CHEMSAIN HRD SDN BHD OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY & HEALTH AT WORKPLACE TRAINING SCOPE : Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) is an interdisciplinary activity concerned with the prevention of occupational risks inherent to each work activity. The main aim is the promotion and maintenance of the highest degree of safety and health at work, therefore creating conditions to avoid the occurrence of work accidents and ill health. The achievement of this desirable state of safe working conditions implies that employers must perform risk assessment regarding safety and health at work, and must decide if actions are required and what kind of OSH measures should be implemented. According to the International Labour Organization, OSH encompasses the social, mental and physical well-being of workers, that is the “whole person”. Therefore, OSH is not only avoiding work accidents or occupational diseases, but the result of taking actions to identify their causes (hazards existent at workplace) and the implementation of adequate preventive OSH control measures. COURSE OUTLINE: This course will teach participants to identify, utilize and understand their responsibility towards statutory regulation and requirement in OSH. The Program ensures that the participants understand the overview of OSH and learn “how” accident occurs at workplace. This program is relevant in creating awareness for themselves as well to create an organization par excellence with proactive employees, precise team work and an effective and cohesive work environment to lead in their respective industry. CHEMSAIN HRD SDN BHD OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY & HEALTH AT WORKPLACE TRAINER PROFILE OF DR. SYED ABDUL HAMID B. SYED HASSA DR. Syed Abd Hamid Bin Syed Hassan possesses a PhD of MechanicalEngineering (Industrial Engineering) and Master of Technology Management. He also holds a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering. He started his service with The Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH/JKKP) since 1990 as an Assistant Director and has spearheaded all units such as the Industrial Hygiene (Head of Section), Major Hazard (Deputy Director), Investigation and Prosecution (Head of Section), Analysis and Process (Head of Section), Building Construction (Head of Section) and also being appointed as a Director of International Policy and Research Development at DOSH Headquarters, Putrajaya. His duty covered a very wide scope including giving occupational safety and health (OSH) talks and training to the government bodies, higher institutions, National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), NGOs, companies and factories around Malaysia. Besides, he has been given the responsibility as the coordinator of promotion and training in the Department. Apart from that, some of his main duties in DOSH were to carry out the safety inspections and registration of factories and machinery, building construction, boilers, unfired pressure vessels, hoisting machine, OSH audit, accident investigation, major hazard installation, industrial hygiene inspection and others. He also conducted interviews for steam engineer, major hazard competent person, safety & health officer, engine drivers and operator crane. He is a Competent Person for Noise, CHRA Assessor, Hygiene Technician 1 (chemical monitoring), Hygiene Technician II (LEV), Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Assessor, Steam Engineer, Safety and Health Officer (SHO), Confined Space Trainer and OHSAS 18001 Lead Auditor. He has also registered as a trainer in NIOSH and HRDF. He has involved in research including the Behaviour Based Safety (collaborated with NIOSH for five years under OSH-MP15), OSH accident cost calculation (collaborated with UKM for two years), OSH in plantation sector (collaborated with UUM), OSH in metalworking sector (collaborated with UTM), Mass Rapid Transportation (collaborated with KLIA College), and health hazard control (collaborated with NIOSH under OSH-MP2020). He has attended in various seminars and workshops organized by the department and private sectors in OSH national and international level. With more than 26 year experience, he is one of the most senior officers in DOSH Malaysia and now he has become the main source of reference by his colleagues in the department, local institutions and various industries.
