ENGLISH 1 Objetivo You will learn how to introduce yourself and how to talk about you. You will know how to say hello and good- bye. Furthermore, you will be able to exchange personal information like your name, phone number, and e-mail address; even useful and basic skills like spelling your name or thank people. I n t r od u c t ion Hello! Welcome to your first level of English 1. In this first session, you will learn the alphabet and how to spell your name. You will also learn how to introduce yourself using the personal pronouns and the verb tobe. By the end of this first session, you will be able to talk about you and your personal information with yes/no and wh questions, like: “where do you live?” or “what is your e-mail address?” At Universidad Tecnológica Santa Catarina, we hope you enjoy this class and find these basic language skills useful in your future life. 1 . - Alphabet My ABC The first thing to learn on a language class is the alphabet. Here’s a website to practice the correct pronunciation of the English alphabet. We invite you to practice each letter until your pronunciation is clear and correct. MEETING PEOPLE 3. - Personal pronouns Personal pronouns are used to substitute the names of the people or things that perform actions. There is no distinction between singular and plural forms of “you”. These are the personal pronouns: Singular Plural I We You You He } They She It Examples She is a student. We are in my house. Here’s how to conjugate it: Affirmative: Negative: I am = I’m I am not = I’m not You are = You’re You are not = You aren’t He is = He’s He is not = He isn’t She is = She’s She is not = She isn’t It is = It’s It is not = It isn’t We are = We’re We are not = We aren’t You are = You’re You are not = You aren’t They are = They’re They are not = They aren’t Examples: I am a student at UTSC. In this session, you will learn how to structure both types of questions in Simple Present. MEETING PEOPLE 5.2 WH questions WH questions are usually used to ask for information. These words are often referred to as WH words because they include the letters WH (WHy, HoW). ENGLISH 1 The structure of this type of questions is the same as the yes / no questions, but you have to add the WH words. Wh questions Auxiliary verb Subject (personal Verb or pronoun/who does complement the action) Answers are also different.
