From the Execu ve Director Youth Home’s 2014 Fiscal Year was notable for several reasons, but most of all, for the development and implementation of a comprehensive strategic plan. In the summer of 2013 we contracted with Open Minds, a consulting group specializing in work with behavioral health organizations. Out of that consultation, we began implementing our strategic plan in early 2014. This process was driven by the realization that the health care environment is quickly changing as the Affordable Care Act moves forward. In order to be relevant in the future, Youth Home will need to decrease its dependence on Medicaid by diversifying payer sources and programming. We are also moving forward with technological resources that will help us stay on the cutting edge of service delivery. We recognized the need for services that are specific to patient diagnosis and developed specialized residential tracks around that need. While much has been done, we have really only begun. Youth Home is exploring and developing new services to provide youth, families, and adults with a strong continuum of care. There will be significant challenges, but we are excited about the opportunities that come with them. During this time of transition, the support of our friends is more important than ever. We have maximized David Napier - Executive Director the revenue potential of our current business model. As inflation continues to put stress on our operation we know now, more than ever, we can’t do this without you. And the cause is so worthwhile. Weregularly hear from adults who have been through our programs as teenagers. They tell us about their families, how well life has turned out forthem, and how Youth Home made the difference. I am driven every day by the deep conviction that every life has value. That simply meansthat every person has potential and the ability to make positive contributions to their communities. For some, it’s just more difficult to find thatpath. That’s where we step in to help. Youth Home has helped thousands find their footing in life. Your support has a direct impact on those lives. In these pages you will find some of the significant accomplishmentsof the past year. But again, there is much left to do. I am excitedabout our future and hope you will be too as all of us work togetherto equip and empower those impacted by mental illness to find thepath to their potential and the tools to follow it with confidence. I spend my weeks taking care of sick pa ents and my weekends taking care ofmy family. I am a regular, normal, mother who works hard and loves her children fiercely. Our story began four years ago with a phone call from the guidance counselor. She called to tell me that Maria was foundcu ng her wrist with rocks at school. We immediately began therapy. Over me, Maria just got worse and worse. Shebecame unable to par cipate in social situa ons. Eventually, she started failing in school and was unable to cope in thehome. Since then she had been hospitalized nine mes in an acute psychiatric hospital for suicide a empts, suicidalidea on, and self-harm. She is currently in her second stay at Youth Home.Youth Home has been a blessing from God for our family. The tragedy of Maria’s situa on is simply that her depression is sodebilita ng and prevents her from remaining safely in the home. Youth Home has provided a safe place for my daughter tostay and get the treatment she needs. This is priceless!!! No parent wants to bury their child or live with a child’s suicide. Iam so grateful for Youth Home and all those whose help make Youth Home a reality. - Rebecca, Youth Home ParentYouth Home 2014 Annual Report | 10
