Amateur Committee Mark Cronin, Amateur Committee Co-Chair Whew! One minute the Amateur Committee is preparing for the 2019 Con- gress and Nationals, and then in a flash, it is all ver! Goody bags, filled with s veral nice items were prepared and distributed to the amateurs registered at both events. Generous donations allow our ama- teurs an opportunity receive useful items they can use in their everyday equine activities. Several special prizes and grand prizes were randomly placed in the goody bags for lucky winners. A special thank you goes out to all the donors of these exclusive prizes. 128 bags were given out at Congress and 326 were given out at Nationals. Thanks to all the volunteers who donated their time to help fill the bags and to the membe s who worked the booth handing the bags out to the amateurs. The Amateur committee had many sponsored events going on for the attend- ees at these shows. Getting the mornings started at Nationals, exhibitors were treated to delicious donuts for three days. An airplane toss was well received again this year at both events with nearly 40 participants at Congress and a little over 50 at Nationals. The sponsored pizza parties refueled the exhibi- tors with over 100 pizzas provided at both events. Congress also had a Taco Tuesday which was well received. I would like to thank all our special activ- ities sponsors, which allowed us to provide fun, food, and socializing for the exhibitors. Congratulations to all the winners of the Amateur awards provided, which amateurs earned by exhibiting in designated classes. The hard work preparing for those events was evident in their exhibition during the shows. Help making this all possible was the fantastic staff orking the office tracking esults during the shows. Look for upcoming contests and new information on the Amateur Facebook page which will be continuing throughout the off season. Hope all h ve gotten some rest following Congress and Nationals. Time now to enjoy the fall with your equine and start preparing for next year. On Saturday evening most of the exhib- itors met for a delicious dinner and some drinks including live music, at the veranda of the restaurant. During the show over 120 horses were judged in many diffe ent classes. Several halter classes, some performance classes for children and a few driving classes made the two days very interesting for the partic- ipants and outside spectators. The whole show could have also been accessed via live stream anywhere around the world. The judges worked hard to elect the Champion of Champions at the con- clusion of the show. They gave a lot of compliments on the quality of the horses they saw and judged over the duration of the weekend, a mention of high praise for the European breeders. 48 The Journal • Octobert/November 2019
