2   ‘Effortless, stylish sleepwear for the sustainably conscious woman’

About Us 3 Hemerah saw the day of light when its founder, Farrah Megee was unable to find sleepwear which gave her the perfect fit for her petite frame. Wanting to invest in something which was opulent and distinctive, she discovered a gap in the market for a luxurious sleepwear brand which offered alternative fits of petite and tall. Hemerah takes inspiration from those with cool, effortless style. Encapsulating the laid back style of influencers in a relaxed fit with impeccable detailing and bold handwriting. Hemerah is known for its use of vivid colours, and fun, statement prints. “We wanted to create a brand which was opulent, whilst also ensuring we were creating something which is sustainable. There aren’t many brands out there that create sustainable product which is bold and fun – and we wanted to showcase that. We believe that sleepwear should also reflect your personality- not hide it. Most importantly, we wanted something which caters to a wider audience, other than just the customary ‘regular’ fit.”

Our Our fabric is a mix of 63% silk, 37% Fabric tencel. We’ve selected this fabric as we think it’s a perfect balance between comfort and sustainability whilst still retaining a luxe feel. It features tencel which is one of the most environmentally friendly regenerated fabrics available. TENCEL® is a sustainable fabric, regenerated from wood cellulose and sourced from a transparent supply chain. 4 It is obtained from eucalyptus trees that are grown on farms—no old growth forests, genetic manipulation, irrigation, or pesticides are used. These forests and the pulp produced for Tencel have earned Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification that the products come from socially and environmentally responsible forests. The European Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification has also endorsed Tencel’s farming practices as sustainable. Tencel eliminates the negative environmental impacts of traditional fibre processing, using new sustainable technologies.

Tencel has some distinct advantages over traditional 5 fibres in terms of chemical processing, which can often be extensive and toxic. For example, Rayon manufacturing generates highly polluting air and water emissions, uses catalytic agents containing cobalt or manganese, and creates a strong, unpleasant odour. However, the chemicals used to produce lyocell f ibres are nontoxic. The cellulose or ground pulp used for Tencel is treated in what is known as a closed loop process in which these solvents are recycled with a recovery rate of 99.5%. The tiny amount of remaining emissions is decomposed in biological purification plants. Because of the nature of the material, the processing never requires bleach. This overall method of manufacturing fabric was awarded the “European Award for the Environment” by the European Union . TENCEL® fabric carries the Oeko Tex 10 0 cer tif ication, an international standard developed in 1992 to certify that it contains no harmful substances. Tencel also has been awarded the European Community Eco- label flower for products and services with reduced environmental impacts. As silk and tencel are natural fibres, they are naturally biodegradable. At the end of its useful life, our garments can return to nature, and re-enter the ecosystem. Our silk tencel fabric features a silky soft hand feel which is emphasised by the 17 momme silk content.

Our Sustainability Stance 6

At Hemerah, we believe it is our intrinsic right to ensure 7 whatever we do, we do it sustainably. From our factory, to the fabric and packaging we use, we have sourced our materials from only sustainable resources. Our factory focuses on creating a future in which humanity, the environment and productivity mutually equate in a cycle of global innovation. We have partnered with them as they care about the environment, community and people. They have invested in energy saving equipment and environmentally friendly technology such as; the implementation of rainwater recycling, solar energy, material and waste recycling, and reducing carbon footprint through an increase of natural, bright light, efficient lighting equipment and water cooling air conditioners. Our factory is Bluesign® certified, which means we manufacture with lowest possible environmental burden, resource-improving production as well as augmented safety for workers and consumers. Our packaging is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). The Forest Stewardship Council sets standards for forest products, independently certifies that these standards have been met, and bestows labels upon the products that qualify. Forest Stewardship Council certification gives customers the option to choose forest products like paper and wood that have been sourced in an environmentally-friendly, socially responsible and economically viable manner. FSC was founded in 1993 in response to concerns about deforestation.
