Practical engineering refers to thedesign and development ofprojects using the experience andpractical knowledge of the industry, acquired through years of thepractical work in various fields ofengineering. Practical engineeringencompasses all stages of theproject: the pragmatic design ofprojects allows smootherfabrication, testing and distribution.Practical Engineering Queensland
Practical engineering is valued over alternatives for the followingreasons: It provides a smoother transition from design to development Intimate understanding of manufacturing processes negates the need for independentcontractors Practical application of technology within the context of experience Practical Engineering QueenslandPractical engineering carries with it the guarantee of quality assurance. An engineering firm experienced in the practical nature of design andcertification will not require any consulting on the legitimacy of apractical design, nor on an independent certification on the practicalapplications of a product.
Practical Engineering Queenslandtheoretical engineering is concerned only with the technological design ofthe product. While a vital part of the project, it does not consider allpractical aspects of an engineering task. Practical engineering involvesitself beyond the design, into the practical engineering tasks required tobring a project from design to distribution. These include: Design Modelling Certification Manufacturing Sales and Distribution
RPEQ Certification QueenslandTo best understand the need for RPEQ Certification and its relationshipto Australian Standards compliance, a basic understanding of thelegislative rules and regulations is required. These rules vary slightlyfrom state to state, on-shore to offshore and can also be effecteddepending on the type of site or lease (Petroleum, Gas, Mining orbuilding). However, there is a common idea of ensuring the safety ofplant and who‟s liable for that responsibility. For example the WHSQregulation states:
RPEQ Certification Queensland“Manufactures must ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, that the plant is manufactured without risks to the health andsafety to people”This statement considers importers to have the sameresponsibility as manufactures and also implies designers tohave a share. The same regulation also draws owners andmanagers of plant into the same duty of care, stating:“A person conducting a business unit has a duty of care toensure the health and safety of workers while they are at workin the business or undertaking.”Within Queensland, the obligations of plant safety has becomeentwined into the Professional engineers Act (RPEQ). In that;“…when a professional engineering service is carried out in, orfor Queensland, that the work is done or supervised by anRPEQ engineer”. And that a; “…professional engineeringservice is defined as a service that requires, or is based on, theapplication of engineering principals and data to design, or toa construction, production, operation or maintenance activity, relating to engineering.”
So when considering the breadth of those statements, the need for RPEQCertification becomes more obvious. That is, RPEQ supervision is requiredwhen plant is manufactured or modified in Queensland or specifically forQueensland. The inspection and assessment for continued safe use ofvarious items of plant will also fall under the „professional engineeringservices‟ and most commonly applied to major inspection periods oncranes and amusement rides. Proof of RPEQ supervision is mosteffectively achieved through independent engineering assessment andissue of a RPEQ Certificate. RPEQ Certification Queensland
Engineering Certification QueenslandEngineering certification is vital to the success of a product. Thecertification of a product assures the quality and longevity of itsoperation against the reputation of the certifier, and highlights thevalidity of the provider. Certification also offers accountability, reliability, and a competitive advantage to the owner of the productor service.Certification standards are set by independent agencies, such asAustralian Standards. These standards are checked and governed byseparate local and national testing agencies, to avoid a conflict ofinterest.Certification of a product or service broadcasts that the provider ormanufacturer adheres to an international standard set by an impartialcommittee. It can foster a trust between the manufacturer and theconsumer.
Engineering Certification QueenslandBy certifying a product or service, the provider accepts liability forits performance. Certification of a product tells consumers theprovider is confident in the product, and ties the operation of theproduct to the reputation of the provider.Regular inspections of the product and updates to the legislationmean the product is continuously certified.IFCE has certified many products within the context of reliability:from Drill Rigs to High Ropes Courses, lifting lugs to pressure vessels.
Engineering Certification QueenslandCertification also offers a competitive advantage over uncertifiedproducts. Customers look for the product with the most qualityassurance. Testing and approval from an internationally recognizedcertification standard carries with it the highest vote of confidencepossible in a product.By certifying a product, the provider is displaying confidence in theproduct to the customer. It is for the above reasons engineering certification is considered mostimportant. For more information please call us on 07 3217 9207
