SIKKIMESE STREET FOODS MOMOS THUKPA SAEL ROTI SHA PHALEY GUNDRUK PHAGSHAPA
❖ Steamed Momos from the east Indian MOMOS state of Sikkim are delicious and easy to make too! ❖ Momos are usually served with fiery Sikkimese tomato chutney and a soup called Thukpa.
❖ In Sikkim, Thukpa is a dish that THUKPA is popular across all communities and many people like to pair it with Momos. ❖ Thukpa is a staple food in every household in Ladakh as well.
SAEL ROTI ❖ Sael roti is traditional homemade ring-shaped rice bread originating from Nepal which is sweet in taste. ❖ It is mostly prepared during Dashain and Tihar, widely celebrated Hindu festivals in Nepal and Sikkim and Darjeeling regions in India. ❖ It is known as Shinghal in Kumaon
SHA PHALEY ❖ Shabhaley, also known as sha phaley, is a Tibetan dish of bread stuffed with seasoned meat and cabbage. ❖ It is then fashioned into semi-circular or circular shapes and which according to regional variations is either deep fried or pan fried like pot stickers.
GUNDRUK ❖ Gundruk is a fermented leafy green vegetable and a popular food in Nepal. ❖ It is claimed to be one of the national dishes. ❖ It is popular not only in Nepal but also in Gorkhali or Nepalese diaspora households worldwide.
PHAGSHAPA ❖ Phagshapa is a strip of pork fat which is stewed with dry chillies and radish. ❖ A spicy and tangy endeavour of this Sikkimese dish. ❖ Well for vegetarians, there is no substitute for pork in this dish so there is nothing much you can do.
