‘Pondering Upon Pollutants’ Deriving question 2:How has construction affected the Quality of Air?
Objectives: After going through this activity we will be able to : ● Define Air Pollution. ● Know about Air Pollutants ● Survey and interpret the various findings. ● Compare, contrast and analyse the different findings. ● Display models/presentations.
Air pollution Air pollution is the presence of substances in the atmosphere that are harmful to the health of humans and other living beings or cause damage to the climate or to materials. It is a significant risk factor for a number of pollution-related diseases, including respiratory infections, heart disease, COPD, stroke and lung cancer. The human health effects of poor air quality are far reaching, but principally affect the body's respiratory system and the cardiovascular
Air pollutants There are many different types of air pollutants, such as gases (such as ammonia, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, nitrous oxides, methane, carbon dioxide and chlorofluorocarbons), particulates (both organic and inorganic), and biological molecules.
WEEK 02 ACTIVITY:PROCEDURE/ACTIVITY: Activity 1:- Students will take the screenshots or video record and write five main points about AQI spoken by the GUEST SPEAKER .
FIVE MAIN POINTS ABOUT AQI SPOKEN BY THE GUEST SPEAKER ARE:- 1) AQI as a scale that runs from 0 to 500. The higher the AQI GUEST SPEAKER value, the greater the level of air pollution and the greater the health concern. For example, an AQI value of 50 or below represents good air quality, while an AQI value over 300 represents hazardous air quality. 2) In September 2015, 193 countries, developing and developed countries alike, adopted the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), known officially as the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (UN, 2015). Air pollution is recognized as a pressing sustainability concern and is directly mentioned in two SDG targets: SDG 3.9 (substantial reduction of health impacts from hazardous substances) and SDG 11.6
AN OPINION FROM A FAMILY MEMBER OF ADHARV RAGHUVANSHI
AQI (AIR QUALITY INDEX) The haphazard development is also a big cause for air pollution because due to the haphazardous development in many of the developing and developed countries the trees are being cut down to increase the land area for factories and building due to which it affects the air quality of that region. ● The AQI is divided into six categories. Each category corresponds to a different level of health concern. Each category also has a specific color. The color makes it easy for people to quickly determine whether air quality is reaching unhealthy levels in their communities.
AQI EPA(Environmental Protection Agency) establishes an AQI for five major air pollutants regulated by the Clean Air Act. Each of these pollutants has a national air quality standard set by EPA to protect public health: ● ground-level ozone ● particle pollution (also known as particulate matter, including PM2.5 and PM10) ● carbon monoxide ● sulfur dioxide ● nitrogen dioxide
Activity 2:- Students will compare the AQI of the respective week days of Varanasi ( i.e. 13-07-2021 to 20-07-2021 ) and Each Student will make a Bar Diagram or Line Diagram on the above collected data and compare the level of AQI on different days of week in Varanasi.
AQI OF VARANASI ON DIFFERENT DAYS OF THE WEEK ( i.e. 13-07-2021 to 20-07-2021 )

Activity 3:- Students will measure the AQI of KAVAL TOWNS (Kanpur, Agra, Varanasi, Allahabad, and Lucknow)
AQI OF KANPUR ON DIFFERENT DAYS OF THE WEEK ( i.e. 13-07-2021 to 20-07-2021 )
