Ex: study= studies, supply = supplies BUT: Consonant + a vowel + Y= Y+ S Ex: Play= plays  PRONUNCIATION: -ES/-S: - ‘Es’ is pronounced /iz/ after s, x, z, sh, ch, ge E.g: couches, quizzes, garages, boxes, bridges, crashes - ‘S’ is pronounced /s/ after k, p, t, f, th E.g: books, streets, beliefs, cups, cloths - ‘S’ is pronounced /z/ after the vowels (a,e,i,o,u) and consonants, ‘Y= i+ es’ E.g: boys, pens, songs, streets, cities, stories Negative form: Subject Verb example I, YOU, WE, THEY HE, SHE, IT + DO NOT +V(bare inf) I don’t play soccer. + DOES NOT + V (bare inf) He doesn’t play soccer. Adverbs of frequency: (always, usually, sometimes, often, hardly ever, never) are used after TO BE, before the main verb. Usage: a. Habits: Ex: I always get up at 5 a.m. b. The Truth: Ex: The Sun goes around the Earth. B. SỞ HỮU CÁCH (POSSESSIVE ‘S) Sở hữu cách được dùng để diễn đạt sự sở hữu. 1. Công thức chung của sở hữu cách Người làm chủ + ‘s + vật/ người thuộc quyền sở hữu (tức là thuộc về người đó) E.g: Mary’s shirt (áo sơ mi của Mary) Tom’s father (cha của Tom) 2. Các trường hợp khác:  Danh từ số ít nhưng có s cuối mỗi từ (như tên riêng, hoặc danh từ có s sẵn), thêm ‘s. E.g: Doris’s jeans (quần jeans của Doris), my boss’s son (con trai của sếp tôi)  Danh từ số nhiều không có S, thêm ‘S. E.g: children’s books (sách của trẻ em)  Danh từ là số nhiều có S, chỉ thêm dấu phẩy, không thêm S. E.g: students’ library (thư viện của sinh viên)  Nếu vật hay người thuộc về hai danh từ nối nhau bằng chữ “AND” chỉ thêm ‘s cho danh từ thứ hai. E.g: Carol and Susan’s car (xe hơi của Carol và Susan) * NOTE: o Sở hữu cách chỉ dùng cho người, quốc gia và vật có sự sống (E.g: my cat’s legs), ngoài ra có thể dùng sở hữu cách cho tàu bè, xe cộ, máy bay (nhưng trường hợp này cấu trúc of + danh từ thông dụng hơn) và thời gian (E.g: today’s news).  Chúng ta có thể bỏ bớt danh từ sau ‘s nếu là từ thông dụng, ai cũng biết. E.g: the car of the engineer ==> the engineer’s car  Với đồ vật, phải dùng “of” (nghĩa là “của”) và “the” cho hai danh từ nếu không có tính từ sở hữu hay this, that, these, those.
