EXHIBITIONS 5 Vicki Bradley, From the Earth (2020) Beginning, Ending, Transformation Fri 29 May Margaret Chapman, Vicki Bradley, - Sun 19 July Phil Weight A new decade unfolds, the earth is acknowledged and as Matariki rises in the night sky, time is taken to reflect on what has been, contemplate the present and plan the year - the next cycle of time. This exhibition celebrates historical connections and the relationships between people and their cultures through the mediums of textile and wood. The makers’ works are created from carefully sourced materials, gifted and accumulated, repurposed and recycled.

He Puawaitia: Coming to fruition Fri 24 July Lissy and Rudi Robinson-Cole - Sun 13 September The practice of husband and wife duo Lissy and Rudi Robinson-Cole Opening is full of extraordinary colour, energy and life. Thu 23 July 6pm - 8pm Through sculptural crocheted forms and the 'kaupapa of joy', there is a sense of gifting from their tupuna in their works. Using neon CEAC.ORG.NZ colours, textures, and shapes, they connect a love and exploration of crochet with their hopes of sharing more contemporary understandings of Mātauranga Māori.

8 JULY / AUGUST / SEPTEMBER 2020 Each of our exhibitions in the Homestead Galleries is accompanied by free public programmes, providing different ways to engage with the ideas and artworks. For families, we have our monthly Saturday Gallery Club — fun and free art- making sessions for kids on the second Saturday of each month. Exploring a different topic and set of techniques each time, the activities are designed for children aged four years and over, and run for around 30 minutes. 10 JULY / AUGUST / SEPTEMBER 2020 Alongside our exhibitions and education programmes, Corban Estate presents a number of public events throughout the year. We are fortunate to have the facilities to be able to host a range of events, big and small, including the performing arts, workshops, film screenings and large festivals. This quarter due to Covid-19 we have less events on offer than usual but we are happy to provide the space for youth in our regular Let's Talk About It event. EVENTS CEAC.ORG.NZ

Let’s Talk About It Thu 30 July 7pm - 9pm For some young people, the journey to adulthood can be fraught with emotional or mental health challenges. ADULT WORKSHOPS 12 JULY / AUGUST / SEPTEMBER 2020 CEAC.ORG.NZ Adult workshops are a great way to stimulate your creativity and develop your passion for the arts. We offer sessions covering a range of mediums, contemporary arts practices and skill levels to cater for all abilities — whether you’re a beginner or looking to take your creativity in a new direction, experienced tutors will guide and inspire you to create in our supportive, studio environments. The six to eight-week term workshops offer a deeper experience, allowing you to develop and build your skills alongside like-minded classmates. Or try a weekend workshop, the perfect way to explore and experiment with new mediums and art forms and encourage discoveries. Different workshops are on offer each term so keep checking the website for upcoming new courses.

ADULT WORKSHOPS 13 Matariki Whales Tooth Pounamu 1 Day Maha Tomo Sun 12 July 9.30am - 5pm In celebration of Matariki, come and enjoy a fun day creating a Pounamu whale’s tooth pendant in this tikanga based contemporary $180 workshop. Participants will learn about pounamu and be introduced to a new skill set through the design process, using grinders, drills, Includes all materials wet and dry sanding techniques and polishing tools while also learning lashing and binding techniques used in Maori object art. Please bring kai for shared lunch

14 JULY / AUGUST / SEPTEMBER 2020 Adventures in Abstract Painting James Lawrence This term workshop with James explores abstract painting concepts and caters to every level. Students will learn techniques utilising acrylic paints, gels and additives. Demonstrations and discussions will cover colour, form and composition as each week is filled with discovery and painting adventures. 8 weeks $200 Thu mornings 23 July - 10 September Includes most materials 9.30am - 12.30pm Maximum 9 students ALL LEVELS Pounamu Marama Workshop Maha Tomo Learn about the practices associated with Māori arts whilst creating a Marama Taonga in this all-day workshop. Using, grinders, drills, wet and dry sanding, and polishing tools participants will design and carve their own pendant. Traditional Polynesian binding and lashing techniques will complete the pendant so it’s ready to wear. 1 Day $150 Sun 26 July 9.30am - 5pm Please bring kai for shared lunch ALL LEVELS Clay Explorations Kairava Gullatz Is there something you’ve always wanted to shape in clay? Whether it’s functional or sculptural, now is the time to delve into creative ventures. This workshop offers the opportunity to experiment with a variety of modelling techniques where you can discover your unique way of handling clay, as well as enjoy sharing time with fellow creatives. WEEKEND WORKSHOPS 15 Relief Glass Casting ALL LEVELS Sofia Athineou 3 Days Explore the art of relief glass casting in this educational and fun Sat 22 & Sun 23 August workshop. 9.30am - 5pm Catering for ALL levels, learn the basics of the lost wax method, Sat 5 September creating beautiful simple relief glasswork. Work with wax, clay 10am - 2pm and a variety of materials to explore different methods of shape construction. Build moulds, developing an understanding of positive $325 and negative space over the weekend. After works have been fired students will reconnect for a final morning of de-moulding, cleaning Includes all materials and polishing creations. Maximum 10 students

YOUTH WORKSHOPS 16 JULY / AUGUST / SEPTEMBER 2020 CEAC.ORG.NZ Youth Arts Workshops are a great way for young people to explore and experiment with a range of different art forms. These July holidays participants can choose from graffiti writing, bone carving, acting, acetate paintings and music-making. Participants can challenge themselves creatively through inspiring one or two-day workshops. Set at a low cost, with some fully sponsored places these workshops are a great way to spend the holidays. YOUTH WORKSHOPS 17 The Art of Graffiti Writing 13 - 18 YEARS Bobby Hung 2 Days With over 15 years of graffiti painting experience, Bobby will Wed 15 & Thu 16 July guide students to develop technical skills in spray painting, an 10am - 3pm understanding of the fundamentals in lettering, and an insight into a graffiti writers working process. $30 By the end of the workshop, you will have painted your first graffiti Includes all materials piece. 18 JULY / AUGUST / SEPTEMBER 2020 Bone Carving 13 - 18 YEARS Maha Tomo 1 Day Have fun creating a bone carving in this tikanga based contemporary Fri 10 July workshop. You will be introduced to a new skill set through the 10am - 3pm carving design process, using grinders, drills, wet and dry sanding techniques and polishing tools. YOUTH WORKSHOPS 19 The Drama Club Suli Moa This acting workshop is a fun introduction to drama with an exploration of technique through games and playful exercises. Don’t miss the opportunity to work with Suli Moa, a renowned award-winning playwright, actor and the Director of youth theatre group Westside Tales. Suitable for all levels. 2 Days Mon 13 & Tue 14 July 10am - 3pm 13 - 18 YEARS 13 - 18 YEARS Acetate Paintings Leela Bhai In Acetate Paintings participants will begin by selecting imagery of personal significance and learn to arrange them in compositions that consider scale, balance, foreground and middle ground. Using acetate film they will then paint over their chosen composition and start working in detail to represent people, places or objects. This image will then be overlaid on abstract backgrounds, painted in ways to express the individual significance or symbolism of the painter. 1 Day Wed 8 July 10am - 3pm 13 - 18 YEARS Beats ‘n’ Lyrics Abraham Kunin Explore songwriting methods and performance in a two-day workshop touching on both creative and practical elements of the music-making process. Participants will be split into groups to put these concepts into practice, composing and performing their own original songs. Within the industry, Abraham works as a producer, songwriter, guitarist, and recording engineer. He is a band member with Home Brew and Teeks. CHILDRENS WORKSHOPS 20 JULY / AUGUST / SEPTEMBER 2020 CEAC.ORG.NZ Childrens Holiday Art Workshops are a fun and inspiring way to explore and experiment with visual arts these school holidays. Workshops take place in an art studio setting with experienced tutors and artists. The course fees include all materials. Term workshops are a chance for children to delve deeper into arts techniques and creative mediums. Set in our art studios, children work closely with and learn from inspiring, practising artists. CHILDREN / HOLIDAY WORKSHOPS 21 Blue Whale Dessert Bowls Kairava Gullatz Anything ‘unusual’ is good enough for our designs! We will make our very special dessert bowls from soft white clay. The vessels will be adorned with 3D applications, carvings and colourful decorations. A pottery wheel is available to enjoy throwing small vessels too. Everything will be glazed and fired to make all works durable and usable. 2 Days $95 Mon 6 & Tues 7 July 10am - 2.30pm 6 - 12 YEARS 6 - 12 YEARS Creative Drama Tessa Mitchell Have fun with classic drama games and exercises that explore movement, the voice, and storytelling through theatrical scenes. Work in groups, pairs and also solo, finding and forming stories and characters through the use of costumes, masks and puppets. 2 Days Mon 6 & Tue 7 July 10am - 2.30pm Fly Sky High Kairava Gullatz Budding young artists are invited to shape airplanes, rockets, hot air balloons or birds, using soft clay. 22 JULY / AUGUST / SEPTEMBER 2020 Fly Your Own Flag 6 - 10 YEARS Sylvia Marsters 1 Day Students will explore and identify visual symbols of personal Thu 9 July significance. Using fabric paint, these chosen images or objects of 10am - 2.30pm great importance will be painted on a large scale piece of fabric to create a cloak, flag or banner. CHILDREN / HOLIDAY WORKSHOPS 23 Tick Tock Clock Chloe Lam Create your own unique working clock incorporating geometric patterns, organic shapes and hand-drawn doodles. Students will be using paint, drawing and collage to create a fun colourful clock to take home and decorate their room with. 1 Day Fri 10 July 10am - 2.30pm 5 - 10 YEARS 6 - 12 YEARS Motor-vehicles + Garage Stops Andrew Hall Cars, truck-stops and motor-vehicles! Come into artist Andrew Hall’s workshop and spend the day assembling cars, motorbikes and imaginary cars. Do they have pedals or engines and maybe a cool driver inside?! Construct a car-port and get lost in a world of recyclable treasures. 1 Day Wed 15 July 10am - 2.30pm Eye Jumping Abstracts Jean Stewart Taking influence from the renowned American painter Jonathan Lasker students will explore his particular playful flavour of abstraction. Using acrylic paint on a primed board and utilising Impasto techniques, layering and editing, each student will create their own considered abstract painting, taking home a bright jumpy piece of abstract art. 1 Day Thu 16 July 10am - 2.30pm 7 - 12 YEARS

24 JULY / AUGUST / SEPTEMBER 2020 Learn 2 Draw 7 - 13 YEARS Julie Moselen 6 Weeks This workshop is designed to give children a broad understanding, knowledge and skill base for them to learn how to draw. Time will Option 1: be spent studying light and shade, contrast, and rendering.
