SHE IS BORN ON SEPTEMBER 11 IN THE YEAR 2004 IN BUTUAN SURIGAO DEL SUR. SHE LIKES COOKING AND PLAYING VOLLEYBALL AS HER PAST TIME. WHEN SHE IS NOT FOUND WONDERING OUTSIDE, ALEXANDRA IS JUST SIPPING HER ICED COFFEE WHILE LISTENING TO HER FAVORITE PLAYLIST, OR SHE IS SLEEPING BECAUSE ABOVE ALL \"SLEEPING IS THE BEST MEDICINE\" SHE SAYS. WWHHAATT IISS HHIIPP--HHOOPP DDAANNCCEE?? a unique and exciting style of street dance that is most commonly performed to hip-hop music. Hip-hop dance is a vibrant form of dance that combines a variety of freestyle movements to create a cultural piece of art. WHAT MAKES HIP-HOP? Hip-Hop music commonly accompanies rapping, a rhythmic and rhyming speech that is chanted. Beats, almost always in a 4/4 time signature, can be created by sampling and/or sequencing portions of other songs. They also incorporate synthesizers, drum machines, and live bands. WHY IS HIP-HOP IMPORTANT TO YOUTH CULTURE? Hip Hop is a culture - it's not just about rapping. Besides several branches of music, Hip Hop also encompasses dancing, fashion, an attitude, and is a symbol for pushing boundaries. For many it has become a way of life and for this reason this culture has had a massive impact on society. 2

WWHHEERREE IITT AALLLL BBEEGGAANN Hip-hop dance began during the late 1960's and early 1970's, originally inspired by the movements of African dancing, and flourished as a new style of dance performed on the street for the people. Hip-hop incorporates aspects of modern dance, tap, and swing, integrating music and complex movements to form artistry. The early history and roots of hip- hop dance are most often associated with its beginning on the East Coast, specifically in New York City. 3

PPOOPPPPIINNGG Popping is a bouncy style that requires major use of counter- tempo. 6

FFUUNNKK Funk, which is a fusion of Disco and Soul, uses a mixture of fluid and sharp movements and is often highly choreographed. Locking and Popping are also often incorporated into this dance style. UUPP RROOCCKK Up rock uses a combination of many dance moves to create soulful dances. Typically, this dance style includes: Shuffles Spins Freestyle Movements Jerks Hand Gestures 7

HHOOWW HHIIPP--HHOOPP IINNSSPPIIRREESS PPEEOOPPLLEE Hip-hop can raise awareness of many critical cultural problems, such as racism and misogyny, while also evoking emotion. For example, Kendrick Lamar, who has been dubbed a lyrical genius by some, attempts to inspire encouragement to conquer personal issues. UUNNIIQQUUEENNEESSSS OOFF HHIIPP--HHOOPP Hip-hop is a very energetic form of dancing. It is unique in that it allows its dancers to perform with freedom of movement, adding in their own personalities. SSOOCCIIAALL IIMMPPAACCTT Through the use of hip hop, more attention is able to be brought towards black struggles in modern society, and raise awareness of current social and political issues. While many may focus on the physical struggles of the black community, it is also important to observe the cultural struggles. 10
