Types of News Stories  Hard News – It is factual account and takes place within 24 hours.  Soft News – Less timely and not based on current news events.





A man and his dog are in a car. The car is outside. The man leaves the car. The dog stays there. The car is open. The air-conditioning is running. When the man comes back, he finds his dog. He also finds the koala in the car eating some leaves.

A wild elephant wandered into a small town in China. Authorities followed its every move. It left the town eventually, but the people will never forget its visit.

Suicide bombers killed at least 30 people in attacks in two Iraqi cities Monday, in the worst bloodshed since the country’s historic election. In the northern city of Mosul, 12 people were killed and four wounded when a suicide bomber targeted a crowd of police officers in a hospital. On Saturday, a suicide bomber had killed four US soldiers outside Najaf. At least 1,520 Americans soldiers have died in the war.

A magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck off the west coast of Canada, but there were no reports of major damage. Residents in parts of British Columbia were evacuated. “ It looks like the damage and the risk are at a very low level,” said Shirley Bond, British Columbia’s Minister. The National Weather Service issued a tsunami warning for coastal areas of British Columbia, southern Alaska and Hawaii.
