CHEMSAIN HRD AIR POLLUTION & HEALTH TRAINING SDN BHD COURSE OUTLINE This course will include both lectures and discussions on the theoretical aspects of air pollution and its health e ects, as well as practical on the monitoring and laboratory analysis of air pollutants. It encompasses an introduction to the physical and chemical processes that contribute to air pollution, as well as the meteorological phenomenon that influence the dispersion and fate of air pollutants. It also looks into the e ect of pollution from the epidemiological and public health perspectives. Both the acute and chronic public health e ects of particulate, gaseous and chemical air pollutants will be discussed. Health risk and impact assessment of air pollutants based on the USEPA methodology will also be deliberated. Di erentiation between carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic air pollutants will be elaborated. The course lectures will be delivered by two experienced and prominent environmental health scientists in the region who have conducted research and training on air pollution and health both locally and internationally. The practical on air pollution monitoring and laboratory analysis will be conducted by experiences scientists and technicians of Chemsain Konsultant Sdn. Bhd. STUDY OBJECTIVES At the end of the Course, students should be able to : - List the sources and types of air pollutants. - Explain how meteorology influence the transport and fate of air pollutants. - Di erentiate between outdoor and indoor air quality. - Describe the environmental and health impacts of air pollution. - Understand the toxic mechanisms of air pollutants and how to assess their health impacts. - Perform preliminary desktop health risk assessment of air pollutants. - Explain the principles of air pollution management. - Describe the basics of air pollutant monitoring, sampling and analysis. COURSE DURATION This is a 2 ½ day course comprising of 2 days of lectures, exercises, and discussions, followed by a half day of demonstration and practical.
