Reasons for not paying attention to elderly 1) Advancement in technology With the attachment to mobile phones and electronic devices, it is difficult for Singaporeans to spent enough time bonding with elderly and this leads to distant relationships over time. 2) Limited time and stress left after work Nowadays, almost everyone holds a job to maintain financial well in Singapore, a high cost country. Many time will be spend and work and some may bring the work back home and the stress from work. 3) Underestimate the needs of an elderly Some of the people are used that their parents are capable of handle everything themselves and did not realise that their parents are getting older as they grow up.

Solutions to care for the elderly1)Making more time for the elderly-Families can show personal care and concern towards the elderly.-Making time for them even if it is short.Eg, a short trip to the market or going for a 20 minutes slow walk with grandparents.( Refer to page 6 the booklet include trails and activities suitable for family bonding )2) Communicate more -Manage lifestyle better, it creates room for effective communication. Eg, not using mobile phones during dinner time instead use the time to chat to the elderly.3) Pay attention to non-verbal behaviours - Important to take note of the non-verbal behaviours of the elderly - Both body language as well as their facial expressions. It allows the family members to know what the elderly really feels.
