It has been found as a great bonding opportunity for both and now, with the pandemic conditions, it is the most missed event. However, we at PORPS are compensating for this by conducting virtual tours. Students have confirmed that though these do not match the actual touring, the virtual tours are still interesting and they hope to visit these places when normalcy returns. But here come the rain drops - Vikram Aditya, X C Passing in the way And the Sky prepares to put up a show To amaze the eyes of those who see After the dark, gloomy clouds begin to clear And says it again \"Barriers can bring out Unexpected beauty.\" - A student of XI F What makes us good citizens? .It is hard to answer that question because every person can think about different definitions of a good citizen. Many can call themselves a good citizen just because they work, pay taxes and obey laws. But is it enough? Not for everyone. Good citizens do not serve their own interest but rather understand that their deeds affect the world around them. We keep asking the question “What will my country do for me?” but, we as citizens itself make up the country and naturally, it is our responsibility to do something for it. Good citizens serve their country without prejudice and selfishness. They care about the milieu of their community, country and the world. For me, actions of a good citizen include protection of the country, education and community service. We can’t expect everyone to be in the army but, all citizens shall in some way help to protect the country they are living in, in whatever way possible- even if it’s really small. Be ready at any moment to give up their lives to protect the land where their ancestors lived and where future generations will come into being. But it does not have to be a military protection, but also protection from violence, robbery and other types of crime or deviant behaviour. Be ready to help the police to stop criminals, and create a safe environment for the youth. Education is another powerful tool to build citizenship values and in giving back to the country. Through interacting with friends and teachers from kindergarten through university, one can strengthen such virtues as love, care, responsibility, honesty and devotion. One can also garner a wealth of knowledge that can help one carry out social, political, economic responsibilities. Education also opens access to new information technologies, technologies that can expand one's knowledge of people in other parts of the world. As one becomes aware of the under privileged people, one can better appreciate and preserve what one has. One might learn from some good examples to effect changes for the better. Finally, community service where some can help to improve the community they are living in; community. For instance, I’m a part of the RHA (Robin Hood Academy) in Banjara Hills, constantly going for voluntary drives whenever I have the time to help out the needy- purely out of will. Improving community helps in improving the whole country. And we can do it in many ways. Some help members of the community for better reasons other than personal gain or for making it look good on their resumé. Some participate in block watches; others staff help hotlines. Some attend city council meetings, while still others volunteer to help paint houses or pick up trash. Each of these are examples of the work of citizens who care about their country. We can truly say that good citizens are like small flames combined to make a bright light- light for a better future. A swallow may not make a summer; however, individual citizens, joining efforts - whether in a recycling centre, a kitchen, a science lab, or a primary classroom- can build a strong community and country; and all of this does justice to John F. Kennedy’s statement. - Prabneet Kaur Walia, XII H
