Relative Pronoun คือ ประพันธสรรพนาม หรอื คาสรรพนามท่ีเอาไว้ใช้ขยาย ประโยคให้ประธานหรอื กรรมในประโยคยาวข้ึน และมี รายละเอียดมากข้ึน โดยท่เี ราจะใช้ประพันธสรรพนามนาหน้า ส่วนขยายท่ีเราเรยี กว่า relative clause และอีกกรณีก็คือ ใช้เชอ่ื มตอ่ กับประโยคท่ีสมบูรณ์แล้ว

1. Defining relative clause Defining relative clause ใช้ในกรณีที่เรากาลังพดู ถึง บางสิ่งบางอย่างหรือบุคคลที่มีความสาคัญต่อความของประโยค เพื่อการขยายความ ท้ังน้ีเราจะไม่ใช้เคร่ืองหมาย comma ด้านหน้าคา relative pronounได้ เพราะวา่ เราไม่สามารถตัดส่วน ขยาย relative clause ออกไปจากจากประโยคได้

ข้อสั งเกตเก่ียวกับ Relative Pronoun

1. เราจะเลอื กใชค้ าวา่ That หรอื Which ดี เน่ื องจากทงั้ สองคาสามารถใช้กบั ส่ิงของได?้ • that ไม่สามารถอยู่หลัง comma ได้ • which ตามหลังเครอื่ งหมาย comma ได้ เช่น ➢ The vintage car that is parked over there belongs to me. ➢ The vintage car, which is about to pass us, is my father’s.
