Creative Creative Ways to Reduce Stress (or just have some FUN)! When you’re stressed or depressed about something, it’s incredibly hard to be productive or do anything mean- ingful towards a positive goal. For many people they are dealing with feeling overwhelmed, tired and irritable and other unpleasant feelings. While it is difficult to avoid stress completely, it’s not impossible. Consider doing a creative hobby or activity to elevate your mood. The goal of creative activities in this manner isn’t to create a mas- terpiece, but to change your mindset. Write It Out! Writing or typing your thoughts and emotions can be a great way of dealing with stress. Some people will write with the notion of coming up with an idea while others may write just to get thoughts out. Writing about an issue that bothers you can help to find clarity about a situation. It may help to write about topics that are not related to your stresses or daily activities. Find a topic you’ve always been interested in learning more about; do some research online and then write about your find- ings. Journaling your experience is one of the easiest methods of dealing with a situation. Keeping a private Diary of your feelings, sorrows, hopes and dreams is one of the greatest ways to be kind to yourself during trying times. Writing can be done anywhere; on paper or on a device. As long as you have the items you need in which to write—let writing be your therapy! Hiking LET’S GO TAKE A HIKE! One of the few healthy things we can do right now is enjoy the outdoors while practicing Social Distancing. One way is to hike/bike the local trails while observ- ing the COVID-19 Guidelines (see chart). Did you know that the geater Phoenix area has over 200 miles of hiking /biking trails? And many of these trails are right here in the East Valley! Trails (and mountain areas) that are currently open include; Usery Mountain (Apache Junction), Silly Mountain and Superstition Mountain (Gold Can- yon), San Tan Mountain Park (Queen Creek), Mc- Dowell Mountain Range (Fountain Hills), Squaw Peak & Camelback Mountain (Central Phoenix), Papago Park (near Phoenix Zoo & Desert Botanical Gardens), South Mountain (South of Hwy. Interstate 10). In March and April the foothills are in bloom in the desert with wildflowers of many colors. And in May our majestic Saguaros will showcase their crowns of white flowers. So, take a break from watching Netflix and get outside to enjoy some fresh air and natural beauty of the desert!

BE SAFE SOCIAL DISTANCING What does it mean? Social distancing is the practice of reducing close contact between people to slow the spread of infections or diseases. Social distancing measures include limiting large groups of people coming together, closing buildings and cancelling events. AVOID Use Caution Group Gatherings Visit a local Restaurant Concerts Theatre Outings Visit Grocery Store Get Take Out Athletic Events Pick up Medications Crowded Retail Stores Play Tennis in a Park Visiting the Library Malls Church Services Workouts in Gyms Traveling Visitors in your House Non-essential workers in your House Mass Transit Systems

Get out and Nordic Walk! But keep some distance from one another The fitness and health benefits of Nordic Walking are significantly greater than regular walk- ing, trekking or even jogging, with scientific research from Europe and the USA proving that Nordic Walking: • Activates 90% of the body’s muscles • Burns up to 46% more calories than regular walking • Increases aerobic effect by up to 25% compared to regular walking • Decreases load and strain on the lower body • Tones upper arms, shoulders and back muscles • Improves lateral mobility of the spine • Develops core stability and strength • Promotes an upright posture The Nordic Walking technique is a simple enhancement of normal arm swing when walking. The poles remain behind the body and pointing diagonally backward at all times. Shoulders are relaxed and down, poles are held close to the body. The hands are opened slightly to allow the poles to swing forward- the poles are not gripped but swing from the wrist straps. The leading foot strikes the ground as the opposite arm swings forward to waist height. The opposite pole strikes the ground level with the heel of the opposite foot. The poles remain pointing diagonally backward, they are never in front of the body. Push the pole as far back as possible, the arm straightening to form a continuous line with the fully extended arm, the hand opening off the grip by the end of the arm swing. The foot rolls through the step to push off with the toe. This lengthens the stride behind the body, getting the most out of each stride. The arm motion is loose and relaxed. https://www.youtube.com/fgwatch?v=zAmsHhc2zCw&t=84s

Some Benefits of Coconut Oil Coconut oil is incredibly popular — and something you may have in your pantry. It offers many health benefits, has a delicate taste, and is widely available. It’s also an extremely versatile oil with a number of uses you may not be aware of. Here are some clever uses for coconut oil: 1. Protects Your Skin From UV Rays When applied to your skin, coconut oil may protect it from the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays, which raise your risk of skin cancer and cause wrinkling and brown spots. In fact, one study found that coconut oil helps block about 20% of the sun’s UV rays. However, keep in mind that it doesn’t provide the same protection as con- ventional sunscreen, which blocks about 90% of UV rays. Another study estimated that coconut oil has a sun pro- tection factor (SPF) of 7, which is still lower than the minimum recommendation in some countries. 2. Increases Your Metabolism Coconut oil contains medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs). These are fatty acids that are quickly absorbed and can increase the number of calories you burn. Controlled studies have shown that MCTs can signifi- cantly boost your metabolic rate — at least temporarily. One study found that 15–30 grams of MCTs increased the number of calories burned by an average of 120 over a 24-hour period. 3. Cooks Safely at High Temperatures Coconut oil has a very high saturated fat content. In fact, about 87% of its fat is saturated. This feature makes it one of the best fats for high-heat cooking, including frying. Saturated fats retain their structure when heated to high temperatures, unlike the polyunsaturated fatty acids found in vegetable oils. Oils such as corn and safflower are converted into toxic compounds when heated. These may have harmful effects on health. Therefore, coconut oil is a safer alternative for cooking at high temperatures. 4. Improves Your Dental Health Coconut oil can be a powerful weapon against bacteria, including Streptococcus mutans, the bacteria in your mouth that causes dental plaque, tooth decay, and gum disease. In one study, swishing with coco- nut oil for 10 minutes — known as oil pulling — reduced these bacteria as effectively as rinsing with an antiseptic mouthwash. In another study, swishing daily with coconut oil significantly reduced inflammation and plaque in teenagers with gingivitis (inflamed gums) 5. Relieves Skin Irritation and Eczema Research shows that coconut oil improves dermatitis and other skin disorders at least as well as mineral oil and other conventional moisturizers. In a study in children with eczema, 47% of those treated with coconut oil noticed major improvements. 6. Improves Brain Function The MCTs in coconut oil are broken down by your liver and turned into ketones, which can act as an alter- native energy source for your brain. Several studies have found MCTs to have impressive benefits for brain disorders, including epilepsy and Alzheimer’s. Some researchers recommend using coconut oil as a source of MCTs to increase the production of ketones. 7. Makes for a Healthy Mayonnaise Commercial mayonnaise often contains soybean oil and added sugar. However, it’s easy to make your own mayo with coconut oil or olive oil. 8.Moisturizes Your Skin Coconut oil makes a wonderful moisturizer for your legs, arms, and elbows. You can use it on your face as well — though this isn’t recommended for those with very oily skin. It can also help repair cracked heels. Simply apply a thin coat to your heels at bedtime, put on socks, and continue on a nightly basis until your heels are smooth.

9. Makes Sugar-Free Dark Chocolate Homemade dark chocolate is a delicious way to get coconut oil’s health benefits. Just remember to store it in the refrigerator or freezer, since coconut oil melts at 76°F (24°C). It’s easy to find a recipe online and get started. To keep things healthy, look for sugar-free ideas. 10 Protects Your Hair From Damage Coconut oil can help keep your hair healthy. One study compared the effects of coconut oil, miner- al oil, and sunflower oil on hair. Only coconut oil significantly reduced protein loss from hair when applied before or after shampooing. This result occurred with damaged as well as healthy hair. Re- searchers concluded that the unique structure of lauric acid — the main fatty acid in coconut oil — can penetrate the hair shaft in a way that most other fats can’t. 11. Natural Deodorant While sweat itself has no smell, the bacteria living on your skin can produce undesirable odors. Coconut oil’s strong antibacterial properties make it a great natural deodorant that contains no chemi- cals. You can find many easy recipes for deodorants made with coconut oil and other natural ingredients online. 12. Quick Energy Source Coconut oil contains medium-chain triglyceride fatty acids, which are digested differently than the long- chain triglycerides found in most foods. These fats go directly from your gut to your liver, where they can be used as a quick source of energy that won’t raise blood sugar levels . 13. Make Homemade Salad Dressing Coconut oil offers several health benefits — but also has many other clever and practical uses. Make sure to always have plenty of coconut oil on hand. You never know when you might need it. CARROT CAKE INSTRUCTIONS BREAKFAST 1. Preheat the oven to 375F. Line a large rimmed COOKIES baking sheet with parchment paper or Silicon mat. 2. What Am I Riddles 1) I am not alive, but I grow; I don’t have lungs, but I need air; I don’t have a mouth, but water kills me. What am I? 1) If you drop me, I’m sure to crack. Give me a smile, and I’ll always smile back. 3) My life can be measured in hours, I serve by being devoured. Thin, I am quick. Fat, I am slow. Wind is my foe. What am I? 4) I am white when I am dirty, and black when I am clean. What am I? 5) This is as light as a feather, yet no man can hold it for long. What am I? 6) I am something people love or hate. I change peoples appearances and thoughts. If a per- son takes care of them self I will go up even higher. To some people I will fool them. To others I am a mystery. Some people might want to try and hide me but I will show. No matter how hard people try I will Never go down. What am I? 7) The more you take away, the more I become. What am I? 8) I have two hands, but I can not scratch myself. What am I? 9) I can be cracked, I can be made. I can be told, I can be played. What am I? 10) I’m tall when I’m young and I’m short when I’m old. What am I? 11) I reach for the sky, but clutch to the ground; sometimes I leave, but I am always around. What am I? 12) I have a big mouth and I am also quite loud! I am NOT a gossip but I do get involved with everyone’s dirty business. What am I? 13) No matter how little or how much you use me, you change me every month. What am I? 14) Some will use me, while others will not, some have remembered, while others have for- got. For profit or gain, I’m used expertly, I can’t be picked off the ground or tossed into the sea. Only gained from patience and time, can you unravel my rhyme? What am I? 15) You can drop me from the tallest building and I will be well, but if you drop me in water I die. What am I? 16) The more there is the less you see. What is it?

HOW TO ECO-PRINT ON PAPER Eco-printing on paper is a fun and easy way to introduce children to the wonders of natural dyeing or to get started with it yourself. Here’s a tutorial for one particular method, using autumn leaves. Autumn leaves print particularly well because they are high in tannins and carotenoid and anthocy- anin pigments, which all give colour. But you could also try this process at any time of year, with any leaves that you have around you (results will obviously vary). Materials: Strips of paper (watercolor is best) Wood blocks or tiles to press the paper between (or two Books) String Desert Flowers or plants Step 1 Fold your paper into a concertina booklet, slightly smaller than the blocks or tiles you are using. Wet it lightly, then arrange the leaves on each page. Step 2 Fold your paper up with the leaves inside. You can also put a leaf on the front and back covers. Then press between the wood blocks or tiles. Step 3 Wrap your wood blocks with string to hold the bundle together. You want firm pressure so that each leaf is pushed into the paper, to make a clear print. With tiles, you can clamp them together with bulldog clips. Step 4 Once your bundles are wrapped, put them in a pot of boiling water and simmer for 45 minutes to 1 hour. It is always best to use a dedicated dyepot, not one you also use for cooking. If the wood blocks float, weigh them down with a rock. Step 5 Let them cool, then carefully unwrap, remove the leaves and let the paper dry.

Look and Feel Coconut Oil Mask Coconut oil is one of the most recommended moisturizers to protect the skin against the harmful effects of free radicals. Unlike other petroleum products, it does not cause changes in the sebaceous glands or imbalances in the pH of the face. Instead, it helps remove dead skin and impurities re- tained, so it helps when it comes to getting a youthful looking healthy skin. In this case, we combine it with the coarse salt to increase its exfoliating and regenerating effect. Ingredients: 2 tablespoons organic coconut oil (30 g) One tablespoon of salt (12 g) Put coconut oil in a bowl and mix with the coarse salt. Remove the makeup from the face and apply the product by doing a circu- lar massage. Leave on for 15-20 minutes and rinse with warm water. Use 2 or 3 times a week. Coffee Mask Coffee is a popular ingredient in the elaboration of natural cosmetics. Because it contains a high content of antioxidants and caffeine, it fights harmful radicals to the skin and accelerates blood flow, leaving the skin brighter. Coffee also helps in increasing the production of collagen and elastin, decreases water loss and keeps the skin moisturized and soft. Ingredients: 1/2 teaspoon coffee powder 1/2 teaspoon coconut oil In crockery, or in the palm of your hand, add the two ingredients and mix with the tips of the fingers. Apply the mask on the face by doing a circular massage. Wait for 15 to 30 minutes and rinse with warm water. For best results, use this mix up to 3 times a week. DIY Honey Lemon Foot Scrub Tutorial 1 cup Epsom salts 1 cup granulated sugar or brown sugar 2 tablespoons raw honey 1 cup coconut oil melted 10 drops lemon essential oil (or juice of one lemon) In a medium sized mixing bowl, mix the Epsom salt and sugar until they are well combined. Slowly begin stirring in the melted coconut oil until your mixture is smooth, but not goopy (you may not need to use the full cup of oil, so pour slowly). Combining sugar and oil in a mixing bowl Next, add the honey and stir well. Honey being added to homemade foot scrub Finally, mix in the essential oil so the scent is evenly distributed.

Your Best! DIY Olive oil + Honey Hair Mask Recipe: 4 tbsp olive oil 2 tbsp honey Mix ingredients and leave on hair 20 minutes. This mixture is very sticky and messy and it’s hard to spread. It smells really good and leaves your hair shinny. DIY LEMON SUGAR SCRUB Make this simple and wonderful DIY Lemon Sugar Scrub and leave your skin fresh and glowing. Lemon is rich in antioxidants that your skin will love! It’s so fresh and invigorating! Plus our skin LOVES it! Rich is vitamin C and citric acid, lemon will clear and brighten our skin. Vitamin C is also a great antioxidant for neutralizing free radicals and boosting collagen production. If you don’t have your essential oils yet, you can substitute fresh lemon juice as well. Use the sugar scrub once or twice a week in the shower to exfoliate away dead skin cells and allow skin to breathe. INGREDIENTS 1 cup white sugar 1/4 cups Coconut oil, melted ( or almond oil, jojoba oil, grapeseed oil) 15 drops Lemon essential oil or the juice of one lemon Combine the sugar and melted coconut oil. (I melted the coconut oil in a glass measuring cup in the microwave for 30 seconds) Add the lemon essential oil or lemon juice. Mix until blended completely. Store in mason jars. Use a palmful once or twice a week for smooth, glowing skin.

Wall Art Using toilet Paper Rolls Supplies: • Paper towel or toilet paper rolls. • Craft paint. I chose black, but you can use any color that goes with your decor. • Foam brush. • Hot glue gun. • Scissors. • Pencil. • Ruler. • Sticky tack, command strips, or other art hanging supplies you prefer. 1 Start by flattening out your roll, creasing the two folds. The roll should pop back up. You’ll want at least 4 paper towel sized rolls for a good sized piece of wall art. When they’re all creased, go ahead and paint the outside of the rolls black. I would suggest doing one side, letting it dry, and then doing the other side. Let the rolls dry thoroughly. 2 Now take your ruler and your pencil, and start making small marks every 3/4 inch along the length of the rolls. Then take your scissors and start cutting across the roll at each little mark. You’ll end up with these little petal shapes. Keep cutting until you’ve cut all your rolls up. 3 Now take a few minutes to play around with the petals. I liked the look of a 5 petal flower best, but you can make any style of flower you’d like. Now start gluing your petals together with hot glue. Add one at a time until your flower is formed. 4 Now go ahead and make a whole bunch of flowers. When all your flowers are made, you can start working on your wall art design. I just started gluing together the petals of the different flowers like shown. And I just kept adding flowers. You can even group three or more together to make little bunches. If you’re ner- vous about gluing as you go, you can even lay out your design ahead of time and then glue everything when you’re happy with your final design. This is a very lightweight piece of art, so I was able to hang mine up just using sticky tack on the back of the flow- ers. You can use whatever hanging method you prefer though! And here’s how it looks all done!! No one could ever guess looking at your wall that this was made from recycled toilet paper or paper towel rolls. It’s such a frugal way to make a custom piece of art for your walls. I hope you enjoyed learning how to make this Recycled Toilet Paper Roll Flower Wall Art today!

Keto Peanut Butter Chocolate Fat Bomb This recipe originated on INGREDIENTS Pinterest and I modified it to use a silicone candy mold One 8 oz jar Natural Peanut Butter (peanuts that I keep in the freezer so and oil) I can pop one out for a quick 5 Tbs softened butter treat any time of day. 2 Tbs coconut flour 2/3 cup confectioners erythritol (I use Swerve) 3.5 oz Lily’s semisweet chocolate morsels In a medium mixing bowl add 4 tbs softened butter and whip at high speed with a hand mixer with beaters, add peanut butter, coconut flour, confectioner’s sweetener and continue mixing at high speed until all ingredients are combined and the texture is smooth and creamy. Scoop the peanut butter mixture evenly into the candy mold (you can use small paper cups the size used for a peanut butter cup or a shallow pan 8X9 inches lined with parchment paper) and shake it to settle. Place it on a flat shelf in the freezer for 15 minutes. In the meantime measure out 3.5 oz semisweet chocolate morsels in a microwave safe measuring cup or bowl and add 1 tbs of butter. At the end of the 15 minutes place the chocolate into the microwave on high for 30 seconds (caution: do not over heat the chocolate morsels, they may appear to still be solid but I have found that stirring with a spoon briefly will make the perfect topping for your fat bombs.) With a teaspoon, scoop the chocolate onto the frozen fat bombs (about 1/3 to 1/2 small teaspoon). If you used a pan lined with parchment paper just spread the chocolate evenly with a spatula. Place back into the freezer and keep until used. These will need to be cut with a sharp knife into small squares. My recipe makes 24 fat bombs, I have never calculated the nu- trition info since using the candy mold is different than using a shallow pan and cutting into squares. This is my #1 go to treat on a daily basis. 24 pieces usually last two people for 6 days. Mary love’s them too! Randy Sprow – Apache Wells RV Resort
