Power to Withdraw Why is this a power? Because we are so used to living in the world of our senses that it is not easy to use the subtle powers of the mind. First of all, we need to focus (using the intellect or eye of the mind) on the subtle senses of the inner self - thoughts, feelings, attitude etc. Once “inside”, I look at how I am. Do I “see/feel” peace – do I “see/feel” happiness that is not connected to a physical source? If so, this is a sign that I am connected to me, myself – what I am at core – a being of peace and happiness etc. By drawing and focusing on these subtle aspects of the self, I can express myself from the core of my being rather that from an external stimulus. I learn to see (understand) the contrast between soul consciousness and body consciousness - my real self and the influenced shadow self that I mistakenly identify with. I learn to be by myself – enjoy my own company and see my natural goodness. I learn to see the bigger picture of life and in doing so, see the natural goodness in everything.
Power to Pack-up This is the power to put a full stop to wasteful or unwanted thoughts. It is the power to move the mind away from some involvement, concern, task in order to give attention to another more pressing or important matter that suddenly comes inform of you. Of course you have to decide if this matter is a distraction or really needs your focus. The practice of one minute every hour “traffic control” (switching the mind to internal silence) is good for this.
Power to Tolerate This power is really the ability to tolerate peacefully. For this, first I need to be able to detach from the situation in front of me – to put a full stop to wasteful questioning thoughts of “what”, “why”, “should”, “shouldn't”. I need to have the power to accept life as it comes along and find the benefit going on somewhere, perhaps hidden as yet. To accept doesn't mean I don't assert myself when required, but to face the situation, calmly and steadily. When I can position my mind as a detached observer then I can tolerate. To be able to tolerate with coolness and love, you need the feeling of spiritual company. This is necessary “reassurance” and support at a time when there can be a feeling of vulnerability. Nothing seems too much because I have the feeling of possessing the great treasure of divine guidance and protection
Power to adjust & accommodate The main aspect with this power is one of flexibility, so that I can move with the flow of life. I am able to accommodate all situations like the ocean absorbs all that flows into it without being affected. We are in a society where everyone has their own often, selfish agenda as well as their outlook, beliefs, habits etc. that contribute to the complexity of any interaction. Using this spiritual power, I don't get pulled into the emotion of getting upset if things or people are not going my way. I keep centred, knowing that this energy will contribute to ensure the flow goes in a positive and beneficial direction. I don't try to dominate or control, but lead by example having an attitude of inclusiveness. I ignore any trivia by not letting inconsequential things come to the surface or be a distraction from the positive flow of life.
Power to Discern This is the ability to be aware of what is beneficial and what I need to focus on, irrespective of appearances. The qualities needed for this power: · being observant (using the intellect) and detached/objective having a plain/simple/clear/truthful intellect · realisation of the importance of goodness connection with the source of goodness being balanced understand the law of karma patience
Power of Judgement (Decision making) Before being able to decide accurately and appropriately on anything I need to be aware of all the issues. This power is based on the practice of inner silence and maintaining a clear and cool intellect. A decision is taken on - what I know higher personality traits impartiality, yet being in tune with circumstances intuition If I do not have inner balance then my decision could just be my opinion or a hasty judgement due to impatience, some desire, laziness or prejudice etc. Good judgement involves the quality of goodness, a feeling of benefit for all and comes from a higher standpoint with no selfish motive.
Power to face This is the power to resolve all obstacles and challenging situations and the basis for this power is that first there is the need to be able to 'face' in the right direction. This means that the attitude has to be one of positivity as is it takes courage to stand up to forces that can put one down. It takes courage to stay firm in the face of unpleasantness, whether this comes from outside or within my own mind. Ego gets in the way of my being able to admit to failure or weaknesses due to lack of inner security. Hence, I need all the support I can get and so the strongest help is to have my feet firmly planted on the ground of spiritual values. Then the power to face whatever I have to, emerges automatically. I don't need to worry whether I can or I can't.
Power to co-operate This power includes the other powers, not just lending a physical hand at a time of need but to have the power of a positive attitude and to be able to give your energies to benefit others. I need to be able to detach from the situation in front of me and see what is required. Very often, the co operation of a sympathetic and accepting attitude is such that it empowers others in some way. Further, it is the support, offered to one who is under some negative influence, by not reacting but remaining stable and non-judgemental. When this power is used, it is a means to bring benefit to many, whatever the situation and however, the person or people in front are. This power is able to bring about unity and harmony where before, it was lacking.
