We will have a live kirtan in the Temple of Light at 7:30 pm, PDT. What is Janmashtami? It is the birthday of Sri Krishna, traditionally celebrated on the 8th day of the waning moon between mid-August and mid-September. Knowing as Master explained, Sri Krishna being the former incarnation of Mahavatar Babaji, this will be in loving honor to both avatars as a Janmashtami/Babaji celebration. Spiritual Renewal Week 2021 Schedule & Sign up Expanding Light Update Vol. 2 – New Directions Our visioning team is excited to share some of the new directions for The Expanding Light Retreat. After over a year and a half of being closed, we are looking to revitalize and refresh not only our guest offerings, but also the physical space of the retreat. Infusing the Community Experience Most notably, we hope to cultivate a stronger bond between the retreat and village, providing guests a more direct experience of community life while also connecting villagers to outreach opportunities. This new focus will have many facets; for now we’ll share about our ongoing programs below. We are hoping to create a large enough list of volunteers to share these seva opportunities. If you agree to be part of this Ananda Transport Team, we will check with you to see whether or not you are available for an upcoming appointment. There are different types of service that you can undertake. Distances may vary from taking someone to the Clinic, to an appointment in town, to areas such as Auburn, Yuba City, Roseville and even Sacramento. Medical specialists are few in our local area and more and more people are seeing specialists. Types of service also can vary. Some transport companions will simply drop someone off for an appointment; others will accompany their gurubhais into an appointment and take notes while they are there. You will be matched with the type of service you are most comfortable with. Please let either Mantrini or Karuna know if you can volunteer in this way. We will follow up with you so that we can match your type of service with the requests that come in. Thank you for your help! The iconic water tower near the main gate of the Meditation Retreat was taken down yesterday, August 25. 8-25-21—Message from Durga: Thanks to all those who helped build the water tower over 40-50 years ago. It has served us well all these years. But now its life purpose has come to an end in order for the new solar project to go forward, and also because it is a serious safety hazard. Pray for us that it comes down safely. We will be putting in our new water system very soon. We are taking the place of the housing committee in regards to helping you explore your interest in rooms or suites at Babaji House. Due to the nature of the cubicles, we will assess if your business use in this space is a good fit for the building and other renters.
