management Systems). Allthree certifications were renewed for a further three years until 2020.Given that a new International Standard for OH&S (ISO 45001) is due for publication next year, we are in theprocess of assessing our Health and Safety System for compliance to that Standard. The aim is to achievecertification to ISO 45001 (once it is published) within 3 years.Camco is prequalified for conducting works for a number ofentities. CMS Update...Key Performance IndicatorsIt is pleasing to report that the financial year ended without further safety incidents.Unfortunately, we have experienced another lost time injury since that time, which is notserious but an injury none-the-less. Consequently, as we move into the new year, there willbe a renewed “back to basics” focus on hazard identification and risk assessment. This willbe approached from a behavioural perspective, the aim of which is to identifyknowledge, attitudes, and motivational factors, and to reinforce core safetyperformance.TraineeshipsIn the last Newsletter we reinforced our commitment to providing employment opportunities, especially topeople who have a genuine interest in long-term employment in the civil construction industry. Indeed, two ofour current field staff commenced with Camco as trainees through Renewal SA’s, Training and EmploymentInitiatives and more recently, a similar initiative through the City of Playford. On this note, I would like to congratulate Sharon Hummel, who was nominated for the Playford Alive “Local Heroes Award”. Sharon came to Camco as a trainee on a six-week placement and has proven to be a valued member of our civil construction team for the last 6 months. Camco will continue to partner with clients and Civil Train SA on these valuable initiatives and we look forward to the next round. …….Marco Puz, System ManagerInner Sanctum...
