Task ONE: Our 3 Issues

Our 3 Issues Our first issue is poverty Our second issue is crime Our third issue is environment

Task TWO: Our 4 Questions RESEARCH TIME Must have 2 - 5 websites included on last page bibliography!

What is poverty? Everybody should have enough money or resources for the basic needs of life – enough food for oneself and for one’s family; a roof over one’s head; and resources to cover clothing, education and health expenses. Poverty is a relative concept used to describe the people in a society that cannot participate in the activities that most people take for granted. While many Australians juggle payments of bills, people living in poverty have to make difficult choices – such as skipping a meal to pay for a child’s textbooks. ● How many Australians are living in poverty in 2021? As a result, more than 3.24 million Australians live below the poverty line, including 774,000 children under the age of 15. This is one in eight adults, and one in six children who are struggling to survive. ● Where can we turn to if we are homeless or living in poverty? There are lots of places like the Smith Family, Salvation Army, Red Cross that help families with shelter, food and bills when needed. Anyone can visit these places and ask for help ● Who is affected most by poverty?? Young children or families? Among different family types, sole parent families have the highest poverty rates, at 35%. Children in sole parent families, with a poverty rate of 44%, are more than three time as likely to live in poverty as children in couple families, who have a poverty rate of 13%. ● How does Australia compare to other countries with poverty? Australia’s poverty rate is very low compared to other countries such as the ones in Asia and Africa.

Task THREE: Our new Law Statement

Fair Pay Bill A Bill for an ACT to pay poor people a minimum of $100 per day.

Task FOUR: Our Arguments

For Against I. So everyone can have a decent I. People might abuse the system income. and spend the money on drugs and alcohol. II. More money for people to spend and live. II. Less money for the GOVT to spend on health and Education III. Get more families off the streets and help homeless III. It might stop people looking people. for a job.

Task FIVE: Add an Amendment to this Bill This means a change to the law your making.. Think about the law you are making.. Imagine it was being used right now... What could be added or changed to your statement from Task 3 to make it better?

A change to improve the Bill In 2021 Amendment 1, we want to make the payment from $100 to $150/day. Our survey has shown that the current $100/day is not enough to cover bills, food, and other costs. Instead, we should pay $150, which will cover everything, as well as not cost the government too much. This will help keep people off the streets and hopefully out of shelters. It will help people live.

Arguments for or against I am on the side of for I believe that everybody should be able to have a good life and be equal. If everyone could be paid at least $100 a day then less people would be living in poverty and less people would be homeless. More kids can have a better education and can have a safer home. I want to see less people on the streets and more people in houses. As a member of the cabinet i want to do whatever i can to turn this bill into an ACT through Parliament. We can do this by putting this Fair Pay Bill forward to the house of representatives.
