E-Mail [email protected] A big thank you to everyone who has contributed to this edition f of the magazine. I would like to start by saying a big Thank you to our Frontline medical staff and all the other sectors who have dealt with the impact of the coronavirus and also spare a thought to those who have fallen victim to the virus. Season Rewind I think I can speak for everyone that we are all missing football and whilst we are fed classics on TV nothing can beat being at the ground watching the game live, meeting up with your fellow fans and taking in the match day atmosphere but whilst we was so close on a historic end of season we can look back on some great moments like Jamie Hursit`s wonder goal or the amazing comeback against Sawbridgeworth from 2-0 down to the impact some of our new players have made since their arrival most notably Tom Anderson who just could not stop scoring before the season was halted. You can vote for your favourite goal here Opinions and views in this magazine are purely individual and no offense meant to anyone
Mums the word…. Hi my name is Sindy Carmichael Brown I am The hospitality manager of the great football team Hashtag United and very proud mother of Spencer ,Sebastian and Saunders My role in the club is to be informed of when people are travelling a long distance to come and watch one of our games so I can meet them So far we have had visitors from Australia, Canada Russia, Dubai, Norway and Finland, USA, Greece Ireland and many other places within the UK Like Manchester Portsmouth Warwickshire, Wales and Scotland Many of our fans have been with us from the day we started in the league and have been with us for every game perhaps missing only when ill and that makes me very proud of them. They are extended family We have a certain little group who like to make a lot of noise with the drum and other instruments that will make a loud noise as well as their voices!! One of the things that I think I am most proud Of in Hashtag United Is the fact that our team and fans are such nice people. I guess like attracts like Every match I get to the game say hi to Manjinder on the gate And hi to people like Tony who are always there and I’m always so pleased to see. I proceed to the kitchen area to make sure that the officials have some form of refreshment upon arrival and then I prepared the halftime drinks for the visitors and our own team As I say I like to get to meet the visitors and do my best to introduce them to the team management and players. Other officials that I look after our visitors from the league or chair people from the other team At half-time we take the visitors into a large room where we are able to offer them refreshments and to generally catch up we have had some great compliments from the visitors on our hospitality In March this year I was kindly nominated to be mum of the club of other clubs in our league and thanks to many kind people and lots of lovely votes got 92% and was named the winner Continued on the next page
Stevie CB he is the physio for the club and my husband we sometimes travel to the club together but he has to be at the club a lot earlier than me to ensure that any players who need treatment can be looked at So after I have cleared up the visitors things from the Chairman‘s room at half-time I then go and clear up the changing rooms from the drinks that I had left them in the officials room tidy the kitchen and put everything away to then get ready to go over to the other side and start preparing the heart the full-time meal. We like to give A fairly healthy meal at the end of the game which is normally pasta in a tomato/onions sauce it is very popular and certainly a lot better than pizza and chips When the players have all eaten it is a case of clean up the plates cutlery plan in which the food was cooked and leave the kitchen tidy for next time I then gather up things like the drums and other symbols that the fans may have used to put away on a mid week game it can be a late night after not getting home before midnight I recently retired from full-time work but then came the lockdown which unfortunately has meant I haven’t been to many games in my retirement Talking of the lockdown I have been trying to keep myself busy by playing table tennis with Stephen. We walk the dog every day Our village has a red and green card system which means if you are okay you put your green card in the window and if you need help you put a red card in the window so when out walking we look in the windows to ensure people are getting by in these difficult times Stephen And many other Hashtag players or managers are part of a running leaguer trying g to keep fit I have been knitting some cannula covers for premature babies in hospital and recently started a project of knitting stillborn baby cot covers it is very rewarding doing something positive and giving something back I have two elderly and frail parents my mother is 88 and my father is 89 They don’t live very local but my brother and I take it in turns to deliver vital groceries to them and contact them every day to ensure they are well unfortunately they do not do technology so the only time they get to see the rest of the family is when I go over and take my phone and do WhatsApp calls so they can all speak together Of course during the lockdown there has been lots of exciting News-about Our Hashtag United Ladies team and our new youth team I cannot wait to meet them all when we actually come out of this lockdown So when we are up and running again please do come and say hello to me until then Keep Safe. Love Sindy x

Oi Ref! Refs get a lot of stick in football sometimes as a fan you feel it is warranted so I thought I`d get some viewpoints from one our fans Matthew Dillon who has been a referee and his opinion on the game as it is as now. As we know VAR has spoilt the game and taken decisions away from the on pitch officials. By doing that it has not made the decision making any better At the level we watch the standard is average. We have seen a lot of baffling decisions this season as well as non decisions. It seems the refs have met their level . I would like to see younger refs who are hungry to climb the ladder.therefore making the decisions and having the fitness to make the game fair. There is nothing more frustrating than a non decision. The most difficult game was between The united medical and dental school (UMDS) verus The University of Lille in Dulwich Before the game I was told only the Captain of Lille could speak understand English. Which I thought wow this is going to be awkward Though the was billed as a friendly there was no love lost between the two teams I had to speak to most of the players from both teams via the captain for lillie that also included words with him, I also cautioned 2 from each team The game remained 0-0 until the 89th minute when I awarded a penalty to UMDS Well the Lille players to a man suddenly became English speakers telling me I was wrong to award the penalty After close to 10 minutes and a telling off from me and their Professor the penalty was taken
The UMDS captain took it he hit the ball so hard that it hit the bar of the lillie goal that the ball bounced into the centre circle in the UMDS half where there was one Lille player was standing by himself he collected the ball ran unopposed and shot pass the UMDS goalkeeper to score the only goal. The UMDS kick off 30 seconds later it was full time I was told by some of UMDS players I had spoilt the game but the Lillie players congratulated me on my performance Even more so there was hardly a protest to any of the penalties I remember the Manager of the team who had conceded the penalties saying after the game normally I would have had ago at the ref and complained about 5 penalties being awarded against us But I cant they where the right decision and you had a really good game. Unfortunately a few weeks later I injured by ankle that lead to a back injury that subsequently ended my chances of making the league list which I was aiming for and I became very despondent and stopped refereeing for a long time I started up again a few seasons later but it wasn't the same knowing the injury I had was going to stop me from making the league list Im not blowing my own trumpet but I was a really good referee It's a shame the injury I still have, spoilt my refereeing career. How some of our team are dealing with Lockdown Devs - On a personal level I’m coping ok with the lockdown. I’m fortunate that I am able to work from home and there’s the positive of being able to spend lots of time with my family. It’s a challenge for us all though and I have good and bad days similar to most people I’d imagine. I’m trying to keep myself active by doing lots of running. I find that it helps me feel healthy emotionally as well as physically. We have a club group on n exercise app and that helps us to motivate each other. From a Hashtag point of view we haven’t let the lockdown prevent us from making progress and have been very busy building for our future with the joining of the men’s, women’s and youth sections. It’s all very exciting and we can’t wait to be able to return to football when the time's right with teams representing Hashtag United from 5 or 6 years old right up to the respective 1st teams. Farai Tsingano - I am doing alright to be fair. Trying to trim lockdown into a positive as much as I can by working out , running and enjoying quality time with family. Albie Keith - Lockdown isn’t treating me to bad, I’m still working so that keeps me busy in the day and I’m trying to keep as active as I can! I’ve even got my dad doing workouts with me Harry Honesty - I’m coping with it well missing the changing room and the bants and the game ... but I have just been working from home so not much has changed for me day to day

For those wondering what AFC Basildon are like here is a look at one of the highlights of their season. I caught up with Devs just to see if I can get some early gossip on pre season friendlies, but with the current situation nothing can be confirmed but as soon as any dates come up they will be on all of the key social media platforms. But on sad news we said goodbye to Luke Wilson who has now left the club. The existing squad remain for the forthcoming season as it stands. I think it is fair to say we have a quality squad in all areas of the squad. We have Jack Harrison our club captain back along with Jamie Jackson giving us some great competition for places. So when we finally get going again with a brand new season we aim to carry on where we left off and hopefully we can add some more silverware. With the additions of the women's team and the Youth set up we have lots of positives and we have had some great feedback to the additions on social media proves the club is definitely going in the right direction.
