ULUSLARARAS1 ÇALIŞMALAR Internatıonal Projects SUMMER SCHOOL IN ENGLANDEvery summer, our high school students take partin summer school programs. This year our studentsstayed for three weeks at the University of QueenMary in London accompanied by our English teacherNurgül Uzun. The students had the chance to explorethe British Culture while they were together withdifferent nations during their 3-week long educationprogram.The students had interactive reading, writing, listeningand speaking lessons and the opportunity to usethe target language. They did not only have classesbut also attended some sports and social activitiessuch as disco, karaoke nights and costume parties.Besides, they took daily trips and cultural tours. Theyvisited Oxford, Brighton, National Gallery of London,British Museum, Imperial War Museum, and Thorpe Park including Madame Tussauds, London Eye, LondonBridge and Tower Bridge, which are the symbols of England.They spent one evening at Her Majesty’s Theatre to watch “The Phantom of the Opera” and a musical. This has been our first experience as 8th graders this year. We enjoyed this fun experience to the fullest. Being 8thgrade students made us realize how important it is to focus on pronunciation with other grade levels. So howmuch do you know about tongue twister? We wanted to answer this question while teaching them to othergrade levels. We learned that tongue twisters are a fun way to help students improve their pronunciation ofthe English words. So how can that be fun? Every time you are trying to speak a sentence you have to makesure you are pronouncing every word correctly. Would you like to take this challenge with us next time? Mesela, ilk aktivite gerçekten çok eğlenceliydi.Daha iyi bir sınıf ortamı için beraberce sınıf kurallarımızı yazdık. Ek olarak, yaz projelerimizi ve ödevlerimizitamamladık. Resimler çizdik ve yaz tatili boyunca yaşadığımız en eğlenceli deneyimimiz hakkında yazdık.İngilizce öğretmenlerimiz bize deniz yurtdışındaymışız gibi hissettirdirler. We have already met new friends and teachers during the prep period and this new start helped us feel at home in our school. We started thenew units with our teachers and we began expanding our perspectives with their support. For example, thefirst activity was really enjoyable. We wrote our classroom rules together so that we have a good classroomenvironment. In addition, we completed our summer projects and also our homework. We drew picturesand wrote something about the most fun and most challenging things that we had experienced during thesummer. Our English teachers made us feel like we were overseas. Also, we did a lot of fun activities toimproved our English speaking skills, like ‘Two Truths and One Lie.’ Those activities encouraged us to speak infront of an audience. Bu aktivite, her yıl kutlanan Avrupa Diller Gününün bir parçasıydı. Bu aktivite dil yetenekle-rimizi ölçmeye odaklı. Bu yüzden, kelime bulmaya yönelik olan bu meydan okumaya katılmadan önce, dilyeteneklerinin çok iyi oldugundan emin olmalısın. Bu meydan okumanın başında çok gergin hissetmiştimkendimi. Oyunda onları temsil etmesi için sınıf arkadaşlarım beni seçti ve altı diğer arkadaşımızı seçti. Kim İn-gilizce, Almanca ve Fransızca soruları cevaplayabilir ona karar verdik. You might be surprise why we chose to call it TreasureHunt Day. The activity was part of European Day of Languages that is celebrated every year. The activityfocuses on testing our language skills. So, before you join the challenge to find the words, you need to havegood language skills. At the beginning of this challenge I felt a bit nervous. My classmates chose me and sixother friends to represent them in the game. We decided on who can answer the English, German and Frenchquestions. In the game, questions weren’t difficult at all. We did the best we could to answer them and wereable to get to the next level quickly. Our team was the fastest among other competitors. Finally, we won thegame and were so happy to share our success story with our classmates. As you can see, the photos tell youeverything you need to know about Treasure Hunt day. YAZMA MERKEZİWriting Center WRITING CLASS YAZMA DERSİUnutmak, unutulmak... Belki de en büyük korkusudur insanoğlunun. Yazmak bu korkunun gölgesinde yetişmiş ve günümüze kadar kök salmış bir ağaçtır. Geride bir iz bırakmak için bir fırsattır aslında. Sözüntarihi yazıdan daha eskidir fakat sınırlıdır, silinmeye meyillidir. Görüyoruz ki sözlerin kaderi hafızanın vicdanınakaldığı için insanoğlu söylediklerini, yaptığı anlaşmaları, inançlarını, iyi ya da kötü tüm anılarını unutulmanınpençesinden yazıyla kurtarmak istemiştir. Yazmak dışavurumdur, rahatlamak, omzumuza yüklenen tümağırlıkları kâğıtta bırakmaktır. Ancak zorlu bir süreçtir de yazmak. Biz konuşmayı öğrendiğimizden beri kendimizi sözlü olarak ifade etmeye alışmışız, pratiklerimizi hepbu yönde yapmışız. Yazmayı hep geri plana atmış, bu yüzden bu becerimizi geliştirememişiz.İlk kez bu yıl açtığımız “Yazma Dersi” ile öğrencilerimizin yazma becerilerini geliştirmeyi hedefliyoruz.Öğrencilerimizi kalemle barıştırmak için derslerimizde onların da seveceği yazma etkinlikleri uyguluyor veböylelikle hedefimize ulaşmayı umuyoruz.To forget, to be forgotten… Maybe the biggest fear of human beings. Writing has grown up under the shadow of this fear and it has been a kind of tree rooting into today. Actually that is a chance to leavetrace behind. The history of speech is older than writing but limited and prone to be deleted. As far as wecan see, as the fate of speech is up to the inner of memory, human beings have all the time desired to save„what they have told, all the agreements that they have made, all the beliefs, all the moment good or badfrom being forgotten with the help of writing. Writing is an expression, relieving and leaving all the things onpaper. And also a highly tough process - writing is. A human being may not know how to start, go on writingand end the writing when s/he gets a pen into his/her hand. That may not be as easy as speaking. Therefore,we think less but speak more; or think more but write less. Well, whereas we are expressing ourselves easilywhile speaking, why cannot we do the same while writing? The answer is really easy, actually. As we havegotten used to express ourselves verbally since we learned how to speak, we have practiced this all the time.Writing has played second fiddle; thats why, we couldnt improve this skill of us.For the first time we have had a writing lesson this year and with that we are aiming our students improvetheir writing skill.
