NCC happens to be that empowering springboard where many youngsters realise their potential, challengetheir limitations, and pick up a positive attitude. At Christ University, NCC holds a pride of place. There is a respect that cadets in uniform command. Enthused by the support offered by the NCC officers and Christ University Management, cadets of 2/9 Coy excel in the varied domains of NCC. Message from Vice Chancellor I’m delighted to write the foreword for this compilation on 2/9 Coy NCC at Christ University! NCC is an articulation of our country’s aspirations. It is an enabling space. Having been a cadet, I’m aware of how NCC instills patriotic values, stresses on the importance of unity and discipline, offers plentiful opportunities to harness one’s potential and bond with fellow cadets coming from diverse backgrounds. At Christ University, we have a natural philosophic alliance with the NCC. Our core values beautifully blend with that of the National Cadet Corps. The journey of NCC in our campus best exemplifies this: 2/9 Coy NCC got inaugurated in the same year the institution was founded – 1969. Further, around 50 cadets from our Company have joined the Indian Defence Forces in the best interest of the nation. There has also been a regular stream of cadets from our campus who have made it to the RDC, TSC, NCC National Games and the YEP. As someone who has seen the growth of NCC at Christ, I see this initiative as yet another document of our commitment to Nation-Building. I would also like to mention that Christ University is deeply respectful and grateful to the generous support offered by the 9 Karnataka NCC Battalion and the NCC Directorate of Karnataka and Goa. Let me take this opportunity to share my warm wishes and congratulations to all in the NCC fraternity and to the makers of this book! Sincerely, Col Dr Fr Thomas C Mathew Vice Chancellor, Christ University March On... | NCC 2017

Message from Commanding Officer It gives me immense pleasure to see the initiative taken by the cadets to treasure their experiences through the written medium. I am very sure that people will learn and be motivated through the experiences of these young brave hearts. The NCC is a very different academic life which inculcates discipline, courage, confidence in young minds. Especially in Karnataka, NCC is a way of life for students. I am proud and glad to have been a fatherly figure to the young cadets and guide them in the path that they have chosen. I wish them a promising life and a life well served. I am sure that these vast experiences of the cadets will enlighten the young society and motivate them to follow a life filled with purpose. Jai Hind! Words from the Company Commander Change can come in many forms in our lives. It might come forcefully like a tidal wave, or creep along incrementally like a glacier. It might come in the form of tragedies, difficult choices or even new opportunities. In my life it came as a change from Miss to Lieutenant. This change reshaped my identity and put me on a journey of adventures. Having been an NCC cadet, it was always a dream for me to become an officer and wear those stars on my shoulders with pride. I must say it boosts my soul to do more for my country. More importantly, it has enabled me to be a catalyst. For 15 years,I have been in the teaching profession and it is with the support of Christ University that I got the chance to fulfill my dream. I am forever grateful to them as I am the Commander of the 2/9 Coy. NCC has metamorphised my life into a life less ordinary. Whether it was at OTA or at various camps like the Himalayan Mountaineering Course or the Bike Expeditions, I have been exposed to the best! I could not have done all this without the support of my family, the Christ University Management and the cadets who have meant so much to me. I am forever grateful to the Almighty for constantly showering me with His blessings. I also submit my gratitude to the 9 Karnataka Battalion NCC, and the NCC Directorate of Karnataka and Goa for being pillars of support. I am who I am, because of the National Cadet Corps. Win some, Lose some When the going gets tough, the tough get going! This voice that rings in my mind, gives me the courage to move ahead in NCC. I always dreamt of joining 2/9 Coy, Christ University during my school days and finally got an opportunity to be a part of this most prestigious Company with amazing legacy. I always dreamt of completing RDC during my four years in NCC but couldn’t do it because of numerous reasons. Nevertheless, I have got opportunities to attend various national and state level camps such as the Basic Leadership Camp, National Integration Camp - Raipur, SNIC - PM Rally, Delhi 2017 and numerous other NCC training camps. NCC has inspired me to join the Indian Armed Forces; it has given me immense knowledge and exposure to lead a brave and disciplined career. It has also made me realise that leadership is not just a position, but it’s more of action. It has carved me as a leader as well as a follower. NCC most importantly has given me friends and memories for life which will always be treasured. I would like to thank my Officers, family, friends and everyone who has helped me complete my career in NCC without any regrets. Vande Mataram! CSUO Asha S K March On... | NCC 2017

It’s Life-altering! NCC has transformed me in many positive ways! From being an inactive person to a more competitive person, from having no confidence to a super-charged confidence, from being unconsciously selfish to becoming a consciously selfless person, from being a plumpy girl to a fit and strong person….- in all ways and all forms, NCC has helped me become a truly better person! Camps took me to places far and near, on experiences that ranged from just camping fun, to outdoor activities, firing, obstacle courses and all with responsibilities of our own. Nobody was there to pamper us. This was great and subconsciously such a morale booster! Every single day of my life, I carry some energy, some positivity, and some moral strength and courage that the NCC has infused into me! JUO Kilari Sri Pujitha March On... | NCC 2017

Patriotic Fervour Initially I found it very strict and tough. But around the end of the first year of NCC, I learned never to give up and keep trying till I achieve. In the very second year, I tried for AITSC 2015 and cleared all the camps! But in the kitting camp, I picked up an ankle injury and couldn’t make it to Delhi. In my third year, I made it to TSC-1 and due to varied issues I couldn’t make it to Delhi again. But because of the support and guidance given by our CO and ANOs, I could fulfil my dreams of being a Delhi-Return cadet by going to National Games. I was made the SW senior for the contingent. And that’s the time when I had to instil fearlessness and the spirit of sports in my fellow cadets. And here comes my last camp which is SNIC Delhi 2017. I was a kuchipudi dancer during my school days. And I always wanted to do that. I had gone through selection procedure and finally could make it to Delhi with 10 fellow Christites. We learned other dance forms from other directorate cadets and have learned their tradition and culture. While singing the National Anthem that day, my eyes were filled with tears and heart was filled with patriotism. I can never forget that moment in my life. “YA TOH TIRANGA LEHRAKE AAUNGA, YA FIR TIRANGE MEIN LIPTA HUA AAUNGA,” the inspiring words which motivates me to join the Armed forces. Jai Hind! JUO Vaddadi Saisri March On... | NCC 2017

Try, Try, and Try Till You SucceedI was always passionate about the Indian Army. The uniform inspired me to join NCC. During my I year in NCC, I got a chance to attendCombined Annual Training Camp and National Integration Camp in Raipur. It was an amazing experience interacting with other directorate cadets and learning their culture. My II year in NCC gave me a lot of exposure. It taught me tobe a good leader and be punctual. It also taught me never to give up and always keep trying. When you feel like quitting, think about why you started. Some goals are so worthy, it's glorious even to fail. I also got a chance to attend the Prime Minister’s Rally 2017 through SNIC Delhi. It was an amazing experience. I would like to thank our officers and ANOs for all their guidance and support. Jai hind CPL Abhilasha Chawda March On... | NCC 2017

Confidence and Bravery My experience in the NCC has been pretty different and a matter of great pride and honour. The selection test we had on day one gave us an idea about how NCC would make me physically, mentally and emotionally strong. My two years in NCC comprises of many memories including training for the thal sainik camp, firing, drill for the Republic Day Camp, dancing in the Special National Integration Camp in front of the PM, and the Mountaineering Camp . Through NCC, we meet people from different backgrounds and more interaction is inevitable. This has made me more understanding, bold and confident. And, there is another year to go! I aspire to become a good leader in my life. And I'm positive that the support from the officers and seniors will help me achieve this. NCC has moulded me enough, I would soon try my best to bring it out to my juniors as well. Jai hind! CPL Dhaksha Bopaiah March On... | NCC 2017

Holistic Development Two years of NCC in Christ University has helped me in many ways. I have attended nine camps till now: three of TSC, four of RDC, Mountaineering Camp held at Darjeeling HMI, and SNIC camp held at Delhi. In SNIC, we got an opportunity to meet cadets from 16 other Directorates and learnt their dance forms in a week. We learnt Rifle Drill and even performed Silent Drill in which we made various formations out of drill. Apart from camps, NCC life in Christ has been wonderful. It has helped me in building stamina, instilled the importance of abiding by disciplinary codes and gain life-long experiences. CPL Nikitha M March On... | NCC 2017

The Best Decision of My Life Before joining NCC I was a girl who always wanted to enjoy life without any responsibility, work, etc. But after joining NCC, I have seen a sea change in myself . I do enjoy my life, but NCC has helped me become a responsible girl. A girl who can do a lot of hard work? Yes, it is the change I have seen happening to me! Camps like HMI and TSC, have helped me realise my physical strength as well. As I look back, I can without any doubt state that joining the NCC was one of the best decisions I have ever made! NCC - A Break From Academics I have learned many things from NCC such as discipline, self- confidence and responsibility. I have completed my TSC. My PI staff and ANO have trained me in such a way that I got nominated for the Firing Competition and got Gold Medal in Delhi. In various camps that I have attended, I have learnt to adapt to changes from the routine by using available resources to a great extent. I learnt Map Reading, Optical Training, Health and Hygiene and Tent Pitching. All these were so different from formal studies. We have been given various opportunities in NCC which has enabled me to become a better person. I was one of the cadets to do piloting and it was something that instilled a sense of pride in me. I am proud to be an NCC cadet. CPL Shalini Yadav March On... | NCC 2017

Find the Leader in YouI believe success is achieved by ordinary people with extraordinarydetermination. The first year in NCC was fun and adventurous. NCCtaught me to be punctual, follow discipline, and give respect and takerespect. In my second year I got a chance to try Thal Sainik Camp. TSChelped me to increase my stamina and also helped me to explore myhidden talents. NCC has taught me to never give up and always keeptrying. NCC always teaches leadership qualities. The task ahead of you isnever as great as the power behind you.I heartily thank our officers, ANOs, PI staff, and all my seniors who havehelped me learn different things and gain a positive outlook to life.Jai hindCPL Ayush Jain Life before and now The time I spend in NCC is more than the time I spend in anything else. There are lot of changes which occurred to me from how I was before andnow. One important thing I learnt from NCC was about 'Life'. It has taughtme from living in different places to being a responsible person in life. I've done more than 25 camps like CATC, BLC, RDC, AAC and YEP in which I've learnt many things in every single camp in the three years of NCC. From the way to apt with the situation, to strive hard for success. I thank all the officers who supported me in every way to become a good leader. A special thanks to Associate NCC Officers, Christ University, for helping and supporting me, not only in NCC but also in my education. Jai Hind SUO S H Ben Chrisbin March On... | NCC 2017

Moving from ‘I’ to ‘Team’ NCC has played a major role in shaping me. Being a part of NCC makes me feel way different from others. It has helped me reach greater heights which I thought would be impossible for me to achieve as an individual. I have completed the Thal Sainik Camp 2016 at Delhi, Basic Leadership Camp 2016 at Mysore and various other camps. It has educated me a lot more than formal education, as I have learned to live a life less ordinary than the others in a comfortable way. It has trained me to cope up with unfamiliar situations with confidence. Working as a team with discipline and never giving up have beensome of the greatest lessons I have learnt. I shall strive to learn more and develop myself and others into better individuals. SGT A Mary Supritha March On... | NCC 2017

A Journey of self-actualisation I had no idea what NCC was. I took it as a fun activity and enrolled and then after the parades, I realised the responsibility and one's duty towards the society. Along with this, we got great support from our ANOs, who helped us in all the ways and encouraged us every time. I got an opportunity to be part of an adventure camp in the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Darjeeling. This was a camp which exposed us to the beauty of nature, mountain climbing, rappelling, suspension traverse, etc. I was also lucky to represent the Karnataka & Goa Directorate in a National Integration Camp at Delhi, 2017. I was also a part of the Prime Minister’s Rally. NCC has helped me live up to the motto ‘Unity and discipline.’ I’m proud to be an NCC cadet! CPL Yogesh March On... | NCC 2017

Flashes of a life in the Army Being in the second year of NCC and completing two national camps is something which I never dreamt off. Army attachment camp - Secunderabad and SNIC - PM Rally Delhi are the two most prestigious camps I have completed in my career. Being an army aspirant, NCC has given me exposure to the maximum. Being a part of NCC Christ University has made me evolve as a more disciplined and responsible cadet. I am always proud of my Coy, Battalion and Group for all that it has done to mould me. My humble submission of gratitude to all the officers for supporting me. Jai Hind! CPL Chethan B N March On... | NCC 2017

With Head Held High All through these three years as a cadet, I have learnt a lot of life lessons. NCC has turned meinto something I never thought I could be. I have been a fairly messy person; I have been bad atorganizing and keeping my stuff clean and tidy. I learnt to keep everything organized and neat allthrough the multiple camps that I have attended. NCC, being closely related to the Indian Army has given me exposure into the life of an armyperson. This includes punctuality and grooming. These two are the greatest gifts that NCC has given me. I feel confident when I dress appropriately. Another important life skill NCC has taught me is the art of getting along with different kinds ofpeople. You automatically learn to respect people with different ideologies, cultures, ethnicities. It is a great high when you successfully complete a camp and develop camaraderie with a bunch of people you just met. NCC taught me all that. I am proud to have been an NCC cadet! The Best From the Best Being a part of NCC, is a matter of great pride and honour. NCC has always helped me stay motivated. It makes us mentally and emotionally strong to face all the challenges in life. Apart from this, it also instills discipline and a spirit of adventure. Most people of my age think that NCC is all about March Past and drills. But actually it is all about preparing us for a respectable future. My experience in NCC comprises of preparing myself for attachment camps, training for Vayu Sainik Camp, and taking part in the Republic Day Camp. It has been a long cherished dream and emerging as the Best Cadet at the All India Level was icing on the cake! Attending the Youth Exchange Programme, representing my country in Kazakhstan have all given me exposure to meet people from different backgrounds, be it socialor geographical. There is more of interaction which happens. And all these have given me immense knowledge to lead a brave and disciplined career. It is due to the collective effort of all the training officers and seniors that I was able to achieve my goals. I’m inspired enough to join the Armed Forces. Jai Hind! A Class ApartBy being in NCC, the very first thing you learn is discipline. If one becomes a well disciplined person, you will be ready to teach others what discipline means. NCC teaches you how to be a good leader. Not all turn into good leaders but at least they know how to deal with a crowd around them. It gives us a meaning and respect for the uniform we wear, as we are different from the civilians. The way we behave and the waywe present ourselves in front of others, changes. It motivates us toparticipate in different events. It reduces our stage fear and at the same time makes us a good public speakers. NCC isn't all about drill. It has so many other aspects. It conducts different types of camps where we can do trekking, mountaineering, firing, physical training, meet great personalities, dance, sing, etc. We get to learn many things whichwe generally won't get to learn as a civilian. As an NCC cadet, I am proud to be part of 2/9 coy. It makes me more responsible, loyal, punctual, self dependent and many more. This is the perfect platform for any talent we have. We can prove yourself. CPL Sourab B K March On... | NCC 2017

Message from an Ex Christite My most cherished memories in Christ College (as it was known then), was the time spent as a cadet in the NCC. We spent our Saturday mornings on the parade ground learning the nuances of drill and obedience to command, something which I imbibed and has helped me shape my outlook and motivation to live life. The rigour of the drill parade taught me punctuality, perseverance and a sense of commitment, while obedience to command shaped my ability to focus and direct my mind towards assigned tasks. It was the NCC that taught me to face challenges way beyond my comfort zone, since student life has an inane ability to confine your capabilities to the limits of your horizons! Attending camps and taking part in competitions gave me the impetus to be aware of my potential and also taught me the most valuable lesson in life - to learn to rise from failure and develop a 'never say die' attitude. I came across opportunities that helped me interact and compete with like-minded people at the National level, which in turn boosted my confidence and helped me strive to be the best while also teaching me the value of being a team player and a leader. The motto of 'Unity in Diversity' is still instilled in me. Today, as an officer of the Indian Army, I am United in my consciousness and Diverse in my capabilities to take on any task, however formidable it may seem. This resolve, has manifested in me, because of the firm foundation I had all those years ago in the parade ground of Christ College as an NCC cadet. Col R K Babu VSM March On... | NCC 2017

A word from the alumni NCC has been one of the major contributors to Indian Arm Forces since inception. The Unity and Discipline of the NCC has changed thousands of cadets from being regular students to chivalrous, courteous, honourable men and officers in the Indian Armed Forces. Training camps and various drills of NCC have motivated cadets to become responsible citizens of India. I was commissioned to the Indian Army in 2011. As a student of Christ College, I had the joy of being a cadet of 2/9 coy NCC. NCC has moulded, motivated and given the courage to transform me from a normal civilian to a good citizen and an officer in the Indian Army. I deeply cherish all my days in college and in NCC, which included various combined Annual Training Camps, Republic Day Camp 2004, saturday parades and ragadas. I sincerely thank 2/9 Coy NCC Christ University and my ANO. I wish all the cadets of 2/9 Coy NCC best of luck and a great future! Jai Hind! Maj Mohan Rajendran March On... | NCC 2017
