\"Focus on the journey, not the destination. Joy is found not in finishing an activity, but in doing it.” Learning is the process of constantly updating in an ever-changing world. The first five years of a child’s life is critical to their development because this is when they experience the most rapid changes of their lives. Children develop rapidly during this time; physically, intellectually, emotionally, and socially. Also, the earliest years of a child’s life are key to predicting ultimate success in their school and personal life. The period from Nursery until the beginning of Class 2 in a mainstream school is called the Foundation Stage of Learning. All children should be given the opportunity AMINA USMAN to experience the very best possible start to their education. Early Years Coordinator Learning at our school is based on the fundamental principles of life; teaching children to be courageous, confident, disciplined, responsible, and loyal. Education at our school provides a foundation for a lifetime of learning and is great fun too. Teaching at TNS Beaconhouse is a two-way process; where the teachers first try and understand each individual child so as to provide them with the easiest and most adaptable techniques and a conducive ambiance for them to learn what is delivered. We believe in teaching by following the child. Today the role of a school is not only to pursue academic excellence but also to empower its students to be lifelong learners. We try to provide the best possible environment for the healthy development of young children by providing a carefully planned and structured environment in which the child grows and learns in a natural way. I also take this opportunity to thank my peers and the parents of our students for having bestowed their faith and confidence in me. Your faith in me is my driving force. I would like to end with the words of Albert Einstein – “Imagination is more important than knowledge, for while knowledge defines all that we currently know and understand, imagination points to all we might yet discover and create.” This yearbook is a snapshot of the highlights and memorable events of the year, and a record of the students and staff members who formed the TNS Beaconhouse community in 2022-23. I hope it will remind everybody of good times with friends, the year groups we met, our diverse cultures, sports, performing arts events; our year of learning and striving to be better in all that we do. PY has achieved success in many diverse areas in the academic year 2022-23. PY community members consistently demonstrated hard work and determination. However, though there are many attributes we displayed every day, there are two qualities that PY has had to demonstrate that makes all of us unique: adaptability and perseverance. SADIA SALEEM These two qualities have been tested this year and when times were Primary Years Coordinator hard, we adapted to meet the changes and persevered when it became challenging. To those who have, directly or indirectly enriched the lives of our students this year; the teaching and support staff, the subject experts and the parents, I extend my sincere thanks and best wishes. To those returning next year I look forward to seeing you back in August, refreshed and ready to grab another year of opportunities and challenges. 5
\"There is an art of reading, as well as an art of thinking, and an art of writing.\" Isaac D'Israeli The quote I live by. After spending almost, a decade as a PBL practitioner, I took on the post of literacy coordinator for EY and PY in 2022. I would like to give you a glimpse of what the year 2022–2023 looked like. The students from Reception to Grade 5 were introduced to a reading NAJVA FARID programme called myON. Effective implementation of the programme was administered across both departments. Support clubs were designed Literacy Coordinator based on individual student needs. Another very successful Power of Words\" event was carried out with more than 100 participants from the early and primary years. This year, we were glad to have parents volunteer for read aloud sessions. It was great to be part of several successful literacy integrated projects and the international kangaroo linguistic competition! It's always encouraging to see initiatives that promote literacy and language skills. The involvement of homeroom teachers in preparing students for the exams is a positive development as well, as it allows for more personalized attention and support for the students. Such projects and competitions not only enhance language proficiency but also foster a spirit of healthy competition and learning. Student-led events included the tricky trivia quiz and story-reading sessions. The year ended with a very exciting creative writing competition across EY, PY, and MYP. I was grateful to read and provide feedback on all entries and celebrated with winners at the national and provincial levels. Looking forward to another productive & eventful year at TNS. Throughout the school year, our students had the opportunity to ALINA AJMAL enhance their numeracy skills through a variety of engaging activities. From weekly math challenges to hands-on measuring experiments, Numeracy Coordinator our numeracy program not only provided students with a strong foundation but also encouraged them to think creatively and critically. Our students enjoyed activities such as 'International Kangaroo Mathematics Contest’ and 'Mental Math Rockstars', which tested their ability to solve problems under pressure, while fostering teamwork and collaboration. We are incredibly proud of the strides our students have made in numeracy and are excited to see the continued growth of their skills in the years to come. 6
Message From Our MYP, AHSD & DP TEAM I loved my time at TNS. I received more high fives and handshakes in 6 months at TNS than I have in the last 6 years working in Malaysia, Brazil and Singapore combined. TNS students are welcoming and appreciative and generally wonderful. TNS staff as well were a joy to work with. It should be little surprise that students who are welcoming and appreciative and generally wonderful have nurturing teachers who are welcoming and appreciative and generally wonderful. While my lasting memory of the students will be handshakes and high fives and warm smiles - for the teachers it will be LENNAN MACDONALD their sincere gratitude and appreciation for every small piece of support MYP Manager or encouragement or recognition. While there was so much worthy of TNS DHA & Gulberg encouragement and recognition, in terms of good work being done now in classrooms across TNS, it is the desire for support and guidance in doing good things better that gives me the most hope in the future of TNS. For even more than nurturing the growth of its students - it is through embracing the personal and professional growth amongst its teachers that allows good schools to become great schools. I would like to offer special thanks and more shukriya’s than this letter will hold to Sir Hamza and Mr. Riley for their daily support and appreciation and sharing in the sacred work of supporting students and teachers. You were a blessing. I wish you all the best as I return to Canada and embrace my new role as a grandfather - and sincerely hope our paths cross again in the future. It was a joy and an honor to be a part of the TNS family and I too am filled with gratitude and appreciation for my time amongst you all. Shukriya, shukriya and shukriya. Thank you, thank you and thank you. ''This year at TNS, we have had an eventful and successful year in the Middle Years Programme (MYP). The highlight of the year was the MYP evaluation, which went remarkably well. The evaluation process allowed us to reflect on our teaching practices and ensure that we are delivering high-quality education to our students. The positive outcome of the evaluation is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our teachers and staff. Another significant milestone this year was the introduction of the MYP Science Fair, a first in the history of our school. The science fair provided an excellent platform for our students to showcase their innovative ideas and scientific prowess. It was inspiring to witness the creativity HASSAN HAMZA ZAIDI and critical thinking skills displayed by our students. The success of the MYP Science Fair has paved the way for future events, and we look Middle Years Programme forward to witnessing more groundbreaking projects from our students Coordinator in the coming years. Additionally, our Grade 10 students successfully completed their final MYP exams this year. These exams marked the culmination of their MYP journey and served as a significant milestone in their academic growth. While we celebrate our achievements this year, there are always areas for improvement. The evaluation process has provided us with valuable insights and recommendations for enhancing our MYP curriculum and pedagogy. We will use these recommendations to refine our teaching methods, incorporate innovative approaches, and create an even more enriching learning environment for our students''.7
As we approach the end of another remarkable academic year, it is with great pride that we reflect upon our achievements at TNS. The past year has been incredibly rewarding, marked by a series of significant milestones and accomplishments. One of the most notable highlights was the successful completion of three international accreditation visits. These visits not only reinforced the quality of education we provide but also served as a testament to our unwavering commitment to excellence. Each visit presented its own challenges and rigorous assessment processes, but our dedicated staff rose to the occasion, showcasing the remarkable achievements and progress made throughout the year. ABEERA KHAWAJA The Middle States Association accreditation visit was particularly American High School Diploma demanding and reflected our utmost dedication and hard work. We Coordinator are thrilled to announce that the visit resulted in the remarkable news of TNS being awarded the accreditation to offer the American High School Diploma. This recognition speaks volumes about the high standards TNS upholds and further validates our commitment to providing a world-class education that prepares our students for success globally. The visiting team observed that at TNS we value the community, prioritizing the needs and well-being of our students. With a student-centric ideology and a focus on fostering relationships among students, staff, parents, and school leadership, TNS remains steadfast in upholding its vision and mission through an exemplary school culture. By implementing the MSA recommended strategies in the upcoming academic year, we will continue to provide an enriching educational experience that empowers our students. Looking forward to another successful year of growth and collaboration. Congratulations Class of 2023, on reaching this momentous occasion of graduation! Taking care of your mental health and finding a harmonious equilibrium will contribute to your overall achievements. RASHID KHALID The demanding rigor of the DP with exposure to a holistic education have Diploma Programme prepared you for the challenges that lie ahead. The international mindedness Coordinator we have developed will undoubtedly give you an advantage, if not a head start, in university. Embrace this advantage and continue to broaden your horizons, both academically and culturally. I extend my best wishes for the upcoming release of our results on the 6th of July. May your hard work and dedication be rewarded and may this be the beginning of your many successes. For the Batch of 24, remember that utilizing summer break time effectively is crucial to maintaining a stress-free DP2. Complete your Extended Essay and prepare diligently for the September exams. Stay focused, stay motivated, and success will follow. And to the Batch of 25, as you approach the selection of your subjects for the Diploma Programme, choose wisely. The key to a successful DP lies in selecting subjects that align with your interests and strengths. Consider your future goals and aspirations as you make these important decisions. Once again, congratulations, Class of 2023! I have no doubt that each and every one of you will 8 go on to achieve remarkable things. May your journey be filled with joy, growth, and endless opportunities.
Message From Our HEAD GIRL It has been an honor to serve as Head Girl at TNS Beaconhouse for the past year. Collaborating with members of the Student Council to address issues brought to our notice has not only been fun, but also immensely fulfilling. I have witnessed various styles of leadership, approaches to problem solving and have seen students bring out the best in one another along the way. I can say without hesitation that TNS has equipped me with skills that SEREEN YUSUF I will inevitably use in college and in life beyond. One of the most important things I’ve learned is how to build upon the relationships I’ve made at this institution as I go forward. Additionally, the resilience, courage, and ability to adapt that TNS has inculcated within me will no doubt be useful when I’m faced with life challenges. The role of Head Girl is no doubt a challenging one, and there were some tough moments at the beginning of the year. Undoubtedly, balancing the responsibilities of Head Girl with other extracurricular activities and DP coursework is no easy feat. However, the journey was certainly rewarding. Learning how to prioritize and effectively communicate will serve me well in my journey beyond school. Although it has been an extremely busy year, it was definitely a fantastic experience. Hosting CareerFest, leading assemblies and delivering a speech at the DP graduation were just some of the highlights of my time as Head Girl. The real joy, however, was having students of all ages being inspired by my journey and asking for advice or suggestions, often right in the middle of the hallway! The role certainly keeps you on your toes, but the hard work is worth it in the end. I feel extremely privileged to have had this opportunity and wish next year’s Head Boy and Head Girl success. HEAD BOY I can’t believe I’m leaving the institution I’ve called home for the past 13 years. I’m excited about what’s ahead, but I cannot be more grateful to this school and everything it’s given me. It’s been an honor to represent this student body, but I promise my journey with TNS won’t end here, I’ll be bragging about the experiences I’ve shared to everyone. One of my biggest fears has been peaking in high school. Or at least I’ve thought about it for the past year. This fear is why I’m so certain TNS has been my favorite place for the past 4 years – I wouldn’t fear peaking here if I wasn’t happy. And as much as I hope I’ll be more content in the future, it’s difficult to top the joy TNS has given me: the opportunities it allowed me and most importantly the friends it let me make. I am forever in awe of the people I spent time with here which is SHAFAY ASGHAR amazing for a school in Lahore. Obviously, this school has its flaws. Every place does. But I’m so glad I was stuck with the flaws of this institution and not any other. I hope this school and the depth of character it holds within its walls becomes accessible to more than just very privileged people like me. I’m going to miss all of you. I love everyone here, and I really wish I could stay. 9
CAREER COUNSELING WARDA KHAN CAREER COUNSELLOR As this academic year drams to a close, I would like to take a moment to express my gratitude towards all my students, colleagues and mentors for an incredible journey together and for making it truly remarkable. Throughout the year, students continued to inspire me with their dedication, resilience and commitment to achieve their preset goals. Their willingness to explore new possibilities have been a constant source of motivation not only for them but for me as a counsellor too. The unwavering eagerness to break barriers in academia was indeed something I relished witnessing in each one of them. The application cycle started in October for some of our students who wanted to apply for Oxford, Cambridge and Medicine. Honestly, it was reassuring to see how these students were well research and knew what they wanted. Making my job, not only easy but much more interactive and fun. Next in line were the US ED deadlines, which were daunting to say the least, but we made it through them even though the 3 am tweaking essays and application revisions isn’t something I miss a lot! Needless to say, the journey had only started here and followed suit were the Canadian, UK, Australian and continuing Pakistani Universities deadlines. I always tell my students that education is not only about textbooks and grades, but also a holistic experience that encompasses growth, strong interpersonal skills and the cultivation of solid work ethic. Therefore, I always ask them to engage in extracurricular, join clubs and societies that align with their interests as these will not only enrich their profile but are essential life skills that will augment their leadership skills, teamwork and time management. As this academic year starts, I am already excited about planning, exploring different career paths for students and guiding them prudently for internships and engaging in various extracurricular by having one-on-one sessions, creating various workshops for essay curation and profile building sessions. I am enthralled already to start another exhilarating journey with full fervor. 10
We are thrilled to share extraordinary news regarding the university acceptances of our exceptional students. Their hard work, dedication and exceptional achievements have truly paid off. Some of our incredible university acceptances of our students include; Columbia University, Brown University, New York University, University of Toronto, Durham University, UCL, King’s College London and LUMS among many others. We have no doubt that these bright stars will make positive impact in their respective fields and we await eagerly for their contributions to the society as their next big milestone after stepping into Universities. The world is open for them to explore! 11
CREATIVITY, ACTIVITY, SERVICE (CAS) FASEEHA KHAWAJA CAS COORDINATOR Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) is one of the core components of the IBDP. It is considered the bridge between academics and the real world, where students engage in numerous experiences of their choice. Students at TNS DHA were involved in an array of activities to ensure the development of the seven learning outcomes. CAS is primarily about undertaking new initiatives and reflecting upon them to develop international mindedness. This enables lifelong learning, in line with the IB Mission, ATL Skills & IB Learner Profile Attributes. Students were able to balance the academic rigor & challenges by undertaking multiple initiatives throughout the year, demonstrating efficient time management skills. Through Service Action (SA) they became more caring & compassionate towards their community. We started the year off with our CAS & SA orientation, jumping straight into multiple inter school events, including the MUNS, LAS Artfest & the World Scholars Cup - for which we are participating in the Global Round in June. Students organized & executed multiple events in- house throughout the year, such as the TEDx, TLF, Monologue, ESS Talks & the Swimming Gala. We engaged with the environment through the Go Green Society Plantation Drive, Serving food at the Rizq Dastarkhwan, promoting Art For Change with DNA & working with the students at Deaf Reach to name a few. Given its nature, CAS is open to interpretation and relative for each student and the meaning they bring to it. Similar to working in the dark with our shining candles, that helped us find each other and collectively ignited a fire to keep all our ambitions warm. It has been an honour & a pleasure to have guided & mentored all the students to help them actualise their personal dreams & ambitions. 12

WELLBEING COUNSELLING DEPARTMENT WELLBEING COUNSELLARS EY/PY MYP/DP The TNS Counseling Department has been actively engaged in supporting students' social and emotional needs to foster resilience and personal skills development. Throughout the year, a range of exciting initiatives have been implemented, creating a nurturing environment for all students. Mindfulness Activities Students were taught mindfulness in classes, which helps them become more aware and relaxed. Mindfulness is a type of meditation where you focus on being fully aware of your sensations and emotions in the present moment, without judging or interpreting them. It involves techniques like deep breathing, visualization and other practices to relax the body & mind to reduce stress. Anti-Bullying Week Anti-Bullying Week was celebrated from 14th to 18th November 2022, aimed to raise awareness and promote the theme of \"What's your superpower?\". Activities such as poster making, friendship chain, role-playing, workshops and a wellbeing fair were organized to empower students and encourage them to stand up against bullying. To enhance teacher support, workshops covering topics like pastoral care, boundaries, behavioral indicators, counseling protocols and effective communication were conducted. These sessions equipped teachers with valuable tools to better understand and assist students. The Wellbeing and Coping Skills Fair, The Wellbeing and Coping Skills Fair, held on 13th April 2023, focused on nurturing students' mental health. It included stations on Art Therapy, Mindfulness, Nature Walks, and Attention & Focus Games, providing students with opportunities to showcase their creativity and resilience. Grade 6 students particularly excelled in demonstrating their social and emotional skills during the event. Personal Social Physical Education(PSPE) played a crucial role in preparing students for life's challenges. LEARNING SUPPORT PROGRAMME DR. SAJEELA HAROON SEN COORDINATOR What a year! It wouldn’t be wrong of me to say that the academic year of 2022-2023 has been a very enlightening year for the department as well as the team. Our journey is public knowledge through our school’s social media pages. However, I want to take this opportunity to talk about the amazing accomplishments we had like celebrating neurodiversity, hosting the first ever parent-led support group and organizing a student-led fun-fair for the students of Hum Mashal e Rah. Internally, the department had collaborations with the school’s other departments where the idea of teaching job skills was introduced in the life skills programs. The enrolled students had 2–3-month internships in various departments to give them firsthand experience of working independently. Inclusion is a confusing concept and if not done right, it can be detrimental, but TNS is proud to say that all external evaluation teams highly praised the LSP department for promoting inclusivity and diversity. Instead of asking the child to fit in; we as a school community introduced modifications and accommodations in the environment to suit the child. All in all, the combined efforts of the TNS family made this a successful year and we hope to continue with the same commitment and enthusiasm in the coming years. Autism Awareness Week Globally, April has been celebrated as the Autism Awareness Month. At TNS, our Autism Awareness Campaign began in 2017 where we were raising awareness for autism as an ability and acclaim those who have it. In 2019 we conducted a campaign for awareness at TNS where the students took a lead and displayed artwork showing the beauty of Autism. In 2021, we continued with our mission with the concept of transitioning to acceptance. Moving on, 2022 focused on approaching not only Autism, but Neurodiversity as a whole! Fun-fair for Hum Mashal-e-Rah Students This year we continued with the same concept of approaching Autism but this time it extended outside the boundaries of TNS. The students of grade 5 hosted a fun fair for the underprivileged special needs students of Hum Mashal-e-Rah and engaged with them in various activities focusing on self-regulation skills. The event was a huge success where the grade 5 students applied their learned knowledge of interacting with neurodiversity outside their school body, promoting inclusivity at community level. Parent support group TNS Beaconhouse DHA hosted the first ever parent support group meeting to support inclusivity and diversity. The parents shared their experiences with each other which were heartwarming and heart wrenching at the same time. It was highly praised by all and will be continued in the coming years. 18
