ARTS EDUCATION FOR SCHOOLS - TERM 1 2018 SUMMER CLASS KICK STARTS!Kick-start the 2018 SUMMER term with a celebration of identity in 3Dcardboard construction, colour and collage. Tell summer stories in printand explore concepts of culture in paint, dance and drum. All in ourdynamic Term One workshops.Back to school means new classes, new friends and new environments toexplore through creative learning opportunities on offer here at Corban EstateArts Centre. Create a class 'photo' of portraits constructed out of cardboard.Explore ideas around identity and culture through collage, oil pastel, or printand paint to tell your own summer story. ART WORKSHOPS FOR TERM 1: TANGAROA AND PAUA AGE RANGE : NE + TIME :3 hours long ( Including 20 minute break for morning tea) CAPACITY : Min. 23 - Max. 60 students FEE : $8.50 plus GST Inspired by the story of Tangaroa & Paua students will compose finished creations through collage of a mixed media process. Each student will work with paint then pastel watercolour art techniques while developing practical knowledge and imaginative ideas along the way.CARDBOARD SELFIEAGE RANGE: Y3 +TIME : 3 hours long ( includes a 20minbreak for morning tea )CAPACITY: Min. 23 - Max. 60 studentsFEE: $8.50 plus GSTBased on the relief carving technique, studentswill create a cardboard self-portrait. This is agreat technique to learn to build from 2D to 3Dand also learn about facial features. Back atschool, these life-size cardboard busts can beassembled into a class portrait, banner or mobile.

AGE RANGE: Y NE + TIME: 2 hours long CAPACITY: Min. 23 - Max. 60 students FEE: $8.50 plus GST In this workshop, we explore what real or imagined creature we might like to be, why, and create what kind of environment we may live in. Using oil pastels, we will sketch and draw and colour and blend, seeing where these pastels can take us. Watercolour paint comes in to play with a painted wash finale to bring it all together.SUMMER STEPPIN'AGE RANGE: Y 2 +TIME: 3 hours long ( includes a 20 minutebreak for morning tea. )CAPACITY: Min. 23 - Max. 30 studentsFEE: $ 10.50 plus GSTDuring the course of this busy workshopparticipants will experience multiple printingtechniques designed to express themselvesthrough the humble jandal. Students monoprintthrough our large press, relief print and stampas well as create a stencil block from which theywill compose a finished work with a limitedEdition of 1. PACIFICA EXPERIENCE AGE RANGE: Y1 - 13 TIME: 2 hours long CAPACITY: Min. 23 - Max. 110 students FEE: $8.50 plus GST In this workshop students learn how Pacifica music, songs and movements convey stories and pass on lessons of cultural identity and Pacifica protocols. The workshop will be held at the Pacifica Arts Centre at Corban Estate and is run by the Mamas. Students will be introduced to musical instruments of the Pacific and learn drum patterns and dance movements. FEATURE ARTIST WORKSHOPS: FLOWERS from the MIDNIGHT GARDEN AGE RANGE: Y NE - Y13 TIME: 2 hours long CAPACITY: Min. 30 - Max. 60 students FEE: $14.50 plus GST WITH CERAMICIST KAIRAVA GULLATZ Inspired by the vibrant sculptural work of Yayoi Kusama students will design and shape their very own fantastical midnight flower sculpture. The ceramic forms will be glazed and fired making their sculptures fully functional for nighttime use with a mini LED or candle. Students will learn hand building techniques and will decorate their sculpture using several different clay colours. . SCULPTURAL CREATIONS AGE RANGE: Y3 - Y8 TIME: 2 hours long CAPACITY: Min. 40 - Max. 60 students FEE: $11.50 plus GST 3D CONSTRUCTION WITH FOUND MATERIALS ARTIST ANDREW HALL Andrew will explain the reasons he uses found materials, and how he draws new life from discarded objects. Students will develop their imagination and inventive skills to create their very own weird and wacky creation, from an array of interesting materials and A master of ingenuity and improvisation he is experienced at working with students to assemble 3-D sculptures from recycled, man- made ‘found’ materials. Andrew Hall is an artist who is passionate about sustainability and recycling. joining techniques.

MY VERY MODERN T-SHIRT AGE RANGE: Y NE - Y 13 TIME : 3 hours long (including a 20 min break for morning tea) CAPACITY: Min. 30 - Max. 60 students FEE: $14.50 plus GST (T-shirt included) WITH FABRIC & TEXTILE ARTIST KATIE SMITH In this dynamic workshop with textile artist Katie Smith, students will explore the use of pattern inspired by famous artists including Juan Miro, Jackson Pollock, Henri Matisse and Yayoi Kusama. Students will gain an understanding of stencilling and masking shapes to make patterns on their T- shirts and use textile inks to create their own wearable masterpiece. T-shirts are awesome! She has been involved across the Artssector as a Producer and Coordinator , and is currently studying for her Masters inCreative Writing through Massey University.Ruth Woodbury is our Arts Educator. She has extensive experience as an educator andartist. She has a broad range of skills with a focus on traditional Maori techniques andphilosophies. She is able to teach in Te Reo Maori.Eilis Galuszewski is a skilled Educator and creative technician..
