04 MOHAMMAD YASIN BIN JUMAT MAKING WORK POSSIBLE FOR VOYAGER PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES Acrylic on Canvas 30cm x 40cm Yasin's signature style of strong, bold strokes turn the humble Chinese junk into a statement on Singapore's colourful past as a major trading post. In the 18th to mid-19th century, junks were carried from China to Singapore's shores by the northeast monsoon in spring, carrying produce such as dried fruit, medicine, earthenware, floor tiles and silk. The junk ships were also the early forms of transport for Chinese immigrants searching for a brighter future overseas. Those who sank roots in this tiny island of Southeast Asia would become the brave pioneers of modern Singapore. The bold lady in red stands out like a statement through the shards of blue, for her beauty cannot stay hidden. With the slight tilt of the red hat, the lady exudes an air of mystery. Natasha applied the paint uniformly on canvas, giving only a slight gradient on the skin to represent shadows. 18 JENSEN CHRISTIAN OLAGUER TADURAN CANVAS OF EMOTIONS Acrylic on Canvas 76.2cm x 76.2cm If we could paint our feelings, what would they be like? What colours would they be? What shapes will they form? In this painting, Jensen explores depicting emotions via colours, form, and textures created by patterns and shapes. On the surface the different emotions seems to contrast one another, but as seen in the artwork, they ebb and flow with one another, giving birth to a brand new canvas of beautiful textures and colours.
