Perks\t sat\t down\t heavily\t in\t the\t elbow-chair\t and\t looked\t at\t them\t with\t what Bobbie\tafterwards\tdescribed\tas\twithering\tglances\tof\tgloomy\tdespair. \\\"So\t you've\t been\t round\t telling\t the\t neighbours\t we\t can't\t make\t both\t ends\t meet?
