Foreword Message from Editorial Board The Editorial Board of Christ PU College - Evening is an opportunity for students to nurture their lingual skills and design abilities. It encourages them to feature their articles and art through different publications. This year, the board has overseen all the activities through online mode. Like every year, we have made advancements this year too. We are a group of students working with Ms. Shruthi S and Mr. Bonny Thomas. We have been fortunate and feel privileged to have received encouragement and support from our principal, Dr. Fr. Peter M V. The board released two editions of newsletter, ‘Xpressions’. We likewise presented another publication, ‘Exponere’ which is an accumulation of book reviews, movie reviews and sky is the limit from there. We are pleased with our work and appreciative for the opportunity that has helped us to develop and achieve new heights, both imaginatively and comprehensively and we would deliver equally good content throughout this year. We are proud to present this edition of the annual magazine, EPITOME for the academic year, 2020-2021. 01

Our Leading Light : Jesus Twelve year old Jesus sat in the midst of the teachers, both listening to them and asking them questions. He showed a profound understanding and amazed them by his answers. The threefold ministry of Jesus included preaching, healing and teaching. Jesus is proclaimed as a good teacher - a teacher whose parables were thought-provoking. Indeed, Jesus is an epitome of a student and teacher. Our Patron : St. Kuriakose Elias Chavara Blessed Chavara Kuriakose Elias is a light to the society in darkness. With education as his weapon, he battled to free the world from the chains of ignorance, discrimination and subjugation. His vision was revolutionized in the form of schools opened for all regardless of caste, creed and gender; printing presses to publish books; homes for the homeless; gender equality by encouraging women to work and enhance their family and society. He is a reformation personied. 02

Rector's Message The Editorial Board of ‘Epitome’ of Christ PU College – Evening has done it. The word, Epitome, means quintessential element or core part of a thing, event programme or performance. If you know the Epitome, then you know the concerned matter in its entirety, the whole spectrum of the reviewed object will unfold before you. That means, if you read this Epitome, you would denitely know the visions and missions, the programmes and the projects, the ideals and the attitudes, the objectives and the ambiance, in short, all those things for which Christ PU College-Evening stands and lives for. Education prepares the student to face the challenges of life and this has been made possible here through the joint efforts of all the stakeholders in Christ PU College. In the knowledge driven world, where there is no dearth of information, accumulation of knowledge is no more the game of the name in learning, but making sense of information. Critical thinking, communication, creativity and collaboration become competencies needed to survive and thrive in today’s emerging world or post covid world scenario. Christ PU College works with such a vision to equip the students in the unpredictable world where exibility, adaptability and speed become very important. 04

This year, the classroom became virtual; teachers equipped themselves with Educational Technology and various tools to ensure a smooth teaching and learning experience. The institution corroborated both the students and teachers to adapt to the new normal in every manner. I highly appreciate the agility Christ PU College - Evening faculty have shown in imparting knowledge and maintaining academic standards even during the pandemic. As you have become high tech, the technology shall not be a hindrance in being high touch, maintaining the personal rapport with the students and touching their hearts. “Educating your mind without educating your heart is no education at all,” said the ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle. The characteristic of Christ PU College is character, with a true blend of head and heart. That is why in the holistic education paradigm of Christ PU, emphasis is given on sense of ethics, moral uprightness and social sensitivity. Congratulations to the entire Christ PU family, especially Rev. Fr. Principal, members of staff, editors and contributors, for beautifully working out the project, Epitome. Wish all of you a safe and healthy time! May God Bless You! Dr. Fr. Paul Achandy CMI Chancellor, Christ University Rector, Dharmaram College. 05

ANNUAL REPORT 2020 -21 This academic year will remain etched in the memoirs for many reasons. Christ PU College embarked on its journey towards the next milestone after completing 15 successful years since inception in the year 2005. As every year, we had set holistically high targets for this academic year and we must say that we have achieved them. We, just as anybody around the world faced uncertainties because of the pandemic and yet managed to take the college onward in our academic journey. We had to ace up and think critically to tackle the existing situation while providing a continuity to teaching and learning practices. This was the time we switched to online mode to ensure continuity for both teachers and students in academics. We are at this juncture, where we recall the entire year and we take pride in mentioning that we left no stone unturned in bringing into action the academic plan for the year 2020-2021. It was not a mere journey of reaching the set targets; it was one that was ensured by our hard work in taking the institution’s name and fame a notch high. As it goes by practice, Holistic Education was ensured this year by introducing many online events, activities, webinars and celebrations. Training was provided to all faculty on various online apps and tools to make teaching through online mode smooth and easy. This year has been fruitful to all 481 students on roll and their parents along with all the faculty members. Imbibing and practicing the teachings from founder, St. Kuriakose Elias Chavara, a great visionary, reformer, and religious leader of the 19th century and seeking his blessings, I take great pleasure in presenting the Annual Report of Christ PU College for the academic year, 2020- 2021. ACADEMICS We marked the beginning of this academic year on May 04, 2020 with an online inauguration ceremony. Staff orientation began thereafter and training was held for all teachers on MS Teams, platform for online teaching. Online classes for II PUC students commenced from 18 May 2020. The response for online classes gradually turned satisfactory with an increase in the number of students attending online classes. The inauguration of 07

the 16th batch of I PUC students took place on 14 September 2019. The inaugural ceremony was held online and it commenced with the invocation song presented by the college choir, followed by the Principal’s address. The faculty at Christ PU College always pay attention to upscaling their skills and invest a considerable amount of time towards it. This academic year, under Faculty Development Program, teachers underwent training on Google Classroom, Google Forms, Microsoft Forms, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Powerpoint, OneNote, Dugga App, Wheebox, Edisapp, and trainings on NABET and teaching pedagogies. The library of Christ PU College consists of enormous print and electronic resources considering the requirements of students for their academic and intellectual growth and teachers for their professional growth. The college conducts formative and summative examinations. To ensure consistent learning, assignments are frequently given to the students. The teacher evaluates these assignments and they provide timely feedback. Each class is assigned to a teacher for a period of two years who acts as the mentor cum guide for the transformation of each individual into perfect human beings, as we aim for holistic development of our students. At Christ PU College, we strike a balance among academics, extra-curricular and co-curricular activities. Along with training students in co-curricular and extracurricular activities, we also encourage students to take part in intercollegiate fests. We also conduct remedial classes for students who need extra coaching and attention. Each teacher based on the performance of students in examinations and classroom participation identies them for these classes. 08

Value Added Programmes Value addition is ensured by conducting training programmes for students at Christ PU College. This helps the students to gain knowledge beyond textbooks. Most of the students walking out of school or college have little idea about how the world beyond their schools and colleges work. In order to bridge the gap in comprehension, we conduct training and workshops on Leadership and Peer Ambassadorship. Teachers and students extensively use Google Classroom. Each teacher uploads all the relevant reading and support materials required by the students with respect to academics. It also has extra reading and reference materials. Each student is provided with login credentials to Google classroom at the time of admission to Christ PU College. Holistic Education Values play a vital role in one’s life. As we are contributing in shaping this country’s youth, we believe that a dedicated value education system is the need of the hour. With this thought in mind, we at Christ PU College conduct Value Education sessions, which are held weekly. Topics related to an individual and society are included. The teachers ensure that these sessions are interactive and task based. Negativity experienced in the course of achieving aspirations Aspirations and visions for the future always bring about a pleasant and beautiful picture in our mind. But we all know for a fact that, while in the process of achieving the same, the hardships and struggle- demotivates us, kicks in self- doubt and also pushes us to a point where we forget our larger goals, and look for alternatives, back-ups and begin to divert. It is important to understand that obstacles and hurdles make us stronger, and negativity in the process will add on to the weight, while you’re on your climb. You need to consciously keep it simple and start living, negativity in the process is common and it is important for us to understand that, each step becomes tougher and brings its own challenges, but remaining positive, optimistic and determined are the only things that can lead us on our quest to achieve our aspirations. While the process may seem tiring and really not worth it, the view from above, the sense of accomplishment and satisfaction pays up for all the hardships, obstacles, hurdles and negativity faced in the past. “The more you feed your mind with positive thoughts, the more you can attract great things into your life.” ~Aryan Aggarwal 30
