EXHIBITIONS 5 Robert George, A Memoir for Falling Light 2 (2017), detail. Courtesy of artist. A Memoir For Falling Light (The VHS Remix) Fri 1 November Robert George - Sun 1 December Robert George’s work is typified by his love of surrealist cinema, the Opening Thu 31 materiality of film and a constant exploration of the human condition. October 6-8pm George’s deliberate multi-perspective approach works against the binary logic of what is real or imagined, privileging a plurality of events unfolding at any one moment to destabilise the idea of a single logic. The concept of ‘cinema time’ and ‘dream time’ become potential devices to think through time from an indigenous position, opening out what it means to approach death, and what it might mean to remember.

Patterns are some of the first things you notice as a child. Patterns reflect and tie you directly to your culture and the environment; Tapa and Tatau are the fabrics of our collective society which I explore in this exhibition focusing on unique patterns and motifs through print, paint and stencil techniques.” Fri 1 November Opening Thu 31 October - Sun 1 December 6-8pm Michel Tuffery, Albatross (2019), detail. Tuffs’ Poly Fonts Michel Tuffery The ubiquity of the alphabet assumes a particular character and purpose in Michel Tuffery’s Poly Fonts, a visual diary of stories told during the first years of his granddaughter’s life. Long an advocate for environmental protection and creative pedagogy, Michel’s letters illustrate his continual journeys from Bluff to Cape Reinga, and from Aotearoa to the creatures, islands, and voyagers of the great Moana. From Albatross to Yellow-eyed hoiho, he presents an ethic of care and call to action; and an invitation to share your own stories in the gallery space. Fri 1 November Opening Thu 31 October - Sun 1 December 6-8pm “A is for albatross, gliding on high, CEAC.ORG.NZ He carries the sea in the tears that he cries.” – Michel Tuffery.

Solid as a Rock Fri 6 December 2019 Group Show - Sun 9 February 2020 Aotearoa has become home to many Pacific Island communities, Opening Thu 5 with more Niuean people living in Aotearoa than on the island of December, 6-8pm Niue. With a residential population of around 1600, the island known as the ‘Rock’ of the Pacific continues to develop its unique culture and distinct national identity despite the low number of residents actually living there. This exhibition conveys journeys of connection, revival, sustaining and celebrating culture through the perspective of Niuean artists living in both Aotearoa and Niue. Through printmaking, painting, textiles, embroidery, sculpture, text, language and moving image work, they tell their stories.
